Chapter 536 Exceptionally Brutal (2/2)

Seeing this, Raine instantly appeared beside Joan of Arc's bedside.

Joan of Arc stared at Renn's figure, then her eyes widened, "Ren... Renn!?"

Joan of Arc hid her hands under the covers, not wanting Renn to see her in such an unsightly state.

How could Renn not notice Joan's subtle movements? He frowned and removed Joan's hands.

Joan of Arc stubbornly strained: "No..."

But how could a weakened Joan of Arc possibly outmaneuver René?

After pulling Joan's hands out of the blanket, Renn gritted his teeth and stared at Joan's hideous hands.

The surrounding space creaked under the strain.

Rein learned about the so-called nine punishments from the memories of the knight captain.

The first punishment was to pierce the heart with all ten fingers.

First, the prisoner's magic or fighting spirit is sealed, then a special long needle is used to pierce through the fingers all the way to the palm.

The ten fingers are connected to the heart; the name itself tells you of the pain of this punishment.

It took all of Raine's strength to suppress his anger.

Raine took a deep breath, placed his right hand on Joan's wrist, and channeled magic into Joan's body. Once the seal was located, he used the power of the Book of Arts to break it.

He then wrapped Joan of Arc's hands with healing magic.

Joan of Arc's face regained some color after the seal was broken.

Raine sat on the bed, pulled Joan into his arms, and complained.

"Why don't you come to me? With me here, which of those old geezers would dare to make things difficult for you?!"

"That old bastard Granger didn't even stop me! Does he look down on me, Renn?!" Renn roared in a low voice.

Joan of Arc leaned against Renn's chest, feeling an unprecedented warmth, and shook her head.

"Don't blame His Holiness the Pope, he couldn't do anything about it."

"The church is jointly governed by the Presbyterian Church and the Pope, with the Presbyterian Church having many constraints on the Pope."

"And I have indeed broken the taboo of the church and am suffering these nine punishments... I have nothing to say."

"Raine, don't be angry. After I've endured these nine punishments and lost my position as a saintess, I can stay with you forever."

Joan of Arc smiled sweetly: "Then we can do whatever we want."

Although Joan of Arc knew that Raine was powerful, she was also aware of the strength of the Church of Light.

Therefore, she believed that even if Raine could take her away from the Church of Light, it would come at a great cost.

Even because of Raine, conflicts may arise between the Empire and the Church of Light.

Joan of Arc didn't want to cause any trouble for René because of her own affairs, so she still felt it would be best to accept the nine punishments before leaving with René.

Renn's eyes widened in disbelief. "What?! Keep going?!" he exclaimed.

"I disagree!"

"I haven't even settled accounts with those old bastards for torturing you yet, and you still want to continue?!"

"I was heartbroken to see you being tortured even before I came, and now that I'm here, you're still going to continue? What was the point of my trip?"

When Joan of Arc was about to say something, Raine waved his hand to interrupt her.

"Alright! Joan, you don't need to say anything more! Your most important task now is to focus on recovering from your injuries. Leave the rest to me." Renn's attitude was firm.

After saying that, Renn patted Joan of Arc on the shoulder, and Joan of Arc instantly disappeared into Renn's arms, obviously taken into the secret realm by Renn.

Raine got out of bed and clenched his fist, making a cracking sound.

He's simmering with rage, and he won't feel at ease if he doesn't unleash it!
