Chapter 21 Crossing the River

"Come and help, hurry up and save time!"

"This rattan should meet their requirements. Quick, show it to Li and ask if it's okay."

"No, it's not tough enough; it needs to be even tougher!"

"Isn't this good enough?"

"Nonsense, don't gamble with your lives. We need to be fast, of course, but we also need to focus on quality!"

...

About half an hour later, with the joint efforts of the Red Flower Tribe hunting team, a simple wooden raft was quickly completed.

Chu walked to the raft, tugged hard on a few logs to make sure they were securely tied, and then smiled with satisfaction: "Not bad, this is a good thing!"

Chu couldn't wait to throw the raft into the water and jump onto it.

His weight caused the raft to sink slightly, but fortunately, the impact was minimal, and after a while, the raft was still floating on the water.

"You guys come up quickly too."

Chu addressed the crowd.

The hunting party swarmed forward, all eager to head towards the riverbank.

"Wait a moment!"

Li Qing reminded him.

"The rafts can only carry a limited amount of weight. For safety reasons, it would be better to cross in several waves."

Gu dismissed it, saying, "Nonsense!"

“There’s no need for all that trouble,” said Gu Dao, “right, Li?”

Li pondered for a moment, though he wasn't entirely sure himself. "Let's just do as Mai Zi says."

Gu was taken aback, but since Li Du had said so, he couldn't say anything. He could only hum in response and jump onto the raft.

The hunting party jumped five or six more people onto the raft. This weight was already causing the raft to sink quite a bit. Chu, standing on it, felt it very clearly. He said to the few people on the riverbank who were eager to jump over, "Don't come any closer! If you come any closer, this thing will sink!"

"We'll go over first, and once we're all there, we'll have someone push the raft over here to you," Chu said to the remaining group who were waiting.

Then, using the suggested oars, he rowed the raft toward the opposite bank.

The Liangmeng River wasn't actually that big or wide, but the presence of the whale-like creature inside forced them to use this method, taking a safe and cautious approach. As the raft drifted towards the opposite bank, everyone in the hunting team stared wide-eyed, fearing that the raft would sink or that the whale-like creature would suddenly leap out and swallow the raft and its inhabitants whole. Only when the raft successfully reached the shore did everyone onlookers breathe a sigh of relief.

Li Qing's tense heart finally relaxed. This raft was very simple and could not compare with the rafts used by people in ancient times. He was really afraid that something unexpected might happen.

Chu, on the opposite bank, instructed the people on the raft to get off, and then maneuvered the raft to drift towards Li Qing's side.

"Bring up five more!"

Chu held up five fingers.

"I'll go first!"

Daohua excitedly jumped onto the raft.

The feeling of standing on the water thrilled Daohua. He exclaimed happily, "This is wonderful! Not only will we no longer have to worry about hunting, but we can also sit on this thing and float around and have some fun when we have nothing to do!"

"If you're not afraid of death, you can come here and have fun. We won't interfere," Chu said, slapping Daohua's shoulder hard. "And could you be a little gentler? This thing was so hard to build. If you break it, we'll have to build another one. I'll beat you to death!"

Chu's strength was far too great for Daohua. Daohua immediately gasped and grimaced, "No, who said I was going to play here..."

Chu ignored the rice flowers and said to the remaining people, "Anyone else want to come up? Hurry up!"

Li suddenly said, "Let Mai Zi and Da Hei go up first, then find two lighter ones to go up. I and the other level two soldiers will go up last."

Chu slapped his forehead, "I had forgotten if you hadn't mentioned it. Come on, Mai Zi, you and Da Hei go first!"

Li Qing didn't stand on ceremony. He jumped onto the raft, called out to Da Hei, and Da Hei barked and happily jumped onto the raft as well.

As soon as it jumped onto the raft, Dahei excitedly circled around the four corners of the raft, barking happily as it did so. Clearly, this experience was very novel to it.

"Big Black, stop fooling around!"

Li Qing called out to Da Hei.

Chu didn't blame Dahei. He picked two lighter ones, had them jump onto the raft, and then sailed the raft to the other side.

...

Under the supervision of Li and Chu, the hunting team was relatively orderly, and in no time, they had transported all the members of the hunting team to the other side.

"Phew, everyone's here," Chu counted the number of people to make sure no one was missing. "Alright, we need to get moving. If things go smoothly for the White Feather Tribe, they should be able to start hunting now. Since we've all arrived safely and unharmed, let's get moving!"

Chu dragged the raft ashore: "Brothers, you're tired and thirsty, but you also need to know that hunting is never an easy task! Let's leave this here as a marker. From now on, we're going to start fighting! Small rabbits, big wild boars... and all the edible meat and fruit in the forest, we'll do our best to take as much as we can!"

Speaking of thirst, Li Qing pursed his lips and looked at Liang Menghe.

He did want to drink the water from the Liangmeng River.

However, remembering how easily the whale-kun could devour a Brachiosaurus, he didn't have the guts to take such a big risk to drink it.

After all, life is more important.

Li Qing had no intention of courting death.
