Chapter Seventy-One: Shaking Head in Refusal

Jiang Segu arrived at Sanshetang. The sky was overcast, and Mama Hou was waiting at the door.

Upon seeing her arrive, Madam Hou immediately knelt down.

Jiang Segu stepped forward to support her and asked, "Where's Qiaohe? Where...where is she hurt?"

When Jiang Segu asked this question, his hand trembled involuntarily.

She was afraid to hear the same words as in her previous life.

"Replying to your question, Miss, Qiaohe was hit on the head by a heavy object, which caused her to lose consciousness. There are no other injuries."

Jiang Segu, who had been on tenterhooks the whole way, finally felt relieved.

"Take me to see this!"

When Jiang Segu saw with his own eyes that Qiaohe was unharmed and not as disheveled as in his previous life, most of the depression in his heart dissipated!

"Doctor, when will Qiaohe wake up?"

"The doctor said he couldn't be sure, only that it was fortunate that it was discovered early, otherwise he might not have survived."

Jiang Segu felt a pang of sadness upon hearing this; she had almost lost Qiaohe again.

She swallowed the bitterness in her throat and asked her mother, "Where did you find Qiaohe?"

“Huangmei Lane…” Madam Hou replied subconsciously, “This old servant was ordered by the young lady to find Chang’an. A peddler told me that he had seen Chang’an near Huangmei Lane, so I thought I would go to Huangmei Lane to take a look. I didn’t expect to find Qiaohe who had fainted there…”

Although Jiang Segu was a native of the capital, she was also a young lady from a secluded family and didn't know much about who lived in the various alleys of Jiangzhong.

Madam Hou's expression changed, and she hesitated before saying, "Huangmei Lane is... is full of brothels..."

What is "Xiang Gong Tang"?

"That's...that's the place where you look for male prostitutes!" Old Madam Hou's face was so red it was almost bleeding. Afraid that Jiang Segu would continue to ask questions, she hurriedly knelt down and begged for forgiveness, saying, "This old servant is incompetent and has not yet found Chang'an. Please punish me, young lady."

"Mom, please get up. I was just in a hurry today, that's why I treated you so rudely. Please don't hold it against me! I'll ask someone to find Chang'an myself, so don't worry. Just stay here and take care of Qiaohe!"

Madam Hou breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that it was better not to return to the Hou family mansion now, to avoid getting caught up in that unknown vortex...

Because he had agreed to meet Qiaolian at Sanshetang, Jiang Segu waited there.

Not long after, the medicine boy from the Third Hall brought Gu Songhan over.

"Qiaolian told me you were here..." Gu Songhan explained, then asked, "Do you need me to help you with Shaoyao's situation?"

Jiang Segu did not deny that she was very tempted after hearing it.

She really wanted to kill the peony to eliminate any future trouble!

Killing the peony might not solve anything at all, and could even bring about unknown troubles.

Besides, this is her family matter, and there's no reason for Gu Songhan to have the blood of that kind of person on his hands!

"Need not!"

Hearing Jiang Segu's rejection, Gu Songhan felt somewhat disappointed.

"Is there anything I can do to help now?"

"Could you please look for Chang'an? He's gone missing!"

Gu Songhan agreed and then asked about Qiaohe's condition.

Jiang Segu relayed what Hou's mother had said.

Gu Songhan suggested, "How about I go and fetch Uncle Li so Qiaohe can take a look?"

Seeing Jiang Segu's puzzled expression, he explained, "Uncle Li is the doctor who treated Aunt Lan. He used to be a military doctor in the army. It's common for people to be hit in the head on the battlefield, so he must have a way to treat it!"

Thus, the old military doctor Li Changshan was once again carried by Gu Songhan, and they once again leaped across the rooftops of the capital.

Seeing his displeasure, Jiang Segu quickly stepped forward and bowed deeply, "Thank you for coming all this way to examine Qiaohe, sir! I am very grateful!"

Even if Li Changshan was furious, he couldn't say anything more in front of Jiang Segu.

He stepped forward to take Qiaohe's pulse, then stopped after a short while. He then urged Gu Songhan and Jiang Segu to leave, saying he was going to administer acupuncture.

About 15 minutes later, Li Changshan came out and said that Qiaohe had woken up!

Jiang Segu ran happily into the house and saw Qiaohe looking at her with her eyes open. She was so happy that she burst into tears and thanked Li Changshan repeatedly.

Qiaohe hurriedly called out to her mistress, "That doctor is suspicious! I saw with my own eyes someone give him a packet of silver and tell him that they would use him again in the future, and to tell him to be careful! Later, I tried to follow the person who gave the money, but before I got very far, I was knocked unconscious from behind!"

"I understand. You should focus on recovering and not think about these things anymore!"

After offering a few words of comfort, Jiang Segu asked Li Changshan whether Qiaohe's body was suitable for moving and what precautions she should take in the future.

Li Changshan answered them one by one.

After Jiang Segu learned that he could move, he had Mama Hou take Qiaohe back to the mansion by carriage.

She then instructed the medicine boy at the Third Hall that if any maidservants came looking for her, he should tell her to go to Yongxiang East Alley to find her. Only then did she go to Yongxiang East Alley with Gu Songhan and Li Changshan.

Upon meeting Aunt Lan, Jiang Segu once again asked Aunt Lan for her help.

Aunt Lan's expression shifted, but remembering that she was also involved, she still shook her head and refused...

Jiang Segu's bright eyes were even darker and more intense than when he had been rejected each time before, as if they would never light up again.

Gu Songhan stood aside, feeling very uncomfortable, and his gaze towards Aunt Lan was so cold it was almost bone-chilling.

Aunt Lan's heart, which had been in deep meditation, trembled slightly.

This man's gaze was far more piercing than that of the nobles in the palace.

Unfortunately... he was just a deputy commander of the military corps...

As Aunt Lan was thinking, Gu Songhan spoke up, "Sixth Miss Jiang, please go out for a while. I'd like to have a private chat with Aunt Lan."

Aunt Lan was curious about what Gu Songhan, who rarely came to visit, wanted to talk to her alone.

Gu Songhan didn't mince words and directly told what he knew.
