Chapter 41 I'm naturally nervous - Miss Jiang Liu

When Jiang Segu woke up in the morning and saw that she was covered with a man's cloak, she knew that Gu Songhan had come again after she fell asleep.

A warm feeling welled up inside me, but I still reminded myself not to let myself be blinded by sweet words!

After eating the leftover half of the roast chicken from last night, Jiang Segu sat there listlessly all day!

Whether she cried out that she was thirsty or hungry, the old women outside remained unmoved.

No one paid her any attention, so she could only lie on the ground and try to recall the whole story in her mind over and over again, trying to see if she had forgotten anything.

Until Gu Songhan came again...

"Are you hungry? It's my fault. I didn't think things through and didn't bring you more food yesterday!"

Today I bought your favorite pastries, as well as your favorite scrambled eggs with toon leaves, and a plate of steamed bitter chrysanthemum. Since it's not good to eat anything too oily tonight, I also bought you a bowl of Huaiyang wontons!

As she spoke, she laid out the items one by one in front of Jiang Segu, finally taking out the crab shell pastry. "I heard from a colleague that there's a small restaurant called Liuweizhai in Beijing, so I went to check it out. The proprietress there is from Huizhou, so I figured her crab shell pastry wouldn't be too bad. I didn't know if you liked it, so I bought a few for you to try!"

Gu Songhan himself was unaware that his eyes were shining when he said "crab shell yellow".

Seeing this, Jiang Segu took a crab shell pastry and ate it first.

The crab shell pastry was crispy, savory, and slightly sweet in the aftertaste. It was indeed very delicious, even better than what she had eaten at her grandmother's house!

If I could make crab shell pastries like this to honor my grandmother, she would be happy to eat them, and perhaps her health would improve!

"How is it? Is it delicious?"

Jiang Segu nodded and took another one to eat.

Gu Songhan then took off the water pouch from his body.

He gasped as he touched the wound.

Jiang Segu took the water pouch and, noticing the fleeting look of pain on his face, quickly stood up. "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

Gu Songhan, who had been standing straight, suddenly hunched over slightly. He said he was fine, but his right hand was already on his waist.

Jiang Segu followed the movement and noticed that Gu Songhan's clothes at the waist were slightly different from the rest.

She lowered her head and touched it with her index finger; it was slightly hard and damp, and had a faint smell of blood.

As she got so close, Gu Songhan could smell the sweet fragrance of a young woman.

Because Jiang Segu lowered her head, Gu Songhan saw her slender, lotus-root-like neck, and her pearl earrings swayed playfully and alluringly in the air.

Gu Songhan's throat bobbed, and a touch of warmth appeared in his calm eyes.

"Are you injured?"

Jiang Segu's voice was clearly flustered.

Compared to her panic, Gu Songhan appeared much calmer. "It's nothing, just a minor injury!"

"How could you be alright? Your clothes are still damp; the wound must still be bleeding! You should go back quickly and have someone apply medicine to it!"

"It's alright! I've been wounded much more severely on the battlefield before, and I was still able to fight on the front lines!"

Gu Songhan spoke lightly, but his gaze remained fixed intently on Jiang Segu.

Jiang Segu had no idea what he was thinking. Hearing him so indifferent to his health, she was both angry and anxious. "That was before, on the ever-changing battlefield, when we were forced to do so. Now you're not in a hurry to kill the enemy. What could be more important than your health!"

"you……"

Gu Songhan blurted it out.

Jiang Segu looked up in surprise and met Gu Songhan's burning gaze.

His eyes were focused and tender.

Jiang Segu was startled, her cheeks flushed slightly. She subconsciously lowered her eyelashes, stood up straight with embarrassment, and took two steps back, distancing herself from Gu Songhan.

Seeing her shy yet aloof demeanor, Gu Songhan wished he could cut open his heart and place it in front of her, but he was afraid of scaring her, so he could only temporarily suppress his feelings.

“Miss Jiang, there’s no need to be so alarmed. What I mean is, Qiaolian said you haven’t had a drop of water all day. You’ve done me a favor, so naturally I’m worried about you, Miss Jiang!”

Besides, I know my injuries aren't life-threatening, so my first priority is to deliver food to Miss Jiang!

As Jiang Segu listened to his explanation, he felt a sense of inexplicable unease, which was quite unsettling, yet he didn't know what was bothering him!

"Young Master Gu, you should take care of your health!"

There was an implication in their words that they wanted to send them away.

"Besides delivering meals to Miss Jiang today, I have something else to tell you. I suspect that Ding Weichang's death is related to Wu Feitao!"

Why did he do that?

"Because of the Song family girl!"

"Song Yuhui!"

Jiang Segu immediately thought of Song Yuhui.

Only Song Yuhui had the cunning to set up such a scheme.

"Sixth Miss Jiang guessed correctly. On the day Second Miss Song entered Jingyue Nunnery, Wu Feitao went to see her, and then had people keep an eye on Sixth Miss Jiang's every move! Later, he followed Changping to Shunde..."

At this point, he looked apologetically at Jiang Segu, "It was all because I was too confident. I thought everything was settled and all that was left was to go through the transaction process, so I carelessly left Shunde. If I had stayed a little longer, they wouldn't have had a chance to take advantage of me!"

"How can this be your fault! Besides, you've already helped me a lot, there's no need to take the blame on yourself!"

"I've already sent people to Shunde to look for clues. Changping hasn't given any indication yet, and the Shunde government won't do anything to you for the time being..."

Gu Songhan's brows and eyes held a hint of worry.

This worry grew even heavier after learning that Wu Feitao was involved.

"It's possible that someone might put pressure on the Shunde government. Even if Changping doesn't identify me, someone might take me to Shunde for questioning because Changping is one of my people."

Once I leave Beijing and am on my way to Shunde, they will have the opportunity to attack me!
