Chapter Five: Grown into a Charming Young Woman

A short while later, Madam Hou returned to report.

"Miss, it was Caiju who drowned herself in the pond!"

Jiang Segu paused slightly as he rubbed his temples.

She didn't want Caiju's life!

In her previous life, although Caiju often praised Liang Shaojie, if she hadn't been so foolish, how could she have fallen for Liang Shaojie's tricks!

And Caiju died at the worst possible time!

Just yesterday, Zhao's mother was beaten to death, and today, people from her courtyard have jumped into the pond!

If I were to go through all the trouble of eliminating everyone in the courtyard again, I'm afraid I might alert them.

Rather than letting someone behind the scenes send in more spies, it's more advantageous for the enemy to be in the open while she remains in the shadows.

"Summon her parents here, and distribute funeral expenses according to the household rules!"

Mother Hou agreed and left.

The death of a maid in a wealthy family was not a big deal, so Caiju's death did not cause any ripples in the Marquis's mansion in Changping Prefecture.

After breakfast, the physician Zhang from the manor came to examine Jiang Segu's wounds as usual.

After examining her, Dr. Zhang said with a smile, "The injury on the young lady's head is no longer a serious problem. She will recover after resting for two more days."

Upon hearing this, Jiang Segu concealed a dark glint in his eyes by adjusting his sleeves and hand.

Well, it's nothing serious!

She was clearly poisoned, but Doctor Zhang didn't mention it at all.

Either Dr. Zhang's medical skills are mediocre, or he has been bribed!

Whether it's the former or the latter, she needs to leave the manor...

After three days of persistent pleading and cajoling, Jiang San's grandmother finally agreed to let her leave the mansion.

During these three days, Jiang Segu did not do nothing. Instead, he ordered his trusted people to go out and gather information in advance to facilitate today's actions.

However, when Jiang Segu saw his mother sitting in the carriage, his lips twitched.

She left the mansion intending to seek medical treatment discreetly, but with her mother accompanying her, how could she get there?

Jiang Segu sighed and got into the carriage.

Before the carriage had even left the alley, it collided with another carriage!

It was called a collision, but the two horses only brushed against each other before coming to a stop.

Jiang Segu used his fingers to lift the curtain slightly and look outside.

A man dressed in black rode up on horseback.

The man had striking features, with sharp eyebrows and bright eyes, but his menacing aura instilled fear in anyone who looked at him.

Who is this person?

Just as Jiang Segu's doubts began to arise, the man in black seemed to sense her gaze and looked at her sharply.

Jiang Segu was so frightened that he quickly lowered the curtain and sat upright in the carriage.

With just a quick glance, Gu Songhan couldn't be sure if the person sitting in the carriage was the same little girl from back then.

He glanced at the emblem of the Marquis of Changping's mansion on the carriage, dismounted, and apologized, "I am truly sorry. It was my driver who was impetuous and offended you, young lady. I hope you will forgive him!"

Grandma Jiang glanced at her daughter and said softly, "It's nothing, young master, you don't need to take it to heart!"

Hearing that there were other people in the carriage, Gu Songhan was slightly taken aback, then quickly said, "I didn't know there were other guests in the carriage. I'm so sorry for my rudeness! I'll have someone move the carriage aside so that you and the young lady can go first!"

"You are too polite, young master!"

Soon, the carriage began to move.

Jiang Segu lifted the curtain again, as if possessed.

Unexpectedly, the carriage drove right past Gu Songhan.

Their eyes met.

Beneath the dark curtains of the carriage, Jiang Segu's skin appeared even whiter, and beneath her cunning, bright eyes adorned a dark red beauty mark.

It's her!

Six years have passed, and that cute little girl has grown into a charming young woman.

The fierceness between Gu Songhan's brows vanished instantly, leaving only a gentle expression.

By a stroke of luck, he met her on his very first day back in the capital.

Caught red-handed again, Jiang Segu forced a nod of goodwill towards Gu Songhan, suppressing her embarrassment, before gracefully lowering the curtain...

The carriage drove further and further away, and soon disappeared from Gu Songhan's sight.

At this moment, the impetuous coachman joked, "General Gu, the young lady has already gone far away, what are you still standing here staring at!"

Gu Songhan glanced coldly at Xu Chengyang, who was dressed as a coachman, and said, "You have overstepped your bounds. You are to be punished with twenty strokes of the military rod!"

"Heaven and earth bear witness, I was helping you! Otherwise, why would that girl lift the curtain to see you?! Aren't you afraid that she'll be heartbroken if she finds out about your ungrateful behavior?!"

Gu Songhan was too lazy to argue with him. "You go and have someone settle the luggage."

Having said that, he smirked slightly, then led his horse and chased after the beauty...

Jiang Segu had already forgotten the little incident from earlier and was now preoccupied with figuring out how to act under his mother's watchful eye.

Unexpectedly, as soon as they arrived at Yongle Street, Grandma Jiang stopped the car.

"Azi, your mother knows you've grown up and have many of your own ideas, but please don't be reckless in anything you do outside! Also..."

Jiang Segu looked at her mother with eyes full of joy and repeatedly assured her, "Mother, don't worry! Azi will definitely not cause any trouble for the Marquis's mansion, nor will she cause you any worry!"

"Alright, stop talking nonsense! Your mother hasn't finished speaking yet! Also, the carriage is for you to use, and Juanniang will come with you. If you get tired of shopping, go to Zhenbaozhai and wait for your mother."

Zhenbaozhai is a shop under the name of Jiang Sannainai.

"Okay!" Jiang Segu happily agreed, then asked, "Mother, where are you going?"

Grandma Jiang lowered her eyes and said softly, "Mother will go buy some writing brushes and ink for your brother, and while she's at it, check on the business of a few shops!"

And so, Jiang Segu led the group into Yongle Street, the most bustling street in the capital, in a carriage.

Upon arriving at the teahouse that Jiang Segu frequented on Yongle Street, she excused herself by saying it was too crowded and only led Juan Niang and her maid Qiao Lian inside.
