Chapter 42 Superpower Evolution

After a fierce battle with the mutated vultures, Su Yao and her family realized that relying solely on their current strength would make survival in this increasingly brutal apocalypse increasingly difficult. They devoted more of their energy to studying the methods of cultivating mysterious powers found in ancient texts.

Su Yao spends a lot of time every day trying to guide her internal supernatural abilities according to the ancient texts. During one meditation session, she felt that her fire-based supernatural abilities seemed to have reached a new level. Previously, she could only simply manipulate flames for attack and defense, but now she could feel the energy in the flames was much more refined, as if every wisp of flame could obey her command.

She went to the open space outside the safe house and tried to use her newly acquired abilities. She moved her hands, and flames surged from her palms, no longer in their previous single burning form, but transforming into fire spirits of various shapes. These fire spirits leaped and darted across the open space, causing the temperature to rise sharply wherever they went, scorching the ground black.

Su Yao's family was overjoyed to see this miraculous scene. Her father excitedly said, "Yao Yao, your superpower has evolved! This may be a crucial turning point in our fight against the apocalypse." Su Yao nodded slightly; she knew this was just the beginning, and there was still much more potential waiting to be explored.

However, the system suddenly sent a new message: "A powerful energy fluctuation has been detected in the abandoned factory area on the outskirts of the city, which may be related to the mysterious source of power mentioned in ancient books. However, the area is occupied by a large number of mutated creatures and is extremely dangerous."

Looking at the message, Su Yao felt a strong urge to explore. She looked at her family and saw the same determination in their eyes. "Let's go, let's go take a look," Su Yao said.

The family prepared themselves and headed towards the abandoned factory on the outskirts of the city. Along the way, they encountered attacks from various mutated creatures. There were mutated rhinos as large as tanks, their skin as hard as steel, and each charge made the earth tremble; there were also mutated spiders that could spray venom, weaving huge webs on walls and buildings, trying to trap Su Yao and the others.

Using her evolved powers, Su Yao sent a fire spirit charging towards the mutated rhinoceros. The fire spirit danced nimbly around the rhinoceros, the intense heat gradually penetrating its hard hide, causing the rhinoceros to roar in pain. Meanwhile, Su Yao's brother, wielding an ancient longsword, engaged in close combat with the mutated spider. He skillfully dodged the spider's venomous spray, seeking opportunities to strike its vitals.

The parents provided support from the rear with defensive weapons. The mother controlled an energy shield to protect everyone from poison and other attacks, while the father used homemade energy crossbows to shoot at distant enemies.

After a fierce struggle, they finally approached the abandoned factory. But a thick fog enveloped the factory, emitting a pungent odor that made it difficult to breathe.

"Everyone be careful, there might be something wrong with this fog," Su Yao warned. They cautiously entered the fog, and as soon as they stepped into the factory grounds, they felt a powerful sense of oppression. The surrounding air seemed to thicken, and their movements became sluggish.

Suddenly, countless black tentacles emerged from the mist, rushing towards them. Su Yao hurriedly attacked the tentacles with her Fire Spirit, but the tentacles quickly regenerated after being severed.

"This won't do, we have to find the source of these tentacles," Su Yao shouted. The family stood back to back, fending off the tentacles' attacks while searching for clues in the mist.

In a corner of the factory, Su Yao discovered a massive energy source. This source was surrounded by strange devices, which flickered with eerie light. Su Yao guessed that this was the control center for the tentacles.

She focused her mind, gathering all the fire spirits together to form a massive vortex of flame. Then, she unleashed the vortex of flame towards the energy source and the surrounding devices. The flames collided with the devices, erupting in intense light and energy shockwaves.

Under the attack of the flames, the tentacles gradually ceased their assault, and the mist began to dissipate. Su Yao and her family seized the opportunity to approach the energy source, where they discovered that it seemed to contain an ancient and mysterious power, a power remarkably similar to the mysterious sources of power described in ancient texts.

Just as they were preparing to further investigate the energy source, heavy footsteps echoed from deep within the factory, as if a colossal monster was awakening. Su Yao and her family immediately tensed up. They didn't know what awaited them, but they had no way out; they could only prepare to face new challenges and continue exploring the path to survival and strength in this apocalyptic world.
