Chapter 30 Night

As dusk approached.

Li Qing threw the firewood he had gathered on the ground and wiped his sweat.

He was determined to spend the night here, no matter what.

He needs rest.

Without sufficient physical strength, it would be impossible to get out of this unfamiliar jungle.

The first thing to do is to start a fire.

In Li Qing's memory, people of this era had already mastered the skill of using flint, that is, using a flint to start a fire. The old method of starting a fire by drilling wood had been abandoned by them.

The hunting party had no intention of spending the night in the jungle, and no one carried flint. Li Qing was even less likely to carry any. If he wanted to start a fire, he could only use a very classical method.

To make fire by rubbing sticks together.

While fire-making by friction is very inefficient, in primitive times, fire was one of the most useful and essential weapons to master.

The jungle, especially at night, is a time when various carnivores are frequently active, making it extremely dangerous.

If there were no flames at this time, it would undoubtedly become a prime target for hunters.

Fortunately, the materials were easy to find. Li Qing casually picked a handful of grass, piled them together, and shaped them into a bird's nest. He then placed a piece of wood on top of them, found a twig, aligned it with a point in the center of the wood, and began to rub the twig continuously with both hands.

If he had a sharp weapon by his side, the efficiency of the whole process would be greatly improved. However, Li Qing was captured by the Heavenly Eagle and thrown into this place. Apart from his life, he had nothing else. He could only use the friction between the two to slowly grind out a small hole.

This is a long and arduous task that will test one’s patience and perseverance. Fortunately, Li Qing has plenty of time. As long as he can light the fire before nightfall, a little wasted time is no big deal.

"I'm so hungry. I hope we can get a fire going soon," Li Qing said, already drooling as he imagined the taste of the grilled fish. "It's a pity there's no cumin or salt here. If there were, I could sprinkle some on when it's almost done grilling. Wouldn't that be delicious?"

Thinking about these things, Li Qing regained some strength, and his movements became faster and faster.

As the sky gradually darkened, wisps of smoke began to rise from the wood.

It's almost done!

Li Qing thought to himself with delight.

The wisp of smoke started as a tiny wisp, but quickly grew thicker and produced some small sparks.

Li Qing squatted down and gently blew a breath onto the wood.

Beneath the wood, Li Qing had prepared a kindling to help intensify the fire. As soon as this small flame appeared, it quickly ignited the kindling.

The fire gradually intensified, and the smoke grew thicker and rose higher. Seeing that his efforts had finally paid off, Li Qing didn't bother to praise himself. He quickly picked up a piece of firewood that he had prepared earlier and carefully threw it into the flames. Only after seeing that the fire had not weakened but had become slightly stronger did he feel relieved and throw in another piece.

Silently watching the flames grow stronger and stronger, Li Qing clenched his fists and exclaimed, "It's done!"

He sat cross-legged on the ground, breathed a sigh of relief, and the presence of flames truly reduced his pressure considerably.

Looking up at the sky, Li Qing murmured to himself, "I wonder if the hunting team will see this wisp of smoke. I hope nothing unexpected happens to them."

"Given the current situation, the chances of me meeting the hunting team are almost zero. The best thing to do is to rest and replenish my strength, and then try to return to the Red Flower Tribe. If Li and the others are lucky, we should be able to meet them in the tribe."

Li and Chu are two very intelligent people who prioritize the overall situation. Li Qing believes that if they escape the Black Wind Tribe's pursuit, they will definitely look for him first. If they can't find him, they certainly won't keep searching. Instead, they will send the prey they hunted back to the tribe to solve the tribe's food problem before dealing with his own.

Li Qing sighed, picked up a fish from the ground, and took a twig he had chosen earlier. He inserted the twig into the fish's mouth, piercing its entire body, and moved it towards the fire. He placed the twig a little further away from the flames, gently turning it while his eyes were fixed intently on the fire, his thoughts drifting away.

...

What pulled Li Qing back to reality from her myriad thoughts was the aroma emanating from the grilled fish.

Li Qing retrieved the branch; this kind of all-natural fish, if grilled until fully cooked, will lose its natural freshness.

Li Qing took a bite from the succulent parts of the grilled fish on both sides.

After taking a bite, Li Qing was still savoring the deliciousness of the fish when he heard a man's voice coming from behind the bushes behind him.

"...Escape...to die..."

Li Qing could only understand a few words of what he said; he couldn't understand the rest of the intonation at all. It seemed to be a language from another tribe that mixed in rapping sounds.

Who is it?!

Li Qing tensed up. He put down the branch and looked towards the spot where he had just been.

Without even thinking, it's obvious how this person found this place. It must have been the aroma emanating from the fish when I was grilling it that attracted him!

That was too careless!

Li Qing cursed himself inwardly. This was a completely unfamiliar area to him, and his act of grilling fish was simply courting death!

"……eat……"

Another voice came from behind. She sounded like a young girl. The sentence she just said was in the same language as the first person to speak. Li Qing could still only understand one word: "eat".

Even though Li Qing couldn't understand what they were saying, the words he could vaguely make out—"eat," the very first word "escape," and "die"—when put together, made Li Qing deeply feel that the other party had ill intentions.

Li Qing quickly glanced around, and finally cursed inwardly, "I was so busy making a fire and eating fish that I didn't find a suitable weapon. Now I'm in trouble. Without a weapon, and being only a level one warrior, what am I going to do if the opponent is even slightly stronger?"

What should we do now? Run or not?

If I don't run and fight to the death, and my opponent is stronger than me, I'll be digging my own grave. But if I don't run...

Li Qing's mind raced as he pondered his choice, but soon he stopped thinking, stood up, and looked into the darkness behind him.

because.

The two people who had just spoken never made a sound again, as if they had vanished into thin air.

Li Qing knew perfectly well that they were definitely hiding somewhere, looking for an opportunity to attack him.

His heart couldn't help but race.

Is it time for battle?
