Chapter 41 The Camp Bed Collapsed

Ji Nanfeng magically took out a camp bed from behind the door.

He took out a quilt from the sack and threw Ruan Tang onto the camp bed.

Ji Nanfeng rested his elbows on both sides of Ruan Tang, their noses touching.

"From now on, when you come to the city, you won't have to stay in a guesthouse anymore. We have our own home..."

Ruan Tang reached out and grabbed Ji Nanfeng's neck. "Stop talking so much nonsense and get going."

She was so excited by Ji Nanfeng's teasing, but he was still giving a speech here.

Ruan Tang rubbed Ji Nanfeng's lips roughly, kissing him so hard that his breathing became heavy.

"Ruan Ruan, it's not good to be so impatient."

Ruan Tang reached out and grabbed Ji Nanfeng's chest, exploring it up and down. "Didn't you always want a reward? It depends on your performance."

When he heard about the reward, Ji Nanfeng immediately shut up and took action.

The camp bed began to creak and shake.

The dim light from outside the window shone into the room, and only a very light groan could be heard from the two people hugging each other.

Not long after, footsteps were heard outside the door, as well as the noise of children chirping. The neighbors on the fourth floor started to get off work and cook.

Ruan Tang was afraid of being discovered, so she bit Ji Nanfeng's shoulder and swallowed the broken sound.

Suddenly, the woman's back straightened up, and the noise in the room gradually died down.

After a while, Ji Nanfeng got up.

He took a washbasin to the washroom to get some water. As soon as he left, a neighbor greeted him. "Chief Ji, have you moved in? Why don't I see your wife?"

"She's cleaning the house."

"Do you want me to help clean up?"

Ji Nanfeng hurriedly closed the door. "No thanks, I've almost finished cleaning."

Ruan Tang covered herself with the quilt, feeling too embarrassed to see anyone.

After Ji Nanfeng came back with some hot water, he simply cleaned up for Ruan Tang and himself, and then they prepared to have dinner.

They placed the aluminum lunch box in the washbasin and waited until the rice started to steam before eating it whole.

Ruan Tang slowed down her eating pace after finishing half of the rice.

Then, she took out a dime from her pocket and pushed it in front of Ji Nanfeng.

"Here, this is your reward."

Ji Nanfeng's eyes widened in disbelief. He had toiled for an hour, and only earned ten cents? Was he not even worthy of a single cent in reward money?

Yu Chengmao thought that he could get a reward of one pound by just making a random stew, but he had to sell his labor and his offspring ten times to save up enough money for one pound.

Ji Nanfeng finished the remaining rice fiercely, grabbed Ruan Tang by the collar and went back to the camp bed.

He just didn't believe that he couldn't make a penny from his hard work.

Ji Nanfeng shook the bed frantically, and the camp bed finally collapsed under the weight.

That's right, the cot collapsed.

Ruan Tang generously kicked Ji Nanfeng again, and then the two of them spread their camp mattresses on the ground and slept for half the night.

The next day, Ruan Tang got up at daybreak and wanted to go back to the village after brushing her teeth, but Ji Nanfeng would not allow her to do so.

He took half a day off today to go to the carpenter's house to order furniture, and also to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy some things.

While the two were struggling, the door next door opened.

Xu Chunhua's eyes flickered between Ruan Tang and her. "Chief Ji, you're up so early?"

Ruan Tang looked at Xu Chunhua's face which was exactly the same as Xu's second brother-in-law's, and couldn't help but sigh that this world is really small.

Surprisingly, Xu Erjie and her family lived next door to their new home.

Also in a one-bedroom apartment of about 20 square meters, lived Xu's second brother-in-law and his wife, along with a son, a daughter, and a widowed mother.

The whole family squeezed into a 20-square-meter house. Given such living conditions, Xu Erjie always put on a lot of pretense every time she went back to her parents' home, for fear that others would not know that she had married into the city and was living a good life.

Xu Chunhua tiptoed and peered into Ruan Tang and the others' room. "Being a leader is different. A young couple gets such a big room. Isn't that a waste?"

