Chapter 31 Unlocking Spatial Abilities

With two days left until the apocalypse, the tense atmosphere weighed heavily on everyone's hearts. While the upgraded system abilities brought new hope to Su Yao's family, they also brought many unknown challenges.

Su Yao carefully studied the newly appeared system prompts within the space. It turned out that besides carrying people, the spatial ability had unlocked other amazing powers. One of them was the ability to adjust the flow of time within the space, but this function was currently extremely unstable and could potentially cause the space to collapse if not handled carefully. Another was a resource conversion function, capable of transforming low-value resources into more useful ones, but the conversion rate and types were strictly limited.

To better cope with the apocalypse, Su Yao decided to try the resource conversion function. She first took out some of her previously stockpiled, somewhat damaged, simple furniture and placed it in the designated conversion area of the space. Following the system prompts, she concentrated and activated the conversion. A flash of light appeared, and the dilapidated furniture gradually disappeared, replaced by a small pile of metal parts and some thick fabric. These newly generated resources were clearly more practical in the apocalypse, and could be used to repair weapons or craft protective gear.

However, this process consumed a great deal of Su Yao's mental energy, and she felt dizzy. But she knew that time was of the essence and there was no time to rest. Just then, a commotion suddenly came from outside the space. Her father looked through the space's observation function and found that a group of zombies, attracted by the bloody smell of the previous battle, were gathering towards the safe house. These zombies were of various shapes and sizes; some were missing limbs, and some were rotting, but their eyes gleamed with bloodlust, and they moved with extraordinary speed.

After discussing it with her father, Su Yao decided to use the space's ability to transport people to a safe place first, and then the two of them would go out to deal with the zombies. Although her mother was unwilling, she knew that this was the best solution at the moment. Su Yao carefully used the transport function to send her mother to a hidden shelter they had prepared beforehand on the edge of the city.

Afterwards, Su Yao and her father armed themselves, retrieved weapons from their spatial storage, and prepared to fight the zombies. Her father wielded a Tang sword, its blade gleaming coldly, while Su Yao carried a modified pistol and a short axe for close combat. As soon as they stepped out of the safe house, zombies swarmed in like a tide. Su Yao raised her hand and fired, the bullets accurately striking zombies in the head; each shot was accompanied by a zombie falling. But there were too many zombies, and they were quickly surrounded.

Father wielded his Tang sword, carving a bloody path through the horde of zombies. The sword was incredibly sharp, each swing severing limbs, but the zombies' claws and bites also inflicted wounds on Father's body. Su Yao, meanwhile, fired her pistol while using a short axe to fend off approaching zombies. The battle grew increasingly fierce, and they gradually became exhausted.

Just then, Su Yao suddenly remembered a defensive skill among her spatial abilities. She concentrated and tried to activate it. A transparent energy shield rose around them, and the zombies that crashed into it were repelled. However, this skill consumed a huge amount of energy, and Su Yao felt her mental strength rapidly declining.

Taking advantage of the brief respite, Dad and Su Yao retreated back to the safe house. They knew this couldn't continue. Su Yao re-entered the space, trying to find more usable resources or ways to utilize her supernatural abilities. She discovered a previously unnoticed corner within the space, where some ancient texts were stored. Su Yao picked up the texts and quickly flipped through them, hoping to find clues to resolve their current predicament. Meanwhile, Dad set up some simple traps at the entrance of the safe house, preparing to defend against the zombie attacks once again; they had to survive these crucial two days.
