Chapter 33 Questioning

Mang Hu caught the branch that Li Qing threw to him, "Are all the guys over there like you, all talk and no action, with no real skills?"

"Manghu, stop talking. We were wrong at first, but he didn't hold it against us and even grilled fish for us. He's a good person. How can you say such things about him!"

Li Qing smiled and comforted Yi, "Don't worry, I was just joking. Don't get agitated."

"Whether the other person is a good person or a bad person has nothing to do with whether I can survive," Li Qing said nonchalantly. "In this era, the most important thing is survival. If we were to eat a wild boar and keep thinking about what would happen to its offspring if we ate it, we would have starved to death long ago."

After lecturing on his principles, Li Qing suddenly chuckled and pointed at Mang Hu, who was looking at him with a childlike expression, engrossed in eating fish and not even glancing at him, saying, "But if I were you, I definitely wouldn't have revealed my whereabouts before I succeeded."

After hearing this, Mang Hu, chewing on the fish, waved his fist at Li Qing and mumbled, "Try saying that again!"

Li Qing laughed, "Alright, hurry up and eat your fish. I have a few more here. If you want some, just come over and each take one."

"How is it? Is it delicious?"

Li Qing asked.

Manghu seemed to be really hungry. He finished the whole fish in a few bites, tossed the branch to Li Qing, and clapped his hands, saying, "It's not as good as the roasted fish we have in our tribe."

"Oh? Your tribe also eats grilled fish?"

Li Qing said in surprise.

After all, in his memory, the Red Flower Tribe, the Black Wind Tribe, and the White Feather Tribe were still in the era of eating raw meat. He never expected that such an inconspicuous little tribe would have already started to popularize roasted food.

Manghu was surprised: "Is there anything strange about it? I said our tribe's grilled fish is delicious because we sprinkle a seasoning on it before grilling to enhance the flavor. Unlike your grilled fish, it tastes dry and has no flavor at all."

"Really... I think it tastes pretty good too," Li Qing said, looking down at the fire with some anticipation. "But hearing you say that makes me a little hungry. Can we try some at your tribe's?"

Mang Hu quickly refused, saying, "That won't do. Our tribe doesn't welcome outsiders."

"And another thing," Manghu said warily, "we especially do not welcome the Black Wind Tribe! Even if you give us a few grilled fish, we will never take you back to our tribe!"

Li Qing quickly waved his hand and said, "I'm not from the Black Wind Tribe, I'm from the Red Flower Tribe."

"Red Flower Tribe?" Manghu thought for a moment. "Is your chieftain named Dian?"

You know?

Mentioning the Black Wind Tribe, Mang Hu's tone was somewhat disdainful: "It's good that they're not from the Black Wind Tribe. They're just a bunch of jackals like the Mi Mountain Tribe, neither of them are any better! But you're doing just fine over there, so why did you come here? This place must be very far from your tribe."

"That's a long story."

Li Qing then added another grilled fish to his plate.

While grilling, Li Qing told Mang Hu about his experiences. However, he didn't mention the traitor, but just made up an excuse to brush it off.

When Mang Hu heard Li Qing and Chu chatting about being captured by the Heavenly Eagle, he burst into laughter without any attempt to hide it, making Yi, who was standing nearby, extremely embarrassed. She had to persuade Mang Hu several times before he finally stopped laughing.

Manghu clutched his stomach, his face full of amusement, and said, "Then why don't you go find your hunting team? What are you doing in our tribe? Do you want to join our tribe?"

“There’s no need for that,” Li Qing shrugged. “This place is completely unfamiliar to me. If I keep waiting like an idiot, I don’t know how long I’ll be waiting. I might as well wander around and maybe I’ll run into the hunting party on the way. If things don’t go well, I’ll just have to go back to the Red Flower Tribe. After all, the hunting party can’t possibly carry a wild boar around looking for me. Maybe they’ll search for a while and then go back to the tribe if they don’t find me.”

"Oh, but what does that have to do with you coming to our tribe?"

Although Mang Hu had acted recklessly and carelessly, he was still very vigilant when it came to important matters concerning the tribe.

Li Qing said with a grin, "Let's just go and take a look since we're on the way."

Yi pleaded on Li Qing's behalf, "Brother, there's no harm in taking him to the tribe. Anyway, if he's going back to the Red Flower Tribe, he'll pass through our tribe's route along the way, so we can just take him there for a look."

“Yi, can’t you speak any quieter? What if he heard everything you just said?” Manghu said anxiously and earnestly, “We don’t even know if he’s good or bad. Do you know what the consequences would be if he heard what you just said if he’s a bad person? If he’s even worse, our tribe might be wiped out!”

Yi was startled: "Surely such a thing can't be true?"

Mang Hu said in a serious tone, "Very likely! Have you ever thought about how awkward the name 'Li Qing' is? It's both 'Li Qing' and 'Mai Zi' (wheat). I've never heard of the Red Flower Tribe having a custom of giving people two names. Aren't you worried that there might be something else mixed in?"

Yi had never thought this far ahead. After hearing so much from Mang Hu, she was still somewhat bewildered. "No, really? Li Qing..."

Li Qing smiled and said, "Your brother is absolutely right."

As he spoke, he looked at Mang Hu and said, "You're not 'reckless' at all, you're quite clever. For you, it's really hard to tell whether I'm a good person or a bad person."

Yi shook her head, unable to believe it, and said, "No, impossible! If Li Qing were that kind of person, he wouldn't have given us fish to eat just now."

"Aren't you right, Mai Zi?" Yi turned to ask Li Qing.

“It’s just a fish! We won’t starve if we don’t eat it. Whether he gives us fish or not doesn’t matter,” Manghu said. “There’s food all around us. Even if this guy doesn’t give us fish, we’re not going to starve.”

Li Qing: "That's well said, but why are you trying to steal my fish?"

Manghu: "..."

Yi: "..."

Li Qing: "What's wrong?"

Mang Hu snorted and said quickly, "Yi hasn't eaten meat in a long time. I will definitely do everything I can to get her what she wants to eat."

"So you almost killed me just now?"

"It's all because you don't look like a good person!" Mang Hu said somewhat reluctantly. "For Yi's safety, this is the safest way!"

"Hey, hey, that's going too far! It's one thing for you to eat my fish, but to question my character like that!"
