Chapter 47 A Solitary Journey

Su Yao looked at her parents, her eyes filled with determination: "Mom and Dad, it's too dangerous outside. From now on, you stay in the safe house, and I'll go out alone to collect supplies." Her parents looked worried and wanted to dissuade her, but they also knew that this was probably the best solution for the time being. Her father patted Su Yao's shoulder: "Daughter, you must be careful."

Su Yao nodded, turned and walked out of the safe house. As soon as she stepped outside, the frigid air felt like knives cutting her face. She tightened her cold-weather gear, which she had obtained from a museum and modified, but it could only barely keep her warm in this post-apocalyptic world.

She headed towards the city's former commercial district, where, according to the system's prompts, there might be some unexploited supply points. Along the way, Su Yao saw only desolation. The streets were covered in thick snow and ice, most of the roadside buildings were dilapidated, some even collapsed under the weight of the snow. The once-bustling billboards were now just fragments, swaying precariously in the cold wind.

As Su Yao crossed an intersection, she heard a low growl. She immediately became alert and hid behind a car that was mostly buried in snow and ice. A pack of mutated snow wolves darted out from the street corner; their fur was as hard as steel needles, gleaming coldly in the sunlight, and their eyes gleamed with ferocity. These snow wolves ran incredibly fast across the snow, seemingly searching for prey.

Su Yao held her breath, trying her best to remain undetected. But a snow wolf still caught her scent and ran towards her. Su Yao inwardly groaned; she didn't want to expose herself too soon, but now she had no choice. She took out a short knife she had obtained from a museum from her spatial storage. The knife was extremely sharp, and mysterious runes were engraved on its blade.

As the snow wolf pounced on her, Su Yao dodged to the side, simultaneously flashing her short knife at the wolf's hind leg. The knife sliced through the wolf's fur, leaving a deep wound. The snow wolf roared in pain and turned to pounce on Su Yao again. This time, Su Yao didn't dodge; she charged at the wolf, her short knife plunging precisely into its throat. The snow wolf struggled a few times before collapsing to the ground, motionless.

But the death of this snow wolf attracted the attention of the other snow wolves, who swarmed around Su Yao. Su Yao knew she couldn't fight them head-on; she needed to utilize her surroundings. She quickly climbed onto a nearby iceberg, formed from frozen water in the city during the apocalyptic cold. The snow wolves lingered at the foot of the iceberg, trying to find a path to climb.

Seizing the opportunity, Su Yao retrieved some stones she had collected earlier from her spatial storage and threw them at the snow wolf pack. The stones distracted the wolves, allowing her to slide down the other side of the iceberg and run away. The snow wolves, noticing Su Yao's escape, gave chase.

As Su Yao ran, she used her supernatural abilities to create small fire explosions behind her, slowing down the snow wolf. After running for a while, she arrived at an abandoned shopping mall. The mall's entrance was blocked by ice and snow, but Su Yao used her abilities to melt some of the ice and snow and slipped inside.

The mall was pitch black, so Su Yao turned on her portable flashlight. A pungent, putrid stench permeated the air, and several skeletal remains lay on the ground. She cautiously searched the mall; according to the system map, the underground warehouse likely contained a large quantity of food and supplies.

While searching for the entrance to the underground warehouse, Su Yao encountered some mutated rats. These rats were enormous, with teeth as sharp as saw blades. They darted out from every corner, pouncing on Su Yao. Su Yao brandished her short knife, engaging the rats in battle. Her movements were agile, each swing of her knife killing a rat, but there were simply too many of them, and they kept swarming towards her.

Su Yao imbued her supernatural power into the short sword, flames burning around it, making each swing incredibly powerful. After a fierce battle, she finally found the entrance to the underground warehouse. The entrance was blocked by some debris, which Su Yao cleared away with her power, opening the door to the underground warehouse.

When she entered the underground warehouse, she was stunned by what she saw. The warehouse was filled with all sorts of supplies, including sealed canned food, warm clothing, medical supplies, and more. Su Yao was overjoyed and quickly began to store these supplies into her spatial storage.

Just as she was gathering supplies, a strange sound came from deep within the warehouse. Su Yao stopped what she was doing and looked warily in the direction of the sound. She didn't know what awaited her, but she knew that no matter what, she had to bring these supplies back to the safe house so that her family could continue to survive in this frigid apocalypse. She gripped her short knife and walked towards the direction of the sound, preparing to face a new challenge.
