Chapter 3 I'm Not the Old Wang Next Door

Ji Nanfeng initially despised his own exceptional hearing. He listened to Xu Yan bustling about noisily outside the door.

After Ruan Tang ate two big buns, Xu Yan prepared to take people away.

Before leaving the Ji family's courtyard, I heard Xu's mother spitting. "Let me tell you, marrying an educated youth from the city is a traitor. They don't ask for any betrothal gifts, and they don't even have the support of their parents. Look at Ruan Tang from my family. I made her unhappy last night, so I kicked her out on our wedding night, and she didn't even dare to fart."

Xu Yan was afraid that Ruan Tang would be angry, so he quickly said that his mother was acting.

Ruan Tang lowered her head, hiding the coldness in her eyes. Xu Yan's mother was speaking from the heart.

When the villagers saw Ruan Tang, the real boss, coming, they all made way for him.

"Mom." Ruan Tang called softly.

Those mothers-in-law immediately looked at Xu's mother with admiration. Not only did she pick up a daughter-in-law from the city for free, but she also had the power to control her tightly.

Mother Xu became increasingly excited, raising her chin critically at Ruan Tang. "Whose new daughter-in-law sleeps so late? Why doesn't she hurry up and cook? Doesn't she know the whole family is waiting for breakfast?"

Ruan Tang looked sharply at Father Xu and Old Secretary Hu leading eight or nine people over with respectful expressions.

She decided to add fuel to the fire.

Ruan Tang exclaimed, "Brother Yan, why didn't you tell Mom and the others that they hadn't eaten yet? And you even brought me five big meat buns..."

There is nothing more heartbreaking than seeing a son you have raised for over 20 years turning against you.

Although Mr. Xu was the team leader, he did not have the luxury of eating five big meat buns for breakfast.

Xu's mother was furious and jealous, and she cursed: "You little spendthrift girl, you only know how to coax men into spending money on you. It's true that people from the city don't know the rules at all. I will definitely set some rules for you..."

"Zhao Yufeng, shut up!" Father Xu scolded Mother Xu harshly.

The leader made the final decision: "Captain Xu, your family's awareness is not good enough. You need to undergo ideological re-education. Bring the people to me quickly."

Xu Yan was so frightened that his legs went weak and he ran behind his father. "Dad, save me!"

Xu Yan was so frightened that his legs went weak. He worked at the county supply and marketing department. The county was in chaos right now, and if he was taken away, he didn't know if he would be able to come back.

"This is not up to you." The eight people rushed forward, greeted Xu Yan, and dragged him away.

Father Xu had to give birth to two daughters before he finally had this son. He was heartbroken. "My son has always been a good boy. Is there some misunderstanding here?"

"We've always followed rules and regulations. A caring comrade reported that you were planning a wedding night last night. Wedding nights are a feudal dregs and are unacceptable. It's a good thing you didn't have one last night, otherwise it would be more than just a matter of ideological re-education."

The leader left these words and left with his men.

Xu's father searched the house, took out all the money, and rode his bicycle to chase the man.

Ruan Tang saw Xu's father off to the door and said, "Dad, I will take care of the house."

Father Xu didn't even glance at Ruan Tang and rode his bicycle to catch up.

After closing the door, Ruan Tang squatted on the ground and laughed silently.

Sure enough, the Hu family did not let her down.

Last night, she deliberately pointed out Xu Yan's feudal superstition of wanting to have a wedding night, simply because she saw the Hu family's eldest grandson also making a scene. As expected, the Hu family didn't disappoint her, inviting people over early in the morning. Secretary Hu was approaching retirement age, and while the company leaders were interested in replacing Xu's father, Secretary Hu preferred his eldest son to take over.

She handed the Xu family's handle to the Hu family, and the Hu family did not let her down. They sent people to take action early in the morning.

However, I don’t know how powerful the Hu family is and whether they can completely crush the Xu family.

Ruan Tang slept leisurely until dark, then went to the kitchen to find the leftover meat and vegetables from the wedding banquet and made a pot of braised pork rice with both meat and vegetables.

She finished two bowls of fragrant and sticky braised pork rice by herself, and no one from the Xu family showed up. Xu Yan's two older sisters were married in the county, so Xu's father must have failed to rescue them, so he turned to his daughter for help.

Ruan Tang walked around the yard for a while and heard that things were not going well at the Ji family next door.

Grandma Ji stood at the door, trying to persuade Ji Nanfeng earnestly not to be so stubborn.

Ruan Tang pricked up her ears, but did not hear Ji Nanfeng's response.

Grandma Ji was prepared and moved a chair to block the door. "If you can't figure it out, don't eat. Let's just wait like this."

Little Brother Ji was afraid that Grandma Ji would be cold, so he built a bonfire to warm her feet.

Ruan Tang strolled around three more times, only vaguely hearing Grandma Ji's nagging. Did she still not give in?

The Ji family's main house has three rooms. Ji Nanfeng lives in the east room, which is close to the Xu family's earthen wall.

Ruan Tang climbed up the half-person-high earthen wall and knocked on Ji's window with a bamboo rat.

Knock knock knock.

Ji Nanfeng went to the sealed window and removed the wooden board in two moves.

Pushing open the window, he saw Ruan Tang sitting on the earthen wall, swinging her legs leisurely.

"Are you Grandma Ji's eldest grandson? I heard that you were looking for me?"

Ji Nanfeng nodded, turned around and handed a letter to Ruan Tang.

Ruan Tang was momentarily dazed. In her previous life, Ji Nanfeng had sent her a letter, but it hadn't landed in her hands. If the letter had landed in her hands, perhaps she wouldn't have lived in such a muddled state for over twenty years.

She suddenly didn't want to read the letter anymore. She wanted to hear it from Ji Nanfeng himself.

"You, give me a hand."

Ji Nanfeng remained motionless with a cold face. This woman was Xu Yan's new wife. He hadn't known about it last night, but he couldn't knowingly commit a crime tonight.

Ji Nanfeng didn't move, so Ruan Tang jumped down by herself.

Jump down.

Ji Nanfeng's eyelids jumped, and by the time he reacted, he had already opened his arms and held Ruan Tang in his arms.

Only when the woman was safely in his arms did Ji Nanfeng feel his heart beating normally again and his ability to speak came back.

After releasing the person, Ji Nanfeng lowered his voice and preached: "It's so high, you will break your legs!"

"It's only half a person's height. I can get over it in one step."

Ruan Tang ignored him and put the braised pork rice she brought on the table.

Ji Nanfeng glanced at Ruan Tang's short legs. If she took a step forward, her crotch would definitely get stuck on the window frame. However, he tactfully didn't say anything. It wasn't his turn to worry about the crotch of the Xu family's daughter-in-law next door.

Ruan Tang returned the letter to Ji Nanfeng, "I can't read. Tell me, what do you want from me?"

Ji Nanfeng's voice was cold and low as he briefly recounted what happened last night. "I'll accept whatever you decide to do. Even if you report me for being a hooligan, I'll take it."

Ruan Tang looked at Ji Nanfeng, his eyes full of seriousness.

"I want you to marry me."

"You want me to marry you?"

Ji Nanfeng repeated it in disbelief.

This was different from what he had expected. He thought the woman would cry, be at a loss, hit him, and scold him, but he had never expected this.

"I'm not Mr. Wang next door." He really has no interest in other people's wives.
