Chapter 45 It’s better not to have a baby

Ji Nanfeng was so confused by the word "Old Man" that he got up early in the morning to prepare for the spring outing.

South of Hongyang County, the banks of the Red River are lined with willow trees. In the spring breeze, the willows sway in the wind, like a spring dream.

This place is undoubtedly a holy place for spring outing.

Hearing that Ji Nanfeng and Ruan Tang were going on a spring outing, Ji Xiaodi insisted on coming along. When the three of them arrived at the village entrance, Ji Xiaodi's four younger brothers also followed.

In this way, the group of seven people slowly arrived at the Red River.

Because we arrived late, many of the good spots near the river were already occupied.

Ji Xiaodi and his companions finally found a place and waved to Ruan Tang and the others to come over.

When Ruan Tang came over, she found that it was Xu Erjie's family, the round-faced waitress Jin Yue'er, and Doctor Guan who lived next door.

Ruan Tang didn't expect to meet Doctor Guan here, but she still had a decent smile on her face.

After greeting Ji Nanfeng, Xu's second brother-in-law invited Ji Nanfeng to play together, but Ji Nanfeng refused.

Ji Xiaodi and his friends spread out an old bed sheet and let Ruan Tang sit down to rest. They then swarmed over to pick up stones and built a simple stove. They put up the iron net they brought with them and started to boil orange peel water around the stove. They also placed sweet potatoes and potatoes next to the teapot.

Ruan Tang leaned beside Ji Nanfeng and asked in a low voice why Doctor Guan was having a picnic with Xu Erjie's family.

Ji Nanfeng flipped the potatoes and said, "I heard that after Director Jin from the maternity workshop lost his wife, he married a doctor from the county hospital."

Ruan Tang understood, so this Guan Yibo was Jin Yueer's stepmother. Since stepmother and stepdaughter could go on a spring outing together, it seemed they had a good relationship.

If the two of them had a really good relationship, how could a doctor like Guan not know that his stepdaughter was pregnant? I wonder if this relationship is really good or just fake.

"Where are Ji Xiaodi and the others?"

Ruan Tang looked around before she saw Ji Xiaodi and his companions sneaking to the riverside, turning over rocks to look for snails.

"Don't worry about them. It's not the spring flood season yet, so the river isn't deep. We used to play in the river like this when we were little. Every summer, the kids would go swimming in the river, just like dumplings being cooked in a pot."

Ji Nanfeng said as he handed Ruan Tang a baked potato.

After Ruan Tang was sure there was no danger, she sat back on the old bed, picked up the baked potato, and took a small bite. It was salty and delicious. The taste made the child next door cry with envy.

Xu Erjie's son, Qin Xiaoyang, sniffed and stepped on the old bed sheet with a muddy foot. "Give me the roasted potatoes. If you please me, I will let my uncle marry you, a slut."

Ruan Tang laughed in anger and threw the remaining half potato to the local dog that came running over to smell the fragrance. "You have a big mouth. I would rather give it to the dog than to you. You're so greedy."

Ruan Tang knew very well that the five or six-year-old Qin Xiaoyang could say this because he must have learned it from adults.

Qin Xiaoyang burst into tears as he watched the local dog devour the potato in one gulp.

Second Sister Xu pulled her son back in anger, "Who cares about those little potatoes?"

"I like it. I want to eat it." Qin Xiaoyang rolled on the ground.

Brother-in-law Xu felt sorry for his son, so he had to exchange the eggs for baked potatoes.

Ruan Tang accepted it, exchanging one potato for one egg.

Xu Erjie was upset. "One egg for one potato, what a good deal."

Ruan Tang took the potato back and returned the egg. "If your son hadn't been crying so hard, I wouldn't have been willing to exchange it. Who needs an egg?"

Qin Xiaoyang was already crying and gasping for breath. "I want baked potatoes. I want potatoes. I want two potatoes."

In the end, it was Dr. Guan who took six eggs and exchanged them for three potatoes.

Give one to Qin Danniu, one to Qin Xiaoyang, and one to Jin Yueer.

