Chapter 2 Tribes

After Li Qing finished speaking, he left Li and the other two with a sentence, "Whether you two traitors go with the main force or do other things is your business. I have delivered the message. I need to report the whole matter to the chief now. I cannot accompany you any longer. Farewell."

"Chu, do you feel like Mai Zi has become a different person?" Li crossed her arms and watched Mai Zi's departing figure without getting annoyed. She turned to Chu and asked.

Chu nodded, resting his chin on his hand in confusion, and said, "I do have that feeling, and what he just said, I feel like there's some truth to it."

The two whispered amongst themselves, not noticing Yun walking past them. She reached them, gave them a disappointed look, and uttered two words: "Cowards!"

...

As Li Qing walked through the tribe, his emotions had stabilized somewhat. On the way to the cave where the chief lived, he carefully looked around the tribe and tried to process the memories in Mai Zi's brain.

In Mai Zi's memory, this was an era in which dinosaurs, ferocious beasts, and primitive humans coexisted. The food chain of the entire world, from smallest to largest, consisted of humans, dinosaurs, and the most terrifying ferocious beasts. In such an environment, humans spontaneously formed tribes to stick together for warmth.

But that was still not enough. Human strength was far too weak in the face of these behemoths. So people trained hard and set up a ranking system for themselves, from level one warrior to level ten warrior, from low to high. The higher the level, the stronger the power.

A Level 1 Warrior, which is Mai Zi's current level, is only slightly stronger than an ordinary primitive man in the entire power system. The conditions for achieving this are extremely simple: defeat three companions of similar strength with bare hands in a fight. Only by becoming a Level 1 Warrior or above can one truly gain a certain level of prestige in the tribe. This is why Li and Chu are so contemptuous of Mai Zi; they have the right to do so.

But none of these are the most important things, at least not right now!

Li Qing looked at the cave and walked in without hesitation. In most tribes, only the chief, the shaman, and a few elites could live in caves, while the rest had to sleep in the open. But in any case, people in this era had mastered the use of fire and weapons, which gave them at least some chance to survive.

Facing the firelight, Li Qing entered the cave and met the chief of the Red Flower Tribe, Dian, and the Jie shaman sitting cross-legged beside him, resting with his eyes closed.

"Maizi, what's wrong?" Dian asked, but before he could finish speaking, he exclaimed in surprise, "Maizi, you're badly injured!"

Li Qing nodded with a wry smile: "Chief, I came to see you because there's something I need to tell you."

People in this era did not have the custom of "burial". For their deceased companions and relatives, they simply threw them into the wild and practiced "sky burial", which, to put it simply, meant they did not deal with them.

This was naturally something that Li Qing, a modern person, found very unacceptable. Moreover, in Mai Zi's memory, several brave warriors from the tribes, including Yong, had taken several arrows for him to cover his escape. In other words, without them, there would be no Mai Zi, and no Li Qing as we know him today. Li Qing didn't want those people to lie dead in the wilderness; it was unfair to them.

The conversation also woke up the witch, whose deep eyes were fixed on Li Qing, as if he could see right through Li Qing's heart.

Dian sensed the seriousness in Li Qing's tone and said sternly, "Speak."

Li Qing took a deep breath, organized his thoughts, and then recounted Mai Zi's ordeal to Dian in its entirety, without any omissions.

Unlike other restless primitives, Dian was very calm. After hearing Li Qing's description, he did not immediately fly into a rage. Instead, he glanced at the shaman, and after the shaman nodded to him, indicating that what Li Qing said was probably true and he was not lying, he turned to look at Li Qing, his tone carrying a hint of doubt, "You mean, you want to bring them back?"

“Yes,” Li Qing said in a deep voice, “They were all warriors of the tribe, who died for the tribe. It is not fair to leave their bodies lying on the Moonstone.”

Dian looked at Jiewu again, and after Jiewu nodded to him, Dian said to Li Qing, "I understand what you mean, Maizi. I've never heard of the 'burial' you mentioned before, but... what you said makes some sense. Here's what we'll do: you go out first. Your injuries are too severe, and you need to rest and recover properly. You don't need to go to Moonstone."

"I'll ask Cang to help me apply herbal medicine for my injuries, but I'll go get the moonstone."

"wheat!"

“Chief, without them, I might already be a corpse!” Li Qing said. “I’m not the kind of person who’s heartless!”

Dian didn't say much, but looked deeply at Li Qing. Seeing Li Qing's firm expression, he nodded: "Alright. We'll gather and set off before noon! Jie Wu and I will go arrange the manpower now. You should get some rest."

Li Qing thanked him and walked out of the cave.

...

The "Cang" that Li Qing mentioned is the doctor in the Red Flower Tribe. In this era, there are no capsules or quick-acting hemostatic ointments. Nature is a natural medicine storehouse. From inconspicuous grasses to the branches and leaves of huge ferns, everything can be combined to make herbs.

Everything was neither as good nor as bad as he had imagined. He had been given a second chance at life, but there was no old man or any extraordinary talent at the beginning. Instead, if he wasn't careful at the start, he would lose his life again. Li Qing looked up at the sky.

There's no precise sense of time here, but people still know basic things like judging time by looking at the sun. After checking the sun's position, Li Qing judged that it was around eight in the morning, and there were still four hours until the sun reached its zenith, which is noon. Li Qing breathed a sigh of relief; there was still plenty of time. He didn't actually have much to do next. After finding Cang, he would return to his own "territory," get some rest, and wait for the sun to reach its zenith.

Just as Li Qing stepped out of the cave and was about to head towards the southernmost part of the tribe, where Cang was, Yun suddenly appeared out of nowhere and darted behind him.

Li Qing had a very good impression of her. She was extremely beautiful and had a very kind personality. If it weren't for her, Li Qing might have remained unconscious outside the tribe, and no one would know when she would be discovered.

"Wheat, have you spoken to the chief and the shaman?"

Yun said worriedly.

Li Qing nodded, then asked curiously, "What's wrong?"

Yun asked, "Will we... go to war with the Black Wind Tribe?"

Li Qing paused for a moment, then nodded and said, "Yes."

Will many, many people die?

Yes, it will.

Li Qing noticed that Yun's pace was slowing down behind him. He turned around, walked towards Yun, and patted Yun's head: "This is an era where the strong prey on the weak. If we don't take action, sooner or later we will be wiped out by other tribes."
