The base was built in the southwest corner of City A. Originally, the area was covered in trees, but they were cut down to build houses. So, the base is now surrounded by open space. When it was first built, the base occupied a considerable area, and now it is surrounded by walls and buildings.
Looking outside, everything was monotonous yellow, without even a tree. The vast desert was filled with heat waves, as if burning with flames. They all felt the heat and sweated profusely in an instant, but only zombies without body temperature were walking coldly around them.
Because the weather is too hot, it is like the ozone layer is broken, there are no reflection points, and the sun shines directly on the ground. The surface temperature rises, and the roots of the cut trees have no water supply and can only become dead wood, then burn, and finally turn into a desert.
After lowering the car window a bit, the stench of rotting zombies and a scorching heat wave hit me in the face. The heat, coupled with the smell of blood, attracted a large number of flies, which buzzed around each zombie.
Moreover, some zombies have the smell of blood on their faces from the bite wounds, which attracts flies. What's more, there are even flesh-colored black maggots crawling on the zombies' faces, wriggling on their faces. If they move a little, the maggots on their faces will fall off in clumps, and then when the zombies step on them to the ground, black mucus will pop out.
There was black slime on the zombies' shoes, and every step they took left a black footprint, just like splashed ink, or a painter's random spray painting on the street.
"Look at that zombie, isn't it a little different?" Shangguan Wan pointed at a very special zombie. He seemed to be here to make up the numbers, walking very slowly. When he saw the car, he came closer and faster, but he was very far away from the zombies. If it weren't for the blood all over his body, Shangguan Wan would have thought he was a human. Yes, it was a human. The more Shangguan Wan looked at his walking posture and movements, the more she felt that they were deliberately pretended.
"Let's go over and take a look." Han Lie stared at the man and turned the car towards him.
When the man's car approached him, his eyes lit up and he quickly ran towards Han Lie and the others. However, the sound of his running footsteps immediately alarmed the surrounding zombies, and all of them immediately surrounded him. The man was so frightened that he stood there motionless, but his hands were still shaking slightly.
Shangguan Wan understood that this was a living person pretending to be a zombie. No wonder his body was covered in blood, but the blood was black in color, and it looked like he had smeared it on his body.
Zombies couldn't see, and their only way of identifying food was through movement and smell. They could smell the scent of living people. He'd masked his own scent by doing this, and since his body was covered in zombie blood, the zombies simply circled around him, sniffing around him with their noses. Their black, bloodshot mouths opened, growling softly as if to intimidate. Anyone who couldn't stand it and ran away would have been crushed and bitten to death by now. Being surrounded at this point meant the only possibility of being dismembered was that each zombie biting one spot wouldn't be enough for all the other zombies to fill their teeth with.
"Save him." Shangguan Wan understood what he meant. Looking at him struggling to survive surrounded by zombies, Shangguan Wan felt that there was already a living person in front of her and it would be useless if she didn't save him.
Shangguan Wan smiled helplessly now, not knowing when she had become so kind and helpful. In fact, she understood that this was all because of Han Lie. Her heart was melting and she was accepting this reality.
Han Lie spun the Hummer, knocking the zombie in front of the bloody man to the left. Then he slammed on the brakes and the car stopped in a small empty space among the zombies.
Shangguan Wan, Han Lie, and Ye Chen immediately got out of the car. Shangguan Wan immediately gathered her supernatural powers in her hands and looked at the zombies surrounding her. She condensed ice and snow into ice knives and threw them out innumerable times. The crystal-clear ice knives, with a hint of cold wind, slashed across the bloody man's face, and the feeling of coldness on his face disappeared. His face was left with only a slight stinging sensation from the friction.
Shangguan Wan did this on purpose. She wanted to see what this person was going to do, how he came up with the idea of covering his own scent with blood. This was a good idea, but it wasn't suitable for when surrounded by zombies. After all, by the time you tried to wipe it off, the zombies would have already pounced on you.