After Qin Xiaoyang finished eating in a few bites, he went to grab Qin Danniu's potato. Qin Danniu stuffed the potato into her mouth in one gulp and rolled her eyes because she ate too fast.

Second Sister Xu slapped her daughter in anger, "You starving ghost, you didn't even think of leaving some food for your brother."

Qin Xiaoyang didn't dare to snatch Jin Yueer's potatoes. Seeing that there were no potatoes on Ji's oven, he stuck out his tongue at Ruan Tang and ran to the river to play.

After Jin Yueer finished eating the potatoes, she was called by Doctor Guan to go for a walk by the river.

When the noise next door finally died down, Ji Nanfeng rubbed his brows. "From now on, we'll just have one daughter."

Ruan Tang was a little surprised by Ji Nanfeng's realization, "Then it's a deal, we will only have one daughter from now on."

After the two of them got to know each other, Ruan Tang felt a lot more relaxed.

He called out to Ji Xiaodi and his friends to come and eat roasted sweet potatoes, and roasted the eggs he had exchanged for them as well, sprinkled them with salt, and the five of them ate happily.

After leaving a few people to watch the fire, Ji Nanfeng took Ruan Tang for a walk along the river.

Ruan Tang's legs felt weak after the intense exertion yesterday, so Ji Nanfeng took her to the small path.

When there was no one around, he carried Ruan Tang on his back and shuttled through the bushes.

As they were walking, Ji Nanfeng suddenly stopped.

"Why don't you leave?"

"Look ahead."

In front of them, Xu's second brother-in-law was holding Jin Yue'er in his arms. Jin Yue'er rested her head on Xu's second brother-in-law's chest with a look of satisfaction.

"Look to your left."

Ruan Tang looked in the direction Ji Nanfeng pointed and saw a figure hiding behind the bushes. It was none other than Xu Erjie.

The usually tough Xu Erjie hid in a corner and watched her brother-in-law Xu Er having an affair with someone.

"My mother is gone, otherwise she would come to find me." Jin Yueer got up from the arms of her second brother-in-law Xu and walked towards Doctor Guan who was washing his hands by the river.

As soon as Jin Yue'er left, Xu Erjie came out from the bushes.

"What the hell is that look in your eyes?"

Unable to bear the look, Xu Er's brother-in-law grabbed Xu Er's sister's throat and threw her to the ground. "Even if you don't like me being intimate with others, you have to hold it in. It's because your family is from a poor country village. You can't help at all, and you only ask me to clean up the mess."

Xu Erjie lay on the ground like a dead dog, covering her face, not daring to resist at all.

"If you hadn't climbed into my bed, I would have married a country bumpkin like you. If I had married Jin Yue'er, I wouldn't be just a small clerk now. I have to swallow my anger when I meet everyone."

The more Xu's brother-in-law scolded her, the angrier he became, and he kicked Xu's sister a few more times.

"Why are you lying on the ground pretending to be dead? If you could die, everything would be over. I could marry Jin Yue'er tomorrow."

Second Sister Xu struggled to her feet, lowered her eyes and whispered, "I wasn't looking at the road and accidentally fell."

"You useless thing! You can't even walk. What else can I expect from you?" Brother-in-law Xu cursed enough before he left cursing.

Xu Erjie's face turned pale with pain, and she staggered to catch up, fearing that her brother-in-law would beat her again because she walked too slowly.

Although Ruan Tang looked down on Xu Erjie, she looked down even more on men who beat their wives. Xu Erjie had been beaten so badly, yet she didn't dare to say a word. She wondered if the Xu family, who were rampant in the Qingyun Brigade, knew that their daughter had been bullied like this.

"If any man bullies my daughter in the future, I will kill him with my own hands!"

Ji Nanfeng frowned, "I'm not dead, so why should you pick up a knife and kill someone?"

The two of them lost the mood to continue walking and walked back.

"Alas, it's not good to have a daughter. I worry too much." Ji Nanfeng sighed, "Why not just not have one?"

Ruan Tang couldn't help but kick Ji Nanfeng in the buttocks. If she didn't have a daughter, what did she want from Ji Nanfeng? Was it because he was capable?
