Chapter 67 You Won’t Abandon Me

Gu Yan got up and went to the kitchen to get a few pieces of wood, sawed them into the size he wanted, added a few support points under the bed, and reinforced the loose parts.

"Okay, try pushing it again."

Ye Jin tried pushing it, but the wooden bed didn't move at all. She gradually increased her strength, but there was still no sound.

"I'm not strong enough to push it. You try pushing it."

The two of them squatted on the ground and unknowingly came together. Gu Yan pushed hard a few times, and when he turned around, his nose brushed against Ye Jin's hair tucked behind her ear.

The two were so close that Gu Yan could smell her fragrance and Ye Jin could even hear his heartbeat.

Both of them squatted without moving until Ye Jin's legs became numb and he could not bear it anymore, so he stood up first.

"You have repaired the bed. It looks quite sturdy now."

"Well, but this bed is a bit old, and a lot of the wood is rotten. Even though it can be repaired and used, it will still make noises after a while."

"That's okay. I'll buy a big bed when I make some money."

Ye Jin said this, but in her heart she was thinking that when she made money she would bring her grandmother to the city to live a good life.

I will then find someone to renovate the old house so that when my grandma wants to come back one day she will have a place to stay.

In the afternoon, Gu Yan took a break from his busy schedule and sat in the kitchen to polish two boards. I don’t know what method he used, but the front end of the board was slightly bent, with a beautiful arc.

He picked out two suitable sticks and placed them in the corner. Ye Jin didn't know what he was up to, but although the thing he made was simple, it was quite interesting to look at.

"What did you do?"

Ye Jin squatted beside Gu Yan and asked curiously. Thinking of the embarrassment this morning, Gu Yan moved to the side without saying a word.

"It's a little gadget called a sled. You can step on it on snowy days and it won't easily sink into the snow."

"This is really interesting. Can you lend it to me to play with when you finish it?"

It just so happens that it comes in handy with the heavy snow these days. Once the snow stops in a few days, this thing will just be left in the corner gathering dust.

"Of course you can, but I'll have to verify it over the next couple of days. What if you use it inappropriately and fall flat on your face, and your grandmother holds me responsible?"

Gu Yan's words were ambiguous, and Ye Jin glared at him: "You are not serious in your words."

He could obviously use the word "settle the account", but he chose to use "take responsibility" instead, just to tease her on purpose!

Even after dinner, the snow showed no sign of stopping.

Many places in the village have no electricity, so it is a bit wasteful to use candles or kerosene lamps after dark, as the villagers are used to going to bed early.

There are four rooms in grandma's house. One is used to store miscellaneous items, one is for grandma to live in, one is left for Ye Jin, and the remaining room is usually not occupied so it is not cleaned.

Fortunately, Gu Yan was a man of good hands-on ability. He made some repairs himself and wiped the dust in the house. Although the quilt was very old, his grandmother often took it out to dry in good weather, so it did not get moldy. However, it still had a strange smell after being kept for a long time.

He was not a particular person, so he took a shower and went back to his room.

Ye Jin was very tired during the day and couldn't fall asleep at night, tossing and turning. She was wondering if there was an extra person in the next room, which affected her sleep.

She was counting sheep with her eyes closed when she heard a creaking sound from next door.

She couldn't count the sheep anymore, so she sat up from the bed, put her ear to the wall, and listened carefully to the movement next door.

If her calculations were correct, Gu Yan must have climbed out the window instead of sleeping at night.

The windows of the three rooms were lined up in a row. Ye Jin stared at her own window in the dark. She wanted to see whether Gu Yan was a gentleman or a villain.

She listened attentively, and heard the footsteps fade away. No one came to climb her window, and Ye Jin finally felt relieved.

She lay down again and got into the warm quilt. There was a hot water bottle in the quilt that her grandmother had heated up. It was so warm and comfortable.

Gu Yan carried a machete on his shoulder and walked into the snow with one foot deep and one foot shallow.

The snow has been particularly heavy these past two days, and now it has even reached above the knees. Every step I take feels like I am sinking into a quagmire, making it impossible to move forward.

Gu Yan tied the sled he had made during the day to his feet with a hemp rope. He tried sliding a few steps and found that he would not sink into the sled again.

He skated slowly at first, but then he skated faster and faster.

If someone goes out at this time, they will see a figure flash by like a ghost in the snowy night.

Gu Yan sledded up the mountain. There were not many proper roads on the mountain, and the road was bumpy, with stones and traps from time to time. Gu Yan didn't dare to slide anymore. He casually placed the skateboard under a tree and started hiking up the mountain.

The trees at the foot of the mountain have been cut down countless times by the villagers, and few of them can grow big. Only by going deep into the mountains can you find the wood you want.

There are many trees in the mountains. If a family wants to make furniture and needs to carry some branches back to use as firewood, the villagers will turn a blind eye and pretend not to see it.

Gu Yan climbed the mountain on the snow for more than an hour before finally arriving at the woods he often visited.

I have had the trees there harvested by the villagers, and many of them have grown into towering trees.

It's just that the terrain here is low, so when you stand at a distance, you can't see anything unusual about the trees here. At most, you will feel that these trees are too lush.

He swung the axe and chopped hard. In less than half an hour, he had chopped down a big tree. The trees here were all good, and he didn't want to pick and choose, so he just chopped down another one nearby.

After chopping down two trees in a row, Gu Yan felt that he had gotten into the mood, but he had seen too many trees to take back, so he had to give up.

He tied the trees with a hemp rope, tied one end of the rope around his waist and carried the other end on his shoulder.

The road down the mountain is very slippery and if a thin person goes down the mountain empty-handed, it is likely to fall sideways.

Gu Yan was very strong, and it took him a lot of effort to pull the two trees.

As dawn was about to break, Gu Yan finally dragged the two trees into the yard.

He was already tired after a whole day and now tired after a whole night. He quietly opened the window and almost fell asleep.

Gu Yan slept very soundly and did not wake up until 9 o'clock in the morning.

"Wake up, what did you do last night?"

Ye Jin glanced at the two big trees in the yard. In fact, Ye Jin had collected a lot of information as early as when Gu Yan came back at night.

"I went to the mountain to rob and cut down two trees. If the village cadres knew about this, would they invite me over for tea?"

Gu Yan was quite worried, but Ye Jin just chuckled.

"Drinking tea? Don't you have any at home? Why do you need to drink someone else's?"

Ye Jin was joking and Gu Yan laughed along.

"Anyway, I know that even if I make a mistake, you won't abandon me."
