Chapter 14: Settlement of Accounts

After calming down, Ai Xiaoxia went to the supply and marketing cooperative, bought rock sugar, white sugar and oil, and some thick plastic bags, and then went home.

When she reached the door, she felt a special sense of belonging. This was the place where she felt most at ease.

Li Shaofen came out and helped her bring the things into the house. After preparing all the ingredients for making snacks and washing their hands, the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law started to work.

After a while, Lu Lin also came, but still without the child. She said that she thought everyone was busy here, and the noise caused by the child would affect their work. She had agreed with her mother-in-law to go back at noon today, so she could help here in the morning with peace of mind.

It was not until after noon that everything was finished. Lu Lin made a hundred yuan. She didn't even have lunch and hurried home.

Ai Xiaoxia really likes this sister-in-law in her heart. She says what she wants to say directly without beating around the bush, and she works sincerely.

After putting the finished snacks in a shallow basket to dry, they had lunch. Afterwards, Ai Xiaoxia calculated the cost with Lu Jingyuan and determined that the cost of one piece of snack was 1.4 cents. Taking into account unexpected losses, the cost came to 1.5 cents per piece.

So Ai Xiaoxia set the price at 30 cents for retail, and 25 cents for orders over 10 yuan.

The plastic bag Ai Xiaoxia bought was a small, thick one, which was just enough to fit ten snacks in, and you could still see the exquisiteness of the snacks clearly.

Regarding sealing, Lu Guojiu gave a good suggestion. He suggested burning an iron ruler with a candle and then pressing it on the plastic bag. It would be almost the same as if it were sealed with a sealing machine. It would look beautiful and would not damage the snacks.

There are twenty bags in total, because even if they are sold individually, they have to be sealed, otherwise they will become soft overnight in the summer. Anyway, I am not sure how many bags I can sell, so I pack them all in, and if someone buys them individually, they can just open the bags.

Everything is ready, and the whole family is looking at these snacks, because these are not just snacks, nor are they just something that can be exchanged for money, they are also hope.

Seeing that everyone in the family was nervous, Ai Xiaoxia asked Lu Guojiu and Li Shaofen if they wanted to eat any snacks. She could make some simple ones herself, so she made some for them.

After listening to Ai Xiaoxia's words, Lu Jingyuan blurted out, "My dad loves peach cakes the most."

Lu Guojiu wanted to stop his youngest son from speaking, but the words had already come out. He quickly said, "Xia, don't listen to Jingyuan's nonsense. I don't like it. I don't like it."

Ai Xiaoxia was actually very happy after hearing what Lu Jingyuan said, because she had never thought of making peach pastries before. They were simple and profitable, and it was said that they could make more money than shortbread.

She said to Lu Guojiu happily, "Dad, Mom, let's make some peach cakes. Make more and sell some tomorrow. The peach cakes I make are amazing."

Lu Guojiu looked at Ai Xiaoxia in surprise: "Have you ever made peach cakes?"

Ai Xiaoxia had already spoken, and could only say, "The recipe is in the notebook I found. I baked it in an old iron pan on the stove in the winter."

She felt guilty about telling this lie, because she didn't know if there were any major flaws in her statement.

However, Lu Guojiu and the others already trusted Ai Xiaoxia, so they had no doubts.

Lu Jingyuan asked directly: "Sister-in-law, what do you need? I'll buy some if you don't have it at home."

Ai Xiaoxia thought about it and it seemed like they had everything at home, but she was unsure about baking powder, so she asked Li Shaofen: "Mom, do you have baking powder at home? If not, let Jingyuan go buy some."

Li Shaofen said, "Yes, do you use a lot? I'll take one bag."

Ai Xiaoxia said, "That's enough." Then she looked at her brother-in-law Lu Jingyuan, who was eager to try, and said, "Go and crack some walnuts in the warehouse. I'll use them later."

Lu Jingyuan had already left while he was speaking, he was quick with his words and his feet.

Ai Xiaoxia asked Lu Guojiu to help weigh the ingredients. Everything was ready. She waited for Lu Jingyuan to crack the walnuts. She fried the walnut kernels first and let them cool for later use.

Then mix the oil, egg liquid and sugar in proportion, mix the flour, baking soda and baking powder evenly, add walnut kernels, and then pour these into the previous egg oil in batches and knead them into a smooth dough.

Then divide the dough into 25-gram pieces, flatten the pieces, making them lower in the middle and slightly higher on the sides, sprinkle with black sesame seeds, put them in the oven at 180 degrees, and bake for 15 minutes.

This is simple and quick. Before my family’s surprise has completely passed, it’s already finished.

Ai Xiaoxia couldn't help but sigh that her journey through time was truly golden. The little skill of cultivating her sentiments that she had learned from ordinary apps in her previous life was now of great use.

Needless to say, it was a huge success.

Lu Guojiu really liked to eat this. He ate two pieces and praised it highly.

Li Shaofen was so excited that she couldn't close her mouth. Ai Xiaoxia said that this ability to eat was a gift from God. She was so talented.

Ai Xiaoxia and Li Shaofen made some more peach cakes, totaling a hundred yuan, which was convenient for packing.

To be honest, she was not very good at calculating by kilogram. It was troublesome to do so, and she had to bring a scale with her. So she simply calculated the cost by the block, and sold it by the block.

The cost of making peach cakes is low, less than one cent, and they can be sold for two cents each. Of course, the ones she makes are not too big, so the price is cheap and they are easy to sell.

After some calculation, there are thirty bags in total. I can make one dollar from each bag. If I sell them all, I will have a net profit of thirty dollars. In this era when the average monthly salary is more than two hundred dollars, earning thirty dollars a day is a lot.

That night, Ai Xiaoxia heard the door of the east room opening and closing, and the light turning on and off. She was worried and asked what was going on at the door.

As a result, Li Shaofen came out and told her that she was afraid that the snacks would be eaten by mice, and she was also afraid that it would suddenly rain and let the rain in. In short, she was afraid of any accidents, so she got up to check after a while.

Ai Xiaoxia looked at her lovely mother-in-law and didn't know what to say. Anyway, she wouldn't sleep well even if you asked her to, so just let the old lady toss and turn. She would feel relieved when she got used to it.

The next morning, after having breakfast and staying for a while, Ai Xiaoxia took Li Shaofen and Lu Jingyuan to the market.

Because they went too early, they didn't know which stall belonged to whom. It would be bad if they suddenly took up someone else's space, so they waited until most of the stalls had been cleared before going. This way it was safer to find a place.

After eight o'clock, Ai Xiaoxia and the others went to the market.

Lu Jingyuan was the laborer who moved the boxes. Ai Xiaoxia took a small kang table to put snacks on later, as food could not be placed directly on the ground. Li Shaofen took two small stools.

Ai Xiaoxia brought Li Shaofen with her not only to teach her how to sell things, but also because Li Shaofen had to learn these things as well. After all, Ai Xiaoxia would be going to the city in three months.

When they arrived at the market, Ai Xiaoxia knew that the most food was sold at the westernmost side of the market because it was close to the school. If it was not summer vacation, many students would come out to buy food at noon.

Of course, it is also close to the supply and marketing cooperative and the township government, so people with jobs can spend money more freely.

Ai Xiaoxia's family didn't need a very big space, and seeing that there was a pancake stall with a lot of empty space, they discussed it with the pancake uncle and sat next to him.

After setting up the stall, Ai Xiaoxia felt that the table was too low, so she asked Lu Jingyuan to find a few bricks to put under the corners of the table.

Afterwards, Ai Xiaoxia put up a cardboard sign on the table, which read "Classic Palace Dim Sum".
