Chapter 11 I Don't Want My Mother to Give In Every Time

"Are you serious?" Li Xunli looked at Shen Rongzhou in surprise.

Even Li Xunjin stared intently at Shen Rongzhou, waiting for him to explain himself.

Shen Rongzhou told Li Xunli and Li Xunjin everything that Zhang Zeqin had told him on the road.

Li Xunli looked stunned after hearing this.

Li Xunjin was also half-awake and half-remorseful.

This happened more than ten years ago, so long that Li Xunjin had forgotten it. Back then, when he was learning to make porcelain from his grandfather, Li Xunli, who was two years younger than him, was sitting next to him.

Li Xunli's talent in porcelain far surpasses his.

Whether it's controlling the moisture content of the clay during molding or controlling the temperature during firing, she only needs to listen to her grandfather explain it once or twice and try it herself once before she can avoid making mistakes.

Even her maternal grandfather said that he wished Li Xunli were a boy.

Later, Li Xunjin gave up learning ceramics, and Li Xunli had no reason to continue learning. The Li family's ceramics-making skills were lost with the passing of their grandfather.

However, Li Xunli did not think for long before giving her answer: "Forget it, I haven't touched porcelain for so many years. Besides, I'm working at Mr. Zhang's factory in Rongzhou now, and I've finally settled down. I'll think of another way myself."

Shen Rongzhou knew nothing about porcelain and had no way to persuade him.

Li Xunjin had studied it, so he naturally knew that Li Xunli hadn't touched it for over ten years. This was a huge disadvantage for a craftsman, as it would take a lot of time to readjust and become familiar with it again. So he didn't try to dissuade her.

Li Xunli's wistful tone made Shen Qingqing, who was eavesdropping in her room, feel very uncomfortable.

She recalled that when she was in kindergarten, she never finished a clay sculpting assignment on her own. She would struggle all night and still not finish it. Then her mother would tell her to go to sleep, and the next day she would see a completed clay sculpting assignment on her schoolbag.

Every time I bring her to kindergarten, she amazes the other children.

Even now, Shen Yangyang's occasional craft projects are all done by Li Xunli.

In her past life, she had no idea that this was a skill her mother had possessed since childhood.

Looking back now, it's clear that her mother never neglected the basics.

She must have known this herself, but for her father's sake, she chose to temporarily give up her own life.

Shen Qingqing silently closed the door and went to take a shower.

Now is not a good time for her to say anything; she needs to find the right opportunity to directly push her mother to take the initiative to find herself.

Instead of making concessions step by step for the sake of her father and family.

After seeing Li Xunjin off, Li Xunli and Shen Rongzhou returned to their room. After closing the door, Shen Rongzhou let out a long sigh.

Li Xunli was tidying up her clothes, preparing to let Shen Rongzhou take a shower, when she heard him suddenly sigh like this, somewhat puzzled: "Rongzhou, why are you sighing?"

Shen Rongzhou looked at Li Xunli with a guilty expression: "Wife, is it because of me that you stopped going to work at General Manager Zhang's factory?"

Li Xunli paused for a moment, then continued packing her clothes as if nothing had happened: "Didn't I already say? I haven't fired porcelain in so many years. Do you think you can just learn this skill by chance?"

"But when it comes to skills, once you learn them, you learn them. If you're not skilled, just practice more and you'll get the hang of it. Besides, since Mr. Zhang asked, he probably doesn't mind if my husband and I work in the same job. I work on the transport line, and you work on the production line. We're practically unrelated in the factory, aren't we?"

Shen Rongzhou actually wanted to persuade Li Xunli to take the job, just as he had thought before, even if only one of them could stay in the end, he was willing to let Li Xunli stay.

“You don’t understand. Back in my grandfather’s time, the porcelain market wasn’t doing very well. Many small-scale producers were eventually incorporated into factories. Selling everyday porcelain was just a matter of small profits and quick turnover. Transporting it in was also very costly. It was really not as sustainable as being a driver like you.”

When Li Xunli heard Shen Rongzhou say this, she had no choice but to stop and explain it to him.

Shen Rongzhou was from the neighboring province of Jiangxi. Although there was a famous porcelain city in Jiangxi, it was far from Shen Rongzhou's home. In addition, the Shen family had never been involved with ceramics, so it was normal for him not to know anything about them.

"Mr. Zhang said he wanted to enter the mid-to-high-end porcelain market, but how easy is it to enter the mid-to-high-end porcelain market? Chaozhou is famous for everyday porcelain. It is difficult for mid-to-high-end art porcelain to develop in Chaozhou. Small porcelain figurines are produced in mass production, but where is the market? They can barely make a living by being given as gifts on holidays, but who gives these as gifts every day?"

After Li Xunli voiced her concerns, Shen Rongzhou understood her worries.

Zhang Zeqin certainly has the confidence to develop two production lines: one for everyday ceramics and the other for mid-to-high-end ceramics. Even if he loses money on the production line that focuses solely on basic everyday ceramics, he won't lose too much.

However, the workers on the production line that the boss had set up to test things out had to live in constant fear, afraid that one day they would suddenly have no work.

The transportation line is different. As long as the factory is still selling goods, it will definitely need a transportation team.

Even if the factory goes bankrupt completely, there will still be plenty of places that need transport teams, and plenty of factories that need experienced drivers.

But what about the workers who tried to make new porcelain? If they failed, it meant that the path was not viable, so where would they be needed?

"It's okay, don't worry. I'll just keep working at the garment factory for now, and I'm fine, aren't I?" Li Xunli stuffed the clothes she had packed into Shen Rongzhou's arms. "Don't think about it anymore, go take a shower, you have to go to work tomorrow."
