Chapter 45 Perilous Journey Home

After defeating the mutated creatures, Su Yao and her family embarked on their journey back to the safe house. Along the way, everyone remained vigilant; the fierce battle they had just experienced made them realize that danger lurked everywhere in the apocalypse.

As they walked, the system suddenly notified them: "Anomaly energy fluctuations detected ahead, suspected to be the appearance of ancient ruins. These may contain treasures that could greatly enhance one's strength, but also come with unknown risks." Su Yao looked at her parents and brother, seeing the same curiosity and determination in their eyes. "Let's go check it out," Su Yao said. Her family nodded, and they headed towards the direction of the energy fluctuations.

Before long, an ancient and mysterious ruin appeared before them. The ruin's gate was tall and imposing, covered with strange runes and patterns, exuding a mysterious aura. The gate was half-open, and a powerful attraction emanated from within, as if beckoning them to enter.

Su Yao was the first to step into the ruins. As soon as she entered, the surrounding environment changed. The previously dim space was instantly illuminated, and glowing gems embedded in the walls lit up a long passage. Various ancient statues were placed on both sides of the passage. These statues were lifelike, some holding weapons, and some in defensive postures, as if they were guarding something.

Following the passage, they arrived at a vast hall. In the center of the hall stood a circular stone platform, upon which rested a crystal ball radiating iridescent light. Intricate energy patterns surrounded the crystal ball, constantly flashing, seemingly an ancient seal.

"This crystal ball looks extraordinary; it might even help us take our abilities to the next level," Su Yao's brother said.

However, just as they approached the stone platform, the surrounding statues suddenly came to life. These statues transformed into powerful guardians, launching an attack on them. The guardians were agile and incredibly strong, wielding their weapons with tremendous force.

Su Yao immediately summoned a ghostly blue fire spirit, which charged towards the guardians. The flames clashed with the guardians, producing a series of booming sounds. However, the guardians seemed to have some resistance to the flames, and they continued to advance towards Su Yao and the others.

Su Yao's father took out a homemade energy bomb and threw it at the group of guardians. The bomb exploded, generating a powerful shockwave that temporarily repelled some of the guardians. Her mother then used an energy shield to protect her family from a sudden attack by the guardians.

Su Yao focused her mind, maximizing her supernatural power. She controlled the fire spirits to form a massive vortex of flames, trapping the guardians within. The vortex spun continuously, and the intense heat gradually affected the guardians, slowing their movements.

Seizing the opportunity, the elder brother charged towards the guardians, wielding an ancient longsword. He nimbly weaved among the guardians, using the sharpness of his sword to attack their joints, attempting to weaken their fighting ability.

With the family's tacit cooperation, they gradually gained the upper hand. But the guardians did not give up; they began to change tactics, forming a tight defensive formation to resist Su Yao and the others' attacks.

Su Yao realized this couldn't continue; she had to break the deadlock. Observing the guardians' formation, she discovered their energy seemed to originate from the crystal ball on the stone platform. If she could temporarily sever the energy connection between the crystal ball and the guardians, perhaps she could defeat them.

So, Su Yao rushed towards the stone platform. The guardians realized her intention and surrounded her. Seeing this, Su Yao's family did their best to hold off the guardians, buying Su Yao time.

Su Yao approached the stone platform, attempting to use her powers to disrupt the energy connection between the crystal ball and the guardian. As her hand touched the energy patterns around the crystal ball, a powerful surge of information flooded her mind. This information contained secrets about the ruins, the crystal ball, and the guardian.

It turns out that this ruin was built by an ancient civilization to seal a powerful dark force. The crystal ball was the key to the seal, and the guardians were tasked with protecting it from destruction. However, with the arrival of the apocalypse, the seal on the ruin was affected, causing the guardians to mistake Su Yao and her companions for destroyers.

After understanding everything, Su Yao decided to try communicating with the crystal ball to dispel the guardian's attack. She concentrated her mind, connected her consciousness with the crystal ball, and conveyed to it that she meant no harm.

Thanks to Su Yao's efforts, the light from the crystal ball gradually softened, and the guardians ceased their attacks. They transformed back into statues, and the hall returned to calm.

Su Yao and her family breathed a sigh of relief. They sat around the stone platform and began to study the crystal ball. This crystal ball not only contained powerful energy but also hid many secrets of ancient civilizations. They knew this was a rare opportunity; perhaps with the power of the crystal ball, they could better survive in the apocalypse, protect each other, and face more unknown challenges in the future.
