Han Lie was indeed feeling very depressed, and in a fit of rage, he wanted to quickly develop a drug to eliminate these things that made him hate him so much. As a result, he walked to the door of the laboratory.
The moment they entered, they were struck by a different scene. After the basement lab, this one was a world of difference. Why? The basement lab was not only filthy, but also damp. There were no ventilation, and the stench of experimental mice and zombies made it difficult to stay there. But this lab was truly a lab. Every instrument was brand new and in its proper place, ticking away from the occasional dripping sound. The clean cement floor was smooth, with traces of mopping. Several people in white coats were working at various positions, each one fully engaged in their beloved work. The clean environment, reeking of disinfectant, made them feel comfortable and efficient.
Old Xu and his grandson Xu Cheng were leaning over a microscope, observing something. They were discussing something from time to time, and Xu Cheng was even writing incomprehensible numbers on the paper with a pen and paper. Han Lie casually glanced at the paper and saw that they had recorded a lot of things.
They studied for a long time before realizing Han Lie was standing there, staring at them motionlessly. For researchers like them, once they got into their work, they were completely absorbed in it, so it was normal for them not to notice Han Lie's arrival. Han Lie didn't interrupt them, just waiting for someone to discover him. He was mainly worried that his voice would disrupt their thoughts.
"Commander Han, you're here." Xu Cheng saw his grandfather suddenly calling someone, then turned around and saw Han Lie standing at the door in camouflage, not knowing whether he should come in.
There's a glass door between them, but the scenes inside and outside are completely different. This research institute was built according to Mr. Xu's requirements. It needs to be disinfected before entering. Even the instruments were dismantled from the previous research institute. They can be used as soon as they are installed.
Han Lie nodded and pointed at himself to indicate that he could go in.
Xu Cheng stepped forward to help Han Lie disinfect his shoes, putting on shoe covers before walking in.
On the table are stacked various test tubes of different sizes, in red, yellow, blue and green, from low to high and from large to small, stacked in the test tube racks.
Another researcher used a dropper to drip something into a test tube, then placed it in a large instrument. He tapped it a few times, and then, with a "drop," a screen full of digital codes scrolled across the computer. Then, a string of red English letters appeared on the computer. The researcher then pulled out the test tube and tossed its contents into a nearby incinerator. Then, there was a crackling sound.
"The 26th experiment failed." Xu Cheng drew a cross on a string of numbers.
Han Lie knew that this was a failure, and it was the 26th failure. This matter was not so easy to figure out.
"Can I take a look?" Han Lie also wanted to know more about this thing, so he asked Mr. Xu.
After nodding, Mr. Xu told him some precautions, saying that many things could not be moved.
"You can look at it from here first. This is the virus problem I discovered early on, but I can't find the reason why it happened." Mr. Xu pointed to the microscope and told him how to look at it.
Han Lie lowered his head and placed his eyes on the binocular biological microscope, looking down at the scene inside. He saw something he had never seen before in action. A small gray ball covered in small thorns moved freely under the microscope.
"What is this?" Han Lie looked up at Mr. Xu.
"This is the blood molecule we collected from zombies. The first time we looked at it, we discovered this active factor, which we now call PVH. We've previously conducted experiments where we dropped human blood on it. PVH instantly devoured platelets and then absorbed both red and white blood cells. Its fusion is so intense that we've even tested it on plants. We've previously conducted experiments on mice, injecting a tiny bit of this virus into an intact mouse. While the mouse was calm, it could survive for about a minute, but when it was active, it only lasted five or six seconds. We observed the mouse and then washed its blood. When we studied it, there wasn't a single platelet in it. Even the blood was filled with PVH. PVH can damage the nuclei and peripheries of the brain."
"Our cerebral nuclei are responsible for basic daily processes such as breathing, heartbeat, movement, sleep, and balance. The limbic system is responsible for movement, emotion, memory, and body temperature. We've seen all of this in zombies." As Elder Xu explained, he pulled out a tube of bright red blood and dripped it onto the microscope stage. Han Lie saw with his own eyes that the gray ball quickly devoured the tiny molecules in the blood. So, this thing was causing this trouble.
"Is there anything that can prevent it from absorbing or devouring it?" Han Lie asked.
"Not yet." Old Xu sighed. If they had figured it out, they wouldn't have lost so much material.
