Chapter 167 Testing Qin Hongxia

Song Lili had been wanting to test Qin Hongxia, so she spent the whole day paying attention to the movements of Qin Hongxia's family.

She even sent Song Fang to play at the door, so that she could tell Qin Hongxia whenever she saw her leave.

However, to her disappointment, Qin Hongxia did not leave the house all day, while Zhang Laidi went in and out countless times.

Song Lili was helpless, but given how often Qin Hongxia went out, it wasn't strange that she didn't go out today.

The next day, Song Lili continued, determined not to give up until Qin Hongxia left the house.

It's not that I haven't considered testing Luo Juan, but the situation is unclear right now, and if she makes things worse, it would be a loss.

Compared to Luo Juan, Qin Hongxia is easier to deal with; she doesn't require much brainpower.

After waiting for four or five days, Song Lili finally caught news of Qin Hongxia one day after it rained. She heard it from Zhang Laidi's loud voice.

At this time of year, wild vegetables are just sprouting and growing tenderly. Since it's raining and we can't go to the fields, Zhang Laidi sent Qin Hongxia to dig for wild vegetables.

Upon hearing what Zhang Laidi said, Song Lili quickly pulled out her own basket, grabbed a shovel, and headed to dig for wild vegetables.

"Lili, let me go with you." Xia Niu quickly said when she heard that Song Lili was going to dig for wild vegetables.

"No need, I can go by myself. Sister-in-law, you should rest at home."

If Xia Niu went along, it would be inconvenient for Song Lili, so she refused.

"No...no, how can I let you go alone?" Xia Niu said hurriedly, and was about to follow Song Lili out the door.

"Sister-in-law, no need, I'll take Fangfang with me. You stay here." With that, she went out the door on her own.

Upon hearing that she was being taken there, Song Fang quickly followed Song Lili out the door.

Watching the two sisters walk away, Xia Niu lowered her head dejectedly and said to Song Jianshe, who had just come out, "Does Lili not like me?"

"How could that be? Why would you think that?" Song Jianshe asked in surprise, finding Xia Niu's question quite inexplicable.

"I just feel that Lili is rather distant and cold towards me. I think she might not like me, otherwise why would she have such an attitude?" As she spoke, she seemed aggrieved.

"Why don't I feel that way? Lili has always been like this!" Song Jianshe was even more confused. Was Lili being cold?

Men are generally more careless, while Xia Niu is more sensitive, which is why she has this feeling.

However, Song Lili was not cold to Xia Niu; it was just Xia Niu's own perception. At most, Song Lili was just not enthusiastic.

“But she… never mind, it’s alright.” With that, Xia Niu went inside; the pot from breakfast hadn’t been washed yet.

Seeing Xia Niu's seemingly angry figure, Song Jianshe felt even more confused. In the end, he could only shake his head, pick up his basket, and go cut grass. Today it was his family's turn to find grass for the village's livestock.

As for Song Lili, she followed Qin Hongxia all the way to the mountain behind the Fifth Brigade. Along the way, she met many people.

Because of Zhang Laidi, most people didn't like Qin Hongxia, so more people greeted Song Lili on the street.

Unable to find a private opportunity, Song Lili could only deal with everyone perfunctorily while keeping an eye on Qin Hongxia.

Compared to Song Lili, Qin Hongxia felt incredibly bitter. She turned and glared at Song Lili before heading to a less crowded area.

Upon seeing this, Song Lili was overjoyed and immediately pulled Song Fang to follow behind, even walking directly past the wild vegetables they passed.

When they finally caught up with Qin Hongxia and reached the other side of the hillside, they found a moment to talk to her.

Most people dig for wild vegetables on the side with the road, and now that the wild vegetables have just started to grow, few people come to the other side.

This environment was perfect for Song Lili, allowing her to test Qin Hongxia without fear of being overheard.

Song Fang was told to stay put and dig for wild vegetables, while Song Lili took a shovel and went to Qin Hongxia's side.

"Why are you following me? Can't you find the place? You little tagalong?"

When Qin Hongxia saw Song Lili, she immediately started making sarcastic remarks. Song Lili had her own agenda, so she didn't retort.

However, they wouldn't say anything nice either: "This isn't your home, why do you care where I go? You're meddling too much!"

"You... I won't care about you. If you weren't with me, I wouldn't bother with you at all."

Song Lili pouted, "You're being too presumptuous! I just think there are lots of wild vegetables here, what does that have to do with you?"

"You..." Qin Hongxia was speechless and didn't know how to respond, so she could only point at Song Lili in anger.

Song Lili snorted coldly. With this level of fighting ability, she still has to take the initiative to provoke others every time. She doesn't know where she gets the courage or confidence.

As Song Lili was pondering how to steer the conversation toward what she wanted to know, she suddenly heard Qin Hongxia's laughter.

"What are you laughing at?" Song Lili asked curiously.

"Heh, it's nothing, I just find it really boring. Song Lili, you're only this tough in front of me."

"What do you mean?" This question, so abrupt and unrelated. How was she supposed to understand it?

"Don't you know what I mean? Don't you understand? I'm saying you're a bully who picks on the weak and fears the strong, and you only dare to act all high and mighty in front of me."

"Ha!" Song Lili laughed in exasperation. "Where did you get the idea that I'm a bully who picks on the weak and fears the strong?" To be honest, Song Lili was genuinely curious about how Qin Hongxia had come to such a conclusion.

"Isn't that right? Would you dare do that to an adult? Would you dare?" In the minds of children, and even teenagers, adults still hold a lot of authority.

Song Lili found it funny. In her heart, she was already over twenty years old, an adult, and of course, a real adult in people's eyes.

Therefore, she could not truly empathize with Qin Hongxia's feelings, but she could understand them, since everyone grows up from childhood.

"Why would I treat an adult like that for no reason? I'm not crazy!" She suddenly had a flash of inspiration. "Unless someone has offended me."

"Heh, you're just bragging. If you really encountered that, I bet you'd chicken out. You'd probably run faster than anyone else, scared to death."

Song Lili scoffed dismissively, "Tch, I'm not afraid, sir. I haven't done anything wrong, what's there to be afraid of?"

"Besides, I'm not even afraid of my own father, so who else would I be afraid of?"

"I think you're the one who's afraid of adults. Otherwise, why would you say that? Let me tell you, I'm not afraid of any adults. What's there to be afraid of?"

In order to elicit Qin Hongxia's words, Song Lili really went all out to portray the image of a stubborn little girl.

Then, she got the result she wanted: Qin Hongxia had been tricked. She looked at Song Lili with a smug look on her face, and her eyes held a hint of schadenfreude as she watched the show unfold.
