Chapter 286: Lone Eagle Recovery

As Shangguan Wan emerged from the space, carrying the lone eagle, she saw that the mutant snake had lost its former ferocity, now a pool of rotting flesh. It had been chopped to pieces, no longer resembling a snake. Raising her phoenix eyes, she spotted a dejected figure sitting on the ground not far away, head bowed. As if sensing her presence, he looked up, and their eyes met.

Shangguan Wan saw the worry in Han Lie's eyes, and with a tired face, she gave Han Lie a reassuring smile. "He's fine." Before she could finish her words, Shangguan Wan closed her eyes and fell straight to the ground. She didn't even have time to let go of the lone eagle in her hand. She fainted.

Han Lie will never forget Shangguan Wan's smile just now. She was obviously so tired, but she gave himself a knowing smile to comfort herself. Many years later, when he thought of this smile, it was still fresh in his memory, as if he had experienced it yesterday.

He knew what kind of mental journey he had gone through during this period. On the one hand, he was worried that the lone eagle would be infected and mutated, and on the other hand, he was worried that Shangguan Wan would be injured. However, they entered the space, and only Shangguan Wan could lead them in. At this time, he could only stay here and spend every second like a year. Every minute and every second was so torturous.

Han Lie finally breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Shangguan Wan and Gu Ying come out. When Shangguan Wan said Gu Ying was fine, Han Lie felt the haze in his heart dissipate. But when he saw Shangguan Wan faint, his heart was lifted again. He used all his strength to protect Shangguan Wan as she was about to fall to the ground.

He was shocked, thinking Shangguan Wan had been in serious trouble. He felt her pulse and found it was strong. Seeing the shadow under her eyes, Han Lie understood that she was tired. It was Shangguan Wan who was the most tired and the hardest working during this period. Han Lie caressed the purple under Shangguan Wan's eyes with caressing, then bent down and picked her up horizontally.

"It's not suitable for us to stay here tonight. We should find a safe place to stay, even if we have to walk at night. It's too unsafe here. Wanwan is very tired and needs a good rest. Guying is fine too. We just need to wait for him to wake up." Han Lie glanced around with his deep eyes. No one could tell whether there would be snakes attacking again at night.

"Yes," several people answered and started to act.

Han Lie held Shangguan Wan in his arms and rested in the back seat of the Hummer. Z drove, Dongfang Shuo sat in the passenger seat, and C sat in the second row. Cang Ying and his companions drove another military off-road vehicle. Gu Ying fell asleep in the back seat. In fact, he had been fine for a long time, but he hadn't woken up because of the severe blow from Shangguan Wan.

The car kept driving, and they finally arrived at an urban area before dark and stayed at a family's home in the area. The urban area was silent, with no zombies and no survivors.

Shangguan Wan slept for three days and three nights. During this time, Gu Ying woke up and found out that he was not infected with the virus and was not dead. He was just saved by Shangguan Wan. Moreover, Shangguan Wan had been in a coma for three days and three nights in order to save him. He originally wanted to go see her, but he stopped when he thought about it, not wanting to disturb her rest.

When Han Lie heard the news that Gu Ying had woken up, he came over and patted Gu Ying on the shoulder. This was a silent comfort between their military brothers.

"Is she okay?" Lone Eagle's voice became hoarse, dry, and bitter in an instant.

The lone eagle suddenly lowered his head and said nothing. No one knew what he was thinking.

"She's fine, just tired," Han Lie said lightly with a hint of worry on his face.

During the time Shangguan Wan was in a coma, Han Lie was in a low-pressure state, and he was so scared that he didn't dare to speak.

"When she wakes up, you can go see her," Han Lie said as he stretched out his hand and pinched Gu Ying's shoulder.

He probably understood Lone Eagle's pain, because he didn't want Shangguan Wan to get hurt, let alone be in a coma for three days. How could he be any better off?

"Hmm," the lone eagle murmured softly, and then fell silent again.

Han Lie stopped talking and turned to leave. When he reached the door, Han Lie said "thank you" without even turning his head.

Lone Eagle smiled bitterly. What right did he have to ask her to thank him, since she had saved him? Besides, he didn't want to accept Han Lie's thanks, because once he did, the distance between him and her would only grow further. Lone Eagle lowered his head and didn't answer Han Lie.

Han Lie went out without caring and stayed by Shangguan Wan's bed, giving her water.

On the morning of the fourth day, Shangguan Wan woke up early and looked at the handsome face beside her. He must have had a hard time these past few days and had lost a lot of weight. Shangguan Wan was distressed and wanted to touch him, but she was already tightly embraced by his warm arms. Han Lie whispered in Shangguan Wan's ear, "Wanwan, please don't do this again next time, okay? You don't know that I'm almost going crazy during this period."

Shangguan Wan nodded in agreement, but Han Lie knew she would still be resolute the next time she encountered such a problem. All he had to do was work harder to protect her.
