The next day, Lu Jianguo and the others did not follow, but asked Gu Feng to take Gu Lei there, fearing that they would feel uncomfortable following Gu Lei. Gu Lei passed by the place where school supplies were placed and went in to take a look. He wanted to see if there was anything suitable as a gift.
Gu Lei had never given a gift before, and he looked for a long time but didn't know what to choose.
"Brother, what do you think I should give you? Xue Kai gave me a pen, I can't give him the same one, right?"
"Give him whatever you think is most important to him right now?"
"How about I give him a notebook and some study materials? We don't have any of them. We agreed to take the entrance exam for Kyoto University together."
"Sure? If that's the case, you can give him some information papers regularly."
"Okay, it's decided."
Finally, Gu Lei chose a black notebook, which contained study materials for the high school entrance exam. Gu Lei thought it would be great if Xue Kai was in the same grade as him, so he could send him some class notes. The learning here was in-depth, but he was a grade ahead of him.
After choosing the things, he went straight home. Gu Lei thought that he knew the way to school, so he just needed to go there to buy study materials and supplies. The other things could be done later, as they would not be needed for a while, so he did not go there in the afternoon.
"Second brother, are you leaving tomorrow?"
"I'll accompany you to register and leave after completing the formalities. I'm worried about your second sister-in-law staying at home."
Gu Lei was a little reluctant and said, "Okay."
"Don't think too much. Just treat this place as your home. If nothing unexpected happens, we will come here after the New Year."
Hearing this, Gu Lei perked up. It wasn't that this place was bad, it was too good. He felt uneasy living here, and he didn't know how long he would have to stay. "You guys are coming over after the New Year?"
"Is it stressful living here? Our plan is this: your second sister-in-law and brother Mu Fan are not here, so you should help take care of the family."
"This place is so nice. I don't know how long I'll have to live here. I feel like I'll be bothering Mother Lu for years, and I feel uncomfortable."
"We're all family, so why be so awkward? Now that more people love you, just be filial to them in the future."
"That seems to make sense. I don't know if my decision to come here was the right one. I'm not willing to drop out, but I really don't want to see that school again."
"Gu Lei, we will make many choices, some right and some wrong. Once we make a choice, we must work hard to stick to it. No one knows right or wrong until the end. We cannot back down because of anything."
"Brother, I'm just a little afraid that you'll live here alone after you leave. I'm afraid I won't be able to handle some relationships well, and I'm also afraid of embarrassing you and your sister-in-law."
"The Lu family isn't difficult to get along with. The fact that Fan Yao was able to live here before shows that they don't care about these things. Just treat it like home. Second brother believes in your character and won't do anything bad. Just be yourself. Your mission is to study. Everyone likes you if you're honest and sensible."
"Brother, I will study hard and spend more time with Mother Lu and the others."
"Yeah, it might be a little awkward for you to get used to leaving home for the first time, but it will get better over time. Don't hide yourself away and try to integrate into this family."
"Uh-huh."
He didn't know how much of what Gu Feng said, Gu Lei could understand. He agreed readily at first, but now he wanted to back out. His father-in-law and mother-in-law were very nice, but after all, they were not his own family, so Gu Lei felt uncomfortable staying with them.
Gu Lei basically listened to everything and was also thinking about how to fit in. He didn't always lock himself in the room. Sometimes he would go and chat with the aunt. After dinner in the evening, he didn't leave, but sat there and watched TV with them, and sometimes chatted for a few minutes.
Everyone was very happy that Gu Lei did this. At first, he seemed very restrained and always stayed in his room. But as long as he was willing to come out, they would become familiar with each other in a few days.
The next day, Lu Jianguo took them to the principal first. After completing the formalities, Gu Lei was assigned to Class 1, Grade 2. The head teacher of Class 1, Grade 2 looked serious and took Gu Lei to the class.
Lu Jianguo and Gu Feng also got up and left. Gu Feng knew that his father-in-law had to go to work today and no one would see him off, so he went to the station by himself.
When they arrived, the math teacher was teaching a class. The head teacher asked him to give a brief introduction, arranged the seats, and then left, so as not to delay other teachers' classes.
Gu Lei sat down and started listening to the class directly. Although he had done some preparation in advance, he still found it difficult to listen. He could barely keep up with the notes, but in fact he could not keep up with the pace at all. Gu Lei felt more stressed after listening to the class.
After class, the teacher asked him how he was doing and whether he could keep up. Gu Lei told the truth. The teacher comforted him that he was just not used to it yet, but it would get better in the future. He told her to go to his office and ask him if she had any questions, or ask the classmate next to her, who was the top student in the class.
After the teacher left, people in the class started talking about it. Many people said that he would be handsome when he grew up, which made him embarrassed. Some people also talked about his identity. His deskmate was a quiet girl who told him that if he didn't understand something, he could ask him. Gu Lei felt that his classmates were very enthusiastic.
The day passed like this. It cannot be said that he could not keep up, but it could only be said that he could barely make it. He still had to review when he got home, otherwise it would not work. In order to keep up, he had to preview in advance. He felt that he would be very busy at night. He wondered if it would be better after a while.
When she got home in the evening, Lu's mother asked with concern, "Gu Lei, how is school going? Are you adapting well?"
"Mother Lu, the school is good and the classmates are enthusiastic, but I can barely keep up with the teacher's lectures. I have to review them when I get home and prepare for the next day's class, otherwise I might not be able to keep up in class."
"It's always like this at the beginning. One reason is that the learning content is different, and the other is that the teacher's teaching method is different. But you will get used to it slowly."
"I'll get used to it soon."
"Don't put too much pressure on yourself. There's still a lot of time to go. Take it slow."
