Chapter 158 The Person Has Arrived

On the tenth day of the second lunar month, Song Yongren got up early in the morning, and of course, Song Lili got up with him, because today was the day those elderly people came to Hongqi Village.

I don't know what happened, these people were supposed to arrive a few days ago, but they only arrived today.

Song Yongren brought Song Lili to the brigade headquarters, where they saw Li Weiguo and several others, including several brigade leaders.

Song Lili moved closer to Zhang Qinghua and Daqing. "Hasn't the person arrived yet?"

Zhang Qinghua shook his head. "He hasn't come. He was notified a few days ago that he would arrive in the morning, but he hasn't come yet."

Everyone waited for quite a while, but no one came. However, the sun had already risen high overhead, and Song Lili estimated that it was around ten o'clock.

Everyone stared longingly at the direction of the bridge outside the village, but still couldn't see anyone.

Finally, after much anticipation, all I saw was someone walking away quickly. Only when they got closer did I realize it was actually Xiao Wang.

Xiao Wang, who had previously said he would stay in Hongqi Village to help Wu Ying and Song Yi, also returned to the town when Song Yi left.

Xiao Wang had spent quite a while in Hongqi Village and knew everyone there. So he went straight to Li Weiguo and said, "Secretary Li, please send someone to pick them up right away."

Everyone was taken aback. Li Weiguo quickly stepped forward, "Comrade Wang, what happened?"

"Oh, there are dozens of people here this time, and they're all waiting in town. The town sent me to each village to inform you to go and pick them up."

"Aren't you going to send it over?" Daqing asked naively.

Song Lili knew in her heart that this was because those people could no longer be compared with the previous two groups.

Now, to others, they are people who need reform and re-education; they are no longer simply people sent down to the countryside with a title attached.

It's blatant, openly telling others. These people are just bad, they're the kind of people who should be disliked.

Therefore, how could those below them possibly fawn over them or treat them well?

Everyone was stunned when they heard the news; they hadn't expected this outcome.

People were sent to the village by people from the town before, so everyone naturally assumed that it would be the same this time.

Finally, Yang Weimin sighed and said, "Then I'll go. I'll get the oxcart and go pick them up. You guys wait here."

"Okay, go ahead, but make sure you look carefully," Li Weiguo instructed.

Yang Weimin waved his hand and said, "Don't worry, I know what to do."

Song Lili's lips curled slightly. It seemed that these two genuinely wanted to help Qian Liulin, and she hoped that this would remain their intention in the future.

After Yang Weimin set off, Li Weiguo said to the people standing together, "Everyone, don't stand here anymore. If you have something to do, go home."

Song Lili didn't move because she didn't plan to leave; she had to see those people one last time.

However, "Big Brother, you should go home. There's no point in waiting here anyway. I have things to do, so I won't go back," Song Lili said to Song Yongren.

Song Yongren looked at Song Lili with a puzzled expression, not understanding why Song Lili said that, but he couldn't ask her now.

Seeing Song Lili staring at him, he nodded and said, "Okay, I'm going back now. Fangfang is still waiting for me at home." Then he said to everyone, "I have something to do at home, so I'll be leaving now."

With Song Yongren's lead and seeing that Li Weiguo didn't object, everyone knew that Li Weiguo had agreed.

So, one by one, the captains left, leaving only Song Lili, Zhang Qinghua, Li Weiguo, Daqing, and Lü Qiaosheng.

Lu Qiaosheng was still here. Song Lili frowned; she actually didn't want Lu Qiaosheng to be here.

Lu Qiaosheng is a very smart man. If he were here, he would definitely be able to discover the problem. So Song Lili was wondering whether she should let Lu Qiaosheng leave.

Li Weiguo and Zhang Qinghua shared the same thought, because Xiao Wang's arrival today made them realize that the elderly people were in a very bad situation.

Judging from the town's attitude, they probably aren't having an easy time either.

So right now, everyone's thinking about how to keep a low profile and get the elderly people to stay without disturbing anyone.

However, Song Lili knew it was impossible; as long as the elderly people were there, others would eventually find out.

She had only thought of it for a fleeting moment. Later she realized how naive she had been; she couldn't possibly hide the old man, so it made no difference whether Lü Qiaosheng was there or not.

So, in the end, she didn't say anything.

Zhang Qinghua quickly understood and stopped Li Weiguo from saying what he wanted to say, and just waited there.

Daqing couldn't sit still any longer and soon pestered Zhang Qinghua, asking, "What do you think the people who are coming look like?"

“A human appearance,” Zhang Qinghua said coldly.

"Hmph," Daqing snorted coldly, angrily walked away, and didn't intend to pay any more attention to Zhang Qinghua.

Song Lili listened with a twitching mouth, thinking that Daqing must have left his brain behind to ask such a question.

She shifted slightly, intending to get away from Daqing, afraid that her IQ would also be affected and drop due to his influence.

An hour later, Yang Weimin appeared at the village entrance driving an oxcart, with four elderly people on it—three men and one woman.

Their clothes were all wrinkled and their hair was messy. They looked listless and lacked energy.

The old lady, in particular, had unfocused eyes, like a walking corpse, just sitting mechanically, her eyes devoid of any spirit.

The other three were somewhat better; although their eyes revealed fatigue, other emotions occasionally flickered in their gazes.

Only the old woman sat there numbly, as if her heart had died, as if she had lost her soul.

Song Lili sighed, "Oh... they've suffered a lot. I hope they'll be better off in the future."

The oxcart stopped, and several elderly people helped each other off the ground. Yang Weimin then drove the oxcart to the cowshed.

Li Weiguo didn't know what to say, so he could only say, "I am the Party Secretary of Hongqi Village, and your accommodations have been arranged."

Actually, he hasn't decided where these elderly people will live yet; he was just saying it.

Among them, an elderly man with gray hair and a gentle expression said, "Thank you for your trouble. These old folks will be causing you trouble in the future."

Li Weiguo didn't say much, "No, no, I'll have someone take you to your accommodation right away."

When Li Weiguo saw Yang Weimin coming over, he quickly went over to him, pulled Yang Weimin aside and whispered, "I just thought about it and decided to let them stay in the house built by the Fifth Brigade."

Yang Weimin was taken aback. "How could this be arranged?" Both of them had previously thought the Third Brigade was quite good.

“I was thinking that with you in the Fifth Brigade, Song Yongren also knows the truth, and Comrade Qian even asked Lili for help.”

"The three of you are all in the Fifth Brigade. With the people here under your watchful eyes, nothing should go wrong."

Otherwise, he wouldn't feel at ease no matter which brigade he was assigned to.
