Su Yao and her companions trudged across the icy plains toward the safe house, the biting wind cutting into their skin like sharp blades. Su Yao's heart was filled with longing for the safe house, where she could find the supplies she had painstakingly collected, and a relatively warm shelter—a haven in this frigid apocalypse.
"Hang in there a little longer, we'll be back at the safe house soon. Then everyone can get some rest and use the supplies we've gathered to improve our strength." Su Yao encouraged Ling Yu and the cloaked figure, who nodded wearily but resolutely.
However, fate was unkind; they encountered an extremely violent polar tornado. The tornado, like a gigantic, spinning black dragon, swept in with overwhelming force, carrying ice, snow, and debris. Su Yao tried to use her spatial abilities to lead everyone away, but the tornado's area was simply too vast and its speed too great; there was no time to completely escape.
"Quick, find somewhere to hold yourselves!" Ling Yu shouted, plunging his ice sword deep into the ice, gripping it tightly with both hands, and simultaneously releasing his ice-based abilities to condense a thick ice wall around them, attempting to withstand the tornado's suction. The cloaked figure also quickly threw out talismans, forming golden rays that connected to the ice wall and their bodies, enhancing stability. Su Yao, behind them, used her spatial abilities to distort the surrounding space, reducing the tornado's impact.
Despite their best efforts, they were still swept up by the tornado. Inside, they were like withered leaves in the wind, tossed about relentlessly. Su Yao felt as if her body was being torn apart. She struggled to stay conscious, using her spatial abilities to protect Ling Yu and the cloaked figure from being struck by the surrounding ice, snow, and rocks.
After an unknown amount of time, the tornado finally tossed them out. Su Yao landed heavily on the ice, her whole body aching. She struggled to her feet and checked on Ling Yu and the cloaked figure. Fortunately, they were both alive, albeit with minor injuries.
"How is everyone? Can you keep going?" Su Yao asked with concern.
Ling Yu gritted his teeth: "No problem, this injury is nothing. We must get back to the safe house as soon as possible."
The cloaked man also stood up: "Yes, the safe house has medicine and a better resting environment. We can't collapse here."
They helped each other along and continued on. But their troubles were far from over. A pack of hungry polar wolves had their sights set on them. These wolves had been roaming the ice plains for a long time, drawn by the scent of blood on Su Yao and her companions. Their eyes gleamed with a fierce green light, and they growled softly as they slowly closed in.
Despite his injuries, Ling Yu gripped his ice sword tightly once more: "These guys really came at the worst possible time."
Su Yao quickly retrieved some fireballs she had collected earlier from her system space and threw them at the wolf pack. The fireballs exploded among the ice wolves, sending flames soaring into the sky and temporarily scaring away some of them. However, these ice wolves were extremely cunning and quickly surrounded them again.
The cloaked figure drew runes on the ice, chanting incantations. The runes emitted light, forming a barrier that temporarily blocked the ice wolves' attack. Taking advantage of this gap, Su Yao pondered a countermeasure. She discovered an ice cliff behind the ice wolf pack, so she used her spatial abilities to move huge blocks of ice from the cliff and smash them down on the ice wolves, killing and injuring many of them.
Taking advantage of the situation, Ling Yu launched his own attack. He fused his ice-type ability with the power of his lightning-type crystal core, transforming it into lightning-fast ice blades that shot towards the ice wolves. Under their attack, most of the ice wolves were killed or wounded, and the few remaining ones, seeing the situation was dire, slunk away.
After all that trouble, they were even more exhausted, but the safe house was now in sight. Looking at the outline of the safe house covered in ice and snow, Su Yao felt a surge of strength. They quickened their pace and finally arrived at the door of the safe house.
Su Yao opened the door, and a familiar scent rushed out. Everything inside was exactly as they had left it, simple yet incredibly welcoming. She immediately took out medicine from her system space to treat Ling Yu and the cloaked figure's wounds. Then, they all began to organize the supplies they had brought back, placing the Illusion Ice Crystal at the energy conversion device, preparing to further study its energy utilization methods.
Inside the safe house, they temporarily forgot the cold and danger outside, sitting together and planning for the future. Su Yao knew that this was just a small part of their survival in the extreme cold of the apocalypse, and many more challenges awaited them in the future. But as long as they were united and relied on the system and their individual abilities, they would surely be able to persevere in this icy wasteland, continuously expand their resource reserves, improve their strength, and face the unknown tomorrow.
