After returning to the safe house and resting briefly, Su Yao received another system notification. This time, the system pointed to an abandoned factory on the outskirts of the city. It was said that there was a batch of special energy crystals there that could provide more sustained power for various devices within the space, and that some materials suitable for building temporary shelters in extremely cold environments could also be found.
Su Yao didn't dare to delay. After quickly tidying herself up, she stepped back into the icy wilderness. Along the way, the cold wind howled, carrying snowflakes that stung her face like needles. She used her special ability to maintain a warm fire shield around her body to resist the bitter cold.
As she approached the abandoned factory, she sensed an eerie atmosphere. The snow surrounding the factory was an unnatural black, as if it had been contaminated. Su Yao cautiously approached, and as soon as she stepped into the factory grounds, she felt a powerful suction force coming from the ground. She quickly used her special ability to steady herself.
The factory interior was dimly lit, filled with dilapidated machinery and scattered parts. Su Yao walked cautiously; the system indicated the energy crystal was in the factory's basement. While searching for the basement entrance, she encountered a swarm of mutated ice spiders. These ice spiders were completely transparent, as clear as crystal, but their venom contained a deadly chill; a bite would freeze the blood.
Flames ignited in Su Yao's hands, which she swung towards the swarm of ice spiders. The flames hissed as they touched the spiders, sending them scattering in all directions. But they didn't give up; instead, they surged in from all sides, attempting to surround Su Yao. Su Yao calmly responded, utilizing a weapon within her spatial realm—a longsword imbued with lightning. Each swing unleashed a powerful electric current, scorching any ice spiders that approached.
After a fierce struggle, Su Yao finally found the entrance to the basement. The entrance was blocked by a huge iron plate covered in strange runes. Su Yao tried to attack the plate with her powers, but the flames had no effect. She carefully observed the runes and discovered that they seemed to be related to space and energy. Suddenly, she remembered seeing similar ancient runes mentioned in an ancient book she found in the museum. So she took out the book from her spatial storage and began to decipher it, referring to the descriptions within.
After spending considerable time, Su Yao finally found a solution. She touched the runes in a specific order, and the iron plate slowly rose. A strong energy fluctuation emanated from the basement. Upon entering, Su Yao saw energy crystals emitting a ghostly blue light. These crystals were embedded in a huge device, surrounded by materials emitting a soft glow—the very materials she was looking for to build the shelter.
Just as she was about to collect the crystals and materials, a deep roar echoed from the depths of the basement. Then, a gigantic ice bear slowly emerged. This ice bear was enormous, its ice armor as hard as steel, and its eyes flashed with a ferocious red light. Su Yao knew that this was a mutated creature guarding the energy crystals, and its strength was not to be underestimated.
The ice bear pounced on Su Yao, who quickly dodged to the side. Its paws slammed into the ground, creating a large crater. Su Yao dared not be careless; she first used her freezing ability to try and restrict the bear's movements. But the ice bear easily broke free of the ice and charged at her again. Su Yao picked up her longsword and engaged the ice bear in close combat. She used her speed and supernatural abilities to inflict wounds on the ice bear, but its strength was too great; each attack made Su Yao feel her blood surge.
In the fierce battle, Su Yao discovered the ice bear's weakness: its eyes. Seizing the opportunity, as the ice bear pounced again, she leaped high into the air and thrust her longsword towards its eye. The blade struck the ice bear's left eye accurately, and the bear roared in agony, wildly flailing its claws. Su Yao then circled behind the ice bear and, with all her might, plunged her longsword into the back of its neck. The ice bear struggled a few times before finally collapsing to the ground with a thud.
Panting heavily, Su Yao rested for a moment before beginning to collect the energy crystals and materials. As she placed the last crystal into her spatial storage, the basement began to shake violently, seemingly on the verge of collapse. Su Yao quickly ran towards the exit, managing to escape just before the basement completely crumbled.
After leaving the abandoned factory, Su Yao began her journey home. However, the weather suddenly worsened, and a blizzard struck. She struggled through the blizzard, her vision obstructed, relying solely on her memory and the system's guidance. Along the way, she encountered some mutated snow foxes driven mad by the blizzard. Su Yao was once again drawn into battle, but thanks to her rich experience and powerful abilities, she successfully repelled the snow foxes.
After a long trek, Su Yao finally returned to the safe house. With a tired but satisfied smile, she showed her family the newly acquired supplies. This haul added another layer of protection to their chances of survival in this cruel, frigid apocalypse.