"As far as I know, this is the smallest house in the factory, right?" Ruan Tang was about to close the door, but Xu Chunhua pushed against it to stop him.

Xu Chunhua curled her lips. "Chief Ji, your wife is quite difficult to talk to. I originally thought that since you had just moved in, you must not have made breakfast. I was thinking of inviting you all over for breakfast. After all, we are neighbors..."

Ruan Tang suddenly interrupted Xu Chunhua and replied, "Okay."

"What?"

"Didn't you invite us to your house for breakfast? I said yes."

Ruan Tang signaled Ji Nanfeng to close the door, and then she went to the Xu family next door.

Xu Chunhua was not curious about what the Ji family looked like, so she hurriedly followed Ruan Tang back home.

Ruan Tang went to sit at Xu's house and saw Second Sister Xu coming out of her room. "What are you doing in my house?"

"Your mother-in-law warmly invited us to your house for breakfast, and we really couldn't refuse her kindness. You two aren't picky eaters, so just give us ten or eight meat buns. If I don't have enough, I won't be able to eat." His expression was as if the saying "It's easier to invite a deity than to send it away" was written all over his face.

Second Sister Xu was about to scold Ruan Tang for wanting to eat her cake, but when she saw Ji Nanfeng following in, she forced herself to hold back. Her husband was in a critical period of promotion, and she couldn't afford to offend Section Chief Ji.

Ji Nanfeng then turned to Xu's second brother-in-law, "Secretary Qin, your family's dinner invitations are always cold? Or is it that your family didn't really want to treat my wife and me to dinner, but just casually said it, and we foolishly took it seriously?"

If this gets out, he'll become a laughing stock in their office, and there's no way he'll get a promotion or a raise.

In the end, it was Xu's second brother-in-law who took the money to the cafeteria to buy breakfast.

When he came back, he brought a girl with him.

Ruan Tang recognized him as the waiter in the guesthouse.

Xu's second brother-in-law introduced her, "This is Jin Yue'er from the Jin Yuren family next door. Doctor Guan was on duty at the hospital last night, so I asked her to come to our house for breakfast."

Brother-in-law Xu Er took out twenty big steamed buns, ten vegetarian steamed buns, and even made some soy milk, filling the table.

He invited everyone to eat together and poured a full bowl of soy milk for Jin Yueer.

Ruan Tang glanced at Xu Erjie and found that she was stiffly picking up meat buns for her son to eat, and she didn't even glance at Jin Yueer.

After Jin Yue'er nodded at Ruan Tang, she calmly began to eat the bun and soy milk.

Judging from his appearance, he had been eating at the Qin family for free quite a bit. His calm expression made him look like a genuine guest at home.

Ruan Tang was a little curious. Given Xu Erjie's temper, she actually allowed other families to eat at her house for a long time. This was unscientific.

And the most important thing is, if she saw it correctly, this Jin Yue'er was not a virgin. When she was walking, her legs were slightly turned outward, and she looked like a pregnant woman in her early stages.

So, did the Qin family know that Jin Yue'er was pregnant before marriage?

These days, being pregnant before marriage is not a glorious thing, and every family avoids it. If the Qin family knew, they would probably know whose child Jin Yue'er was carrying.

Ruan Tang gossiped in her heart, but she also did not forget to eat with her belly full. At the end, she asked Xu Chunhua: "Auntie, would you like to treat us two to lunch as well?"

"We don't cook at noon..." Xu Chunhua regretted it so much that after sending Ruan Tang and his wife away, she slapped herself hard. This breakfast almost consumed all the breakfasts for their family for a month.

Ruan Tang was so exhausted that she could not move anymore. She went home and held the door while letting Ji Nanfeng rub her belly.

"Why are you doing this? You're asking for trouble."

Ruan Tang hummed: "I'm happy!"

Xu Chunhua is an old woman with a kind face but a bitter heart. In the past, she often instigated her grandchildren to snatch Jiaojiao's things behind her back, and Xu Yan would just let Jiaojiao endure it... This is not the end of the matter. She is just trying to get back some interest.
