With the climate control device operating stably, the area around the safe house resembled a cool island in a scorching desert. But Su Yao was not satisfied with this. Through the system, she discovered a location that might contain valuable scientific data and rare resources—a former research hub, now a radiation-free zone.
"Although this place is dangerous, what's inside might give us a qualitative leap in our survival skills," Su Yao said to the group with a determined look in her eyes.
Equipped with radiation protection gear and weapons, the group set off for their destination in specially modified vehicles equipped with radiation shielding capabilities. Along the way, the land was cracked and barren, and the sky was stained an eerie dark red by radioactive dust, resembling an apocalyptic scene.
As they approached the edge of the radiation exclusion zone, various mutated creatures began to appear frequently. Huge, terrifying-looking radiation spiders crawled out of the roadside ruins; their exoskeletons were as hard as iron, their eyes gleamed with an eerie green light, and they sprayed spider silk imbued with intense radiation.
Ling Yu got out of the car first, brandishing his ice sword and unleashing his ice-based powers, instantly freezing several approaching spiders. But more spiders swarmed in from all directions, and Su Yao's father activated the vehicle's flamethrower, the high-temperature flames temporarily forcing the spider swarm back.
Su Yao used her spatial abilities to teleport the rubble of a distant abandoned building and smash it into the spider swarm, clearing a path for the group. Fighting their way forward, they finally entered the radiation-free zone.
Inside the restricted area, radiation levels were extremely high; even with protective gear, everyone felt discomfort. Su Yao activated the system's radiation monitoring function, guiding everyone towards the research center.
Suddenly, a huge radiation vortex appeared ahead, like a black hole that devoured everything, constantly releasing powerful suction and deadly radiation.
"This is a vortex formed by the accumulation of radiation energy, we can't get close!" Su Yao shouted.
She tried to use her spatial abilities to interfere with the vortex's energy, but the vortex's power was too great, and her abilities were like an ant trying to shake a tree.
“We need to find the energy source of the vortex and destroy it before we can pass through,” Ling Yu said.
Therefore, Su Yao used the system to scan and discovered that the energy source of the vortex was located deep underground, which was a huge crystal that had been mutated by radiation.
"I'll go down and take a look. You guys cover me from up here," Su Yao said.
Using her spatial abilities, she carved out a passage leading underground, then cautiously entered. The underground passage was filled with various radioactive slimes and mutated creature larvae. Su Yao dodged attacks as she approached the energy crystal.
When she finally reached the energy crystal, she found a powerful energy shield surrounding it. Su Yao tried to attack the shield with her spatial blade, but the shield only rippled and remained undamaged.
Just as Su Yao was racking her brains for a solution, her system prompted her that she could use the surrounding radiation energy to guide it to the weak point of the shield, thereby breaking the shield.
Following the system prompts, Su Yao began to guide the radiation energy. She moved her hands, activated her supernatural ability, gathered the surrounding radiation slime and energy, and then launched it towards a corner of the shield.
In a dazzling flash, the shield was successfully shattered. Without hesitation, Su Yao channeled her spatial abilities into the energy crystal, attempting to destroy it. Sensing the threat, the energy crystal launched a furious counterattack, releasing beams of intense radiation.
Su Yao gritted her teeth, enduring the radiation, and increased her power output. With her relentless efforts, the energy crystal finally gave way and exploded violently.
As the energy crystal exploded, the radiation vortex on the ground gradually dissipated. Su Yao crawled out of the underground passage, and everyone hurriedly surrounded her.
"I'm so glad you're alright!" Ling Yu said with concern.
“Let’s keep going, the research center is just ahead,” Su Yao said.
When they arrived at the research center, they found it severely damaged. However, in some corners, they still found valuable scientific documents documenting advanced technologies for survival in a high-temperature post-apocalyptic world and combating radiation. They also discovered rare medicines and materials that could be used to treat radiation damage and upgrade their equipment.
The group returned to the safe house with their spoils. Su Yao began studying the technological data, hoping to use it to further enhance their survival skills in the high-temperature apocalypse and better prepare for future challenges.
