Chapter 288: A Gamble (2/2)

Minister Ji first expressed gratitude to everyone for their concern on behalf of Ruan Tang, and said that Ruan Tang was fine and was currently under investigation by the Ministry of Health.

"The assailant who injured Dean Ruan has also been apprehended. He is receiving treatment in the hospital due to serious injuries. He will be held accountable according to law after his treatment."

"If you have evidence that can prove Dean Ruan's innocence, please tell me or tell the comrades at the police station."

The plainclothes officer was afraid that everyone would think Minister Ji was lying, so he added: "Minister Ji has guaranteed Dean Ruan. No one wants Dean Ruan to be alright more than him."

The volunteers looked at Minister Ji differently, as if he were one of their own.

"I have evidence!"

"Gui Shuyi cheated on her husband! His husband cheated on her too!"

"After Gui Shuyi became pregnant, the man who took care of her was her lover! They just had their own things to do, so how could they possibly argue over whose child it was?"

Volunteers and family members said that this matter was not a secret at all in the hospital.

When a family member went out to buy things, he saw Feng Shao being intimate with another pregnant woman and shopping for baby things in a state-owned store together.

Minister Ji hurriedly asked the plainclothes officers to arrange for everyone to give their statements.

Minister Ji rode his bicycle to the hospital by himself.

Ji Gaoyang had been beaten, and although the injuries were minor, they had healed quickly. He didn't want to be discharged from the hospital because he didn't want his father to drag him to the base for training.

Zhan Tingbai simply turned herself around and sat next to Ji Gaoyang's bed. The two of them lived in the same room, which also made it convenient for Ji Gaoyang's wife to take care of him.

The two of them disliked the food in the hospital because it was not tasty, so every day Ji Gaoyang's wife would bring them food from the hospital.

Coincidentally, there were members of the Zhan family visiting the patient in the ward, but Ji Gaoyang's wife only brought two meals.

Zhan Tingbai asked Ji Gaoyang's wife to buy a few more meals from the hospital cafeteria.

Ji Gaoyang saw that his wife was a little unhappy, "I'll join in!"

After the two left, the Zhan family members sneered, "Gao Yang is really worried about his wife. They have been so affectionate for so long, how come they don't even have a child?"

Although Zhan Tingbai didn't like this daughter-in-law, despised her family background and focused on her work, and didn't even want to have a child after getting married, she didn't want others to criticize the daughter-in-law she chose.

When the Ji family was weak, Zhan Ting carefully selected this daughter-in-law. If others disliked her daughter-in-law, wouldn't that be a slap in her face?

"Gao Yang is like his father, loving his wife. This is the tradition of our Ji family."

Seeing that Zhan Tingbai had even moved Old Ji out, Zhan's sister-in-law smiled awkwardly and shut up, then turned to talk about Zhan Mengchao's betrothal gift.

How could Zhan Tingbai not know what her sister-in-law from her natal family meant? She came to the hospital to visit the patient every day without fail. Wasn't it just because she wanted her to give her more money?

But she was happy these past two days and didn't mind making her family happy too.

"Alright, you've told me this a hundred and eighty times. It's just that the betrothal gift is a thousand short. I'll make it up to you when the time comes."

The Zhan family's sister-in-law smiled cheerfully and sat down in front of Zhan Tingbai's bed to compliment him.

"Where's my sister? Why didn't she come to see me these two days?"

"Hey, how can she be so ashamed to go out now? Such a big thing happened in his family, and everyone is gathered at his door pointing and talking."

The Zhan family's sister-in-law shook her head in disdain. "If you ask me, it's not bad to marry a daughter-in-law of equal status. Look at my younger sister. She has no control over her daughter-in-law at all. Unlike you, her eldest aunt, you have to rush back to deliver food to your daughter-in-law even when she's at work. You control her completely."

Zhan Tingbai coughed lightly, which was considered a compliment from Zhan's sister-in-law.

When Minister Ji came over, he saw Ji Gaoyang and his wife flirting at the door.

"What are you doing?"

Ji Gaoyang and his wife were startled when they heard Minister Ji's voice. They both lowered their heads and shouted, "Dad."

Minister Ji didn't even respond and walked past the two of them to the ward.

Then I heard the three members of the Zhan family complimenting Zhan Tingbai.

The pressure around Minister Ji dropped even lower.

Ji Gaoyang's wife winked at Ji Gaoyang: Why is Dad coming here in the middle of the day?

Ji Gaoyang shook his head. He didn't know either.

Minister Ji strode into the ward only after he had heard enough.

When Zhan's sister-in-law heard the sound, she thought Ji Gaoyang and his wife had returned: "What took you so long? Is there no food in the cafeteria?"

I didn't hear Ji Gaoyang's wife's reply. Just when I was about to scold her, I turned around and saw Old Ji's grave face. I was so scared that I almost fell off the chair.

He didn't even have time to eat and ran away with his family in a hurry.

Zhan Tingbai was a little nervous. She was not sure when Old Ji would come. She tried hard to recall that she did not say anything she shouldn't have said before she breathed a sigh of relief.

"Old Ji, why are you back so late in the afternoon? Is there something wrong? Sit down and talk."

Minister Ji glanced disdainfully at the chair where the Zhan family's sister-in-law had sat, and looked down at Zhan Tingbai. "You've got a few people praising you 24/7. Are you sick?"

Zhan Tingbai hurriedly defended herself, "The doctor said I'm really sick."

Minister Ji looked at Zhan Tingbai coldly. Zhan Tingbai trembled and said, "The doctor said, I have a little anemia."

"Oh."

Minister Ji sneered, "If a little anemia is enough to get you hospitalized, then I have blood clots in my brain, two ribs removed, and rheumatism in my feet. Shouldn't I be put in a coffin?"

The only thing Zhan Tingbai is thankful for now is that her family has been scared away by Old Ji, otherwise she would have lost all face.

"The doctor will be at work this afternoon. Please go and complete the discharge procedures yourself. Together with your son."

"If I find you guys taking up public medical resources again, then come and volunteer at the hospital."

"Zhan Tingbai, you should know that I keep my word."

Zhan Tingbai agreed reluctantly.

Minister Ji still couldn't understand why he married this vain and stupid woman.

But now is not the time to dwell on this.

"Zhan Tingbai, I have another question that I need you to explain."

Zhan Tingbai swallowed nervously, she didn't know what Lao Ji was going to ask.

"Your nephew and his wife are not on good terms, and each has a lover. Why did you tell me that they were childhood sweethearts and had a deep affection for each other?"

Zhan Tingbai blinked innocently. "Who told you that? Ah Shao was transferred to Hangzhou Film Studio as deputy director, and Shuyi specifically applied to follow him. How could they have a falling out and each have a lover? Maybe you got the wrong information?"

Minister Ji glanced at Zhan Tingbai's hands that were tightly gripping the bed sheet and said, "Zhan Tingbai, the quilt was torn, you have to pay for it."

Zhan Tingbai was so panicked that she subconsciously let go of her hand.

"As you said yourself, you are innocent. If I find out that you are involved, I will definitely investigate and punish you according to the law."

After Minister Ji finished speaking, he turned and left.

When he reached the door, Minister Ji looked at Ji Gaoyang and his wife, who were like quails.

He returned to the ward and said, "Zhan Tingbai, you have something on your mind."

Zhan Tingbai was a tough-looking person with a weak heart. Whenever she was wronged, she would make a big fuss about it. But this time, she admitted it.
