Chapter Fifty-Eight: I've come to see you on important business.

Sitting in the carriage on the way back to the mansion, Qiaohe greeted Yunniang warmly, and finally asked Jiang Segu with some confusion, "Miss, what do you think that village girl is trying to do! She is Young Master Rong's fiancée, why is she thinking of seducing Young Master Gu!?"

Fortunately, Young Master Gu is a sensible man. If he had shown even the slightest favor to Yunniang today, this servant would have disowned him as her son-in-law!

Jiang Segu, who was drinking tea, suddenly spat out all the tea in his mouth!

Qiaohe was caught off guard by her rebuke, and with a mournful face, she cried, "Miss, what did I say wrong? Why are you punishing me like this!"

Jiang Segu quickly grabbed a handkerchief to wipe her face. "Who told you to talk nonsense! What son-in-law? If anyone else hears you say that, my reputation will be completely ruined!"

Qiaohe curled her lip; when had her daughter ever cared about her reputation!

Back then, she was so smitten with Young Master Liang that she practically wanted to pounce on him the moment she saw him. She even went to the old lady to beg for her hand in marriage to him, and told them in front of everyone that they should treat Young Master Liang with the same respect they would show to their future son-in-law!

But things are completely different when it comes to Young Master Gu!

Girls' thoughts are so hard to understand!

Her little brain isn't big enough!

Jiang Segu poked her forehead. "Stop thinking about nonsense. It seems you've been too idle lately. It's time to find you something to do!"

Qiaohe immediately stopped worrying about her son-in-law and her eyes sparkled. "Miss, if you have any questions, I'll definitely find out the latest and most accurate information for you!"

What son-in-law or not, that's for the young lady and the third mistress to consider. She's just a maid, all she needs to do is do what the young lady tells her to do!

Jiang Segu chuckled. "Grandmother's birthday is coming soon, can you embroider a forehead band for me?"

Qiaohe immediately looked distressed. "Miss, you know how good I am at embroidery. If you don't want to embroider yourself, just let Cailan do it for you. You know she's good at embroidery!"

"It's so good, it doesn't look like something I embroidered!"

Qiaohe was completely dejected. All the way, she tried her best to please Jiang Segu, hoping he would retract his decision...

***

Upon returning to the Marquis of Changping's residence, Jiang Segu did not go directly to his own courtyard, but instead went to Zhaotai Courtyard.

At this time of day, Old Madam Jiang would usually be taking a nap.

Therefore, Qiuxia was very surprised to see Jiang Segu arrive.

"Sixth Miss, is there something you need at this hour?"

"Qiuxia, where is my eldest sister now?"

"The young lady should be taking her afternoon nap."

Jiang Segu was somewhat dejected and was about to leave when Mu Ying, who was beside Jiang Chuhui, walked into the courtyard from outside with silk thread.

She bowed and greeted Jiang Segu.

Jiang Segu glanced at the silk threads, all of them in shades of blue-green suitable for men, and asked curiously, "Mu Ying, what are you embroidering with so much silk thread?"

Mu Ying gripped the silk thread tightly. "Replying to Sixth Miss, it was my young lady who couldn't sleep, so she sent me to buy silk thread without telling me what she wanted to embroider."

"Big sister didn't take a lunch break? Then I'll go check on her!"

Jiang Chuhui was surprised to see Jiang Segu rush in like a bull, and asked Mu Yuan to make tea for him.

"Big sister, I'm not thirsty. I've come to see you because I have something important to say!"

Seeing her serious expression, Jiang Chuhui gestured for her to sit down and talk.

"Big sister, don't you know how to make crab shell pastries? When do you have time to teach me?"

Jiang Chuhui smiled softly, "I'm always free. Let's see when you want to learn!"

Although she was smiling, her eyes were as calm as still water.

Having seen it a few times, Jiang Segu was still alarmed, but at least she didn't back down. She braced herself and took Jiang Chuhui's hand, "Big sister, let's go to the main kitchen now!"

Jiang Chuhui was surprised when Jiang Segu came to take her hand. She instinctively tried to shake him off, but Jiang Segu had already pulled her out of the house.

The servants in the main kitchen, having finished serving their masters' meals, lazily went to find a place to doze off, leaving only a maid to watch the stove.

The maidservant was at a loss when she saw her mistress. Jiang Segu noticed this and said gently, "What are you afraid of? We don't eat people!"

Then he urged Jiang Chuhui, "Big sister, what should we do first?"

"First, knead the dough and let it rise. Then, make the oil paste and prepare the filling. What flavor would you like? Sweet or braised pork with preserved mustard greens?"

"Since we're going to do it anyway, we might as well do a little of everything!"

Jiang Segu was in high spirits and asked Qiaohe to bring him the armbands...

"No, that's not how you knead dough, you have to knead it like this..."

"You put too much oil in that dough; it'll break and won't be able to hold the filling..."

"Look how I roll it and wrap the filling..."

"Yes, okay, just press it down gently with your hand and sprinkle on some sesame seeds..."

Under Jiang Chuhui's careful guidance, an hour later, Jiang Segu finally produced a plate of crab shell pastries with various shapes.

"And then what? Should we put it in the oven to bake?"

"Hmm, but the temperature inside the furnace is scorching hot. Let's call a servant to put it in the furnace!"

Jiang Segu shook her head, "Big sister, let me try it myself first."

"Sister, I don't know how to do this. You'll have to call the cook to teach you!"

He then told Mu Ying to go find the cook.

Soon, the cook arrived with Mu Ying.

Under the cook's guidance, the crab shell pastries were soon taken out of the oven one by one.

Instantly, the entire kitchen was filled with the aroma of crab shell pastry.

Jiang Segu looked at the golden, plump crab shells and, ignoring the heat, took a bite.

She ate the dish with braised pork belly and preserved mustard greens filling.
