Chapter 253 Scorching Heat

Su Yao led her team at breakneck speed, leaving behind a trail of apocalyptic devastation in their wake. The earth was scorched black, crisscrossed with cracks like a giant spider web stretching wildly into the distance. The air was thick with the acrid smell of burning, and the sweltering heat distorted everything in sight. Gale-force winds howled past, carrying scorching sand and dust that scraped against their heat-resistant suits like sharp blades.

One of the team members was gradually losing strength and began to stagger. Su Yao's eyes sharpened, and she quickly took out an energy potion from her spatial storage, tossing it to the team member: "Drink it, hang in there!" Her voice rang out through the communicator, cold and unwavering. In this life-or-death moment, she offered no extra tenderness or comfort, only a tenacious will to survive and a ruthless determination.

Finally, the outline of the safe house became faintly visible in the heat. Su Yao quickened her pace and rushed inside first. Her parents were already anxiously waiting at the door. Seeing Su Yao return, their faces showed a mixture of relief and worry.

"Quickly, activate the level two heat shield of the safe house!" Su Yao instructed her team members to assist while taking out special heat insulation materials from the space and distributing them to everyone so they could reinforce the weak areas inside the house. She knew that the ferocity of this heatwave far exceeded that of the past, and any negligence could lead to annihilation.

Su Yao went to the control panel, connected to the system, and checked the various data of the safe house. The data on the screen kept flashing, and the red high-temperature warning indicator was particularly glaring. The outside temperature had already exceeded 800 degrees Celsius and was still rising. Under the pressure of the high temperature, the safe house's energy core was under tremendous strain, emitting a low hum, like a giant beast that could not bear the weight.

"System, analyze the current energy consumption rate and estimate the remaining time that can be sustained," Su Yao calmly commanded.

"At the current rate of consumption, the energy core can only sustain the safe house for two days. If the high temperature continues to intensify, the time will be significantly shortened." The system's mechanical voice rang in Su Yao's mind, devoid of any emotion.

Su Yao bit her lip and turned to walk towards the storage room. She had stored a large number of energy crystals in the space, but using these crystals would mean losing an important safeguard in future crises. However, without using them, they simply wouldn't be able to survive the current high-temperature ordeal.

"First, use some energy crystals to replenish the energy core and stabilize the shield," Su Yao decided after careful consideration. She took out a crystal and carefully inserted it into the slot of the energy core. As the crystal was inserted, the light from the energy core gradually brightened, and the strength of the shield was slightly improved.

But the intense heat seemed to sense their resistance and intensified. The walls of the safe house began to scorch, and the temperature inside gradually rose. Despite the insulation and shields, everyone could still feel the sweltering heat. Sweat soaked through Su Yao's clothes, and her breathing became rapid.

“This can’t go on. We need to find a way to lower the outside temperature,” Su Yao said firmly. She activated the system again, searching the surrounding area for usable resources or environmental factors.

Suddenly, the system detected an underground cavern five kilometers away from the safe house. The cavern contained a large amount of groundwater and low-temperature minerals; if it could be guided to the vicinity of the safe house, it might be able to create a localized cooling zone.

Without hesitation, Su Yao gathered several of her team members who were physically fit: "Come with me to the cave. We need to bring the water and minerals from there." With that, she led her team into the scorching heat.

Along the way, the intense heat almost melted their will and bodies. Su Yao continuously channeled her supernatural abilities, creating a weak energy barrier in front of the team to resist the onslaught of the heatwave. The team members supported each other, struggling to advance towards the cave.

Upon finally arriving at the cave, Su Yao quickly directed her team to set up pipes to draw water and minerals. Using her supernatural abilities, she manipulated the water and minerals within the cave, guiding them slowly through the pipes towards the safe house.

However, at that moment, the high temperature triggered a sudden firestorm. The firestorm, like a huge, fiery red beast, roared and rushed towards them, instantly turning everything in its path to ashes.

"Quick, get deeper into the cave!" Su Yao shouted, leading her team to retreat into the cave. They hid behind a huge rock, watching helplessly as the firestorm raged at the cave entrance.

"Captain, what do we do now?" a team member asked anxiously.

Su Yao's eyes were cold and resolute as she observed the situation outside through the cracks in the rocks, pondering a countermeasure. "Once the firestorm passes, we'll continue drawing water. No matter what, we can't give up." Her tone was firm and resolute. In this scorching and desperate situation, her will was as strong as steel, never yielding. Because she knew that only by persevering could she protect everything she cherished in this apocalyptic world of extreme heat—her parents in the safe house, her teammates fighting alongside her, and that sliver of hope for survival.
