Chapter 35 Going Out to Find Supplies

Su Yao's family trudged through the snow towards the warehouse. The biting wind cut like a knife against their faces, and every step required immense effort.

Suddenly, Su Yao stopped in her tracks, sensing something amiss with the surrounding snowdrifts. Before she could warn them, several mutated snow wolves, entirely white, leaped out from beneath the snowdrifts. These wolves were a size larger than ordinary wolves, their eyes gleaming with a cold blue light. Their fur, like the finest white down, blended perfectly with the snow, making them almost unnoticeable without close inspection. The snow wolves bared their sharp fangs and growled softly, the sound echoing across the open snowfield, sending chills down one's spine.

Su Yao reacted swiftly, waving her hands to activate her fire-based power. A ghostly blue flame, like a serpent, lunged towards the snow wolves. However, the snow wolves were incredibly agile, leaping and dodging nimbly across the snow. The flames only scorched their fur, causing no real damage. One snow wolf seized its opportunity and pounced on Su Yao. Su Yao dodged to the side, simultaneously conjuring a flaming sword in her hand and slashing horizontally at the snow wolf. The snow wolf was cut by the flaming sword, letting out a painful howl, but this only further enraged them.

Father charged forward, brandishing his Tang sword, and faced a snow wolf head-on. The sword clashed with the wolf's claws, sparks flying. Father was strong, but the snow wolf was incredibly fast, constantly searching for an opening and nearly striking him several times. Mother provided support from behind with a crossbow bolt, which struck one of the snow wolves in the hind leg, slowing its movements.

Su Yao focused her mind, knowing she had to finish the fight quickly, otherwise expending too much energy in this icy wasteland would be extremely dangerous. She closed her eyes and communicated with the system, trying to find a more effective solution. The system suggested she could utilize the special properties of the space to raise the temperature of the flames to their maximum and then release them in an explosive manner. Following the system's guidance, Su Yao extracted special energy from the space to strengthen the flames.

She opened her eyes again, thrusting her hands forward. A massive, white-hot flame formed before her, distorting the surrounding air with intense heat. Su Yao shouted, "Go!" The flame hurtled towards the snow wolf pack like a burning meteor. The snow wolves sensed the deadly threat, but it was too late to escape. The flames instantly engulfed the pack; the wolves struggled and howled in the fire, quickly turning to ashes.

Su Yao and her family breathed a sigh of relief, but they knew this was just a small episode in the extreme cold of the apocalypse, and the danger was far from over. They continued their journey and finally arrived at the warehouse. The warehouse door was tightly shut, covered by thick ice and snow. Su Yao used her flames to melt the ice and snow, while her parents worked together to push the door open.

A musty, old smell permeated the warehouse, and the shelves were piled high with various supplies: boxes of canned goods, warm blankets, thick cotton coats, and some lighting equipment. The Su family was overjoyed and quickly began collecting the supplies, loading them onto the sled. Just then, Su Yao's system suddenly sounded an alarm, indicating that a powerful energy fluctuation was approaching from the depths of the warehouse, and they were about to face a new challenge. The Su family immediately stopped what they were doing and cautiously looked into the depths of the warehouse. The energy fluctuation grew stronger and stronger, as if an invisible hand was stirring the surrounding air, making the already cold warehouse even more eerie.

Su Yao clenched her fist, the fire-based supernatural power in her palm stirring restlessly, a ghostly blue flame flickering within. Her father, holding a Tang sword, assumed a defensive stance, his eyes fixed resolutely on the darkness. Her mother, meanwhile, held tightly to the sled, preparing to evacuate with supplies should the situation turn against them.

With a series of creaking sounds, like ice rubbing together, a gigantic ice crystal monster slowly appeared. It was over three meters tall, its entire body composed of sharp ice crystals that refracted a chilling light in the dim light. Its limbs were thick and powerful; with each step, it left deep icy tracks in the ground. A pair of eyes formed from concentrated blue energy coldly stared at Su Yao and her family.

"What is this?" Mom's voice trembled slightly.

"Whatever it is, we have to defeat it to get these supplies," Dad said in a low voice.

Su Yao took a deep breath and launched the first attack. Her hands moved swiftly, and the ghostly blue flames transformed into whips of fire, lashing towards the ice crystal monster. The moment the flames touched the ice crystals, a sizzling sound was heard, and large amounts of water vapor billowed out. But the ice crystal monster only trembled slightly; the areas struck by the flames quickly reformed.

Seizing the opportunity, Dad rushed forward, leaping high into the air, and slashed his Tang sword fiercely at the ice crystal monster's leg. The sword struck the ice crystal, sending up a spray of ice shards, but leaving only a shallow white mark on the monster's leg. The ice crystal monster swung its massive arm, sweeping it towards Dad. Dad quickly rolled backward, dodging the attack.

"Its weakness doesn't seem to be on the surface," Su Yao shouted. She communicated with the system again, and after scanning the ice crystal monster, the system prompted her that the monster's core was in its chest cavity, where an ice crystal heart formed by the convergence of special energy was located. Only by destroying it could the monster be eliminated.

Su Yao focused her mind, maximizing her fire-based abilities. Flames erupted around her, causing the surrounding temperature to rise rapidly. She charged towards the ice crystal monster, using the flames to create a high-temperature zone around it, attempting to weaken its ice crystal defenses. Sensing the threat, the ice crystal monster opened its maw and spewed out a stream of extremely cold air. Su Yao was thrown backward by the force of the airflow, but she regained her footing mid-air and continued charging forward.

Dad and Mom weren't idle either. They attacked the ice crystal monster from both sides, drawing its attention and creating opportunities for Su Yao. Dad kept slashing at the monster's arms with his Tang sword, which, while not causing serious damage, did annoy it. Mom, on the other hand, shot at the monster's eyes with a crossbow bolt, briefly impairing its vision after the bolt hit.

Taking advantage of the moment, Su Yao reached the ice crystal monster. She gathered all her fire power in her hands and thrust it forcefully into the monster's chest. The flames, like a ferocious beast, pierced through the outer defenses of the ice crystal, striking directly at its core.
