Shen Qingqing went downstairs and went home with her parents.
She was following Li Xunli around happily, thinking of asking her mother if she could go with her on the weekend.
Before she could even speak, she suddenly remembered that she had promised to go to Chen Man's birthday party on Sunday afternoon. It was Chen Man's birthday, and her uncle doted on her so much, he couldn't possibly not be there.
Since her uncle is here, her father has to make sure he gets a good impression in front of the new boss!
With that thought in mind, Shen Qingqing immediately turned around and followed behind her father, asking expectantly, "Dad, could you take me to Chen Man's supermarket at 2:30 pm on Sunday?"
Shen Rongzhou was carrying Shen Yangyang towards the sisters' room when he heard Shen Qingqing's words and turned back to ask her, "What are you going to the supermarket for?"
Shen Qingqing honestly replied, "Chen Man is having her birthday. She's your new boss's niece. She invited me to her house for her birthday. We agreed to meet at the supermarket, and she'll take me there."
“Okay, I’ll let my employer know then. I’ll go to class later.” Shen Rongzhou agreed without much thought.
Shen Qingqing cried out in her heart.
She specifically reminded him that it was her new employer's niece's birthday, and her father didn't even offer a single gesture?!
"They've invited you to their birthday party, have you decided what gift to buy?" Li Xunli asked as she came out after settling the sleeping Shen Hong.
Shen Qingqing's eyes lit up as she looked at her mother. Her mother was the most reliable one, knowing to build a good relationship with the new employer!
"This is the first friend you made in elementary school, and she's also the niece of your dad's new employer. Even though we're young, we need to know how to interact with others."
Listening to what Li Xunli said, Shen Qingqing nodded vigorously, "Yes, Mom, you're right! So what gift do you think I should give her?"
Li Xunli pondered for a while, then turned around and went back to their room. A short while later, she came out carrying a wooden box.
Shen Qingqing asked curiously, "What is this?"
Li Xunli carefully unlocked the wooden box, lifted the wooden lid, and revealed the contents inside.
"Wow--"
Shen Qingqing stared in surprise as she looked into the wooden box and exclaimed in astonishment.
It was a box of twelve ceramic figurines, along with some simple kitchen utensils.
The twelve ceramic figures are all dressed in red, yet each one is different, and it is clear that they represent a large family.
"Mom, where did this come from? I've never seen this before!"
Seeing Shen Qingqing's silly, love-struck expression, Li Xunli chuckled, "Of course you haven't seen this before. Your mother made this with your maternal grandfather when I was ten years old!"
Shen Qingqing looked at her mother in disbelief.
What?! Her mom can make ceramics?!
Chaozhou ceramics?!
Chaozhou ceramics boasts the "world's best"?!
Why didn't she know about this in her past life?!
Shen Qingqing's shocked expression amused Li Xunli.
"Why are you looking so silly? It's normal that you don't know. The Li family has been in the ceramics business for generations, but they mainly made everyday porcelain. Your mother's maternal grandmother had six daughters. The family tradition was to pass the business down to sons, not daughters. After your maternal grandmother and grandfather got married, they transferred the family line here and had your uncle and mother."
“Your maternal grandfather wanted to pass on his skills to your uncle, but your uncle didn’t like making porcelain. Only your mother liked it. Due to the rules, your mother couldn’t make porcelain either, so she could only secretly learn from your maternal grandfather and make what she liked.”
"Mom can make all sorts of things, like these little porcelain figurines and other small animals!"
Li Xunli said with a smile, "It's a pity. After my maternal grandfather passed away, no one in the family made ceramics. The small ceramic factory in the backyard of the old house was abandoned. Later, your uncle made money and moved to where we live now. Now, only your maternal grandfather occasionally goes back to clean the old house."
"You can give this set to your classmate as a birthday present, okay?"
Shen Qingqing was a little hesitant to accept it; the set of small porcelain pieces was a bit too heavy. Her mother's eyes sparkled when she talked about the set.
Perhaps sensing Shen Qingqing's hesitation, Li Xunli patted her head. "What are you afraid of? This set of porcelain is only for your classmate. That's why I took it out. Your dad is working for his uncle now. We need to give gifts in a respectable way, but not in a way that makes it seem like we're targeting the adults. This is just right."
"Yes!" Shen Qingqing nodded heavily, then carried the wooden box back to her room.
Time slipped by as Shen Qingqing would occasionally open the wooden box to take a look.
On Saturday morning, Shen Qingqing was awakened by the noise outside.
Li Xunjin came to pick up Li Xunli so they could go to Shancheng next door to look at jobs.
Shen Qingqing threw off the covers and ran out, hugging her mother before she could leave: "Mom! Everything went smoothly!"
Touched, Li Xunli knelt down and kissed Shen Qingqing's cheek before leaving with Li Xunjin.
Shen Rongzhou had already gone to work. He only had half a day to attend classes now, spending the mornings unloading goods with the experienced workers, for which he was paid.
After washing up, Shen Qing ate the steamed buns left in the kitchen. While doing her homework in her room, she kept an eye out for whether Shen Yangyang had woken up.
After Shen Yangyang woke up, I took her to the bathroom to wash up and let her eat the rest of the buns. Then I thought about how to take care of the child.
After thinking it over, I decided to teach her to read.
For lunch, I cooked a poached egg and vegetable noodles, and I ate it with gusto, even drinking all the soup.
When Shen Rongzhou rushed back that evening, he found that Shen Qingqing had already prepared dinner.
