"Pick up the kids?"

With his back to the floor-to-ceiling window, his tall figure blocked some of the light.
Only the sound of turning pages echoed.
"Are you looking for a job?"
The man's voice was undeniably hoarse, like a tired traveler in the desert, thirsty for water.
"Well, I just came here when I returned home."
Without saying anything, he tore the contract in half and threw it into the trash can. "We don't need anybody here."
"But I've already signed the contract. If you change your mind now, you'll have to pay according to the contract."
She narrowed her eyes and tilted her head with a smile.
