Chapter 296 After all, I am so excellent (2)

On the second day of the Lunar New Year, the local custom is to pay respects to one's father-in-law. However, because Luo Juan caused such a big scene yesterday, many people are too afraid to move and are just observing.

In the morning, when Song Lili got up, she saw Song Jianshe chopping firewood in the yard to prepare firewood for Xia Niu.

"Brother, aren't you going to prepare things for your trip to your wife's house? Aren't you going to pay New Year's visits today? Why are you still here?" Song Lili asked, somewhat puzzled.

She had gotten up much later than usual, and now the sun was high in the sky. She thought Song Jianshe and the other man had already left, but she was surprised to find them still there.

"We made a scene yesterday, and nobody moved, so I wasn't prepared either," Song Jianshe said, scratching his head.

Song Lili nodded, thinking that most people probably thought the same way. After all, yesterday's commotion was quite significant, and many people were frightened.

However, is it really possible for Luo Juan to make so many people obedient? Impossible.

There must have been some people who took a chance or did it secretly.

Besides, who said we can't go today? Who said we have to pay New Year's visits?

"Brother, it's alright. Go and prepare the things. Just say you're going to visit your wife's family. Who would dare to say anything if you bring these gifts for your mother-in-law?"

As long as it's not disguised as a New Year's gift, going to Xia Niu's house is perfectly reasonable.

Song Jianshe's eyes lit up immediately. "That's right, Lili, you're so smart! How come I didn't think of that? I'll go prepare right away." With that, he ran off.

Xia Niu, who had been standing at the kitchen door listening the whole time, also looked very happy and said sincerely, "Lili, thank you."

Song Lili glanced at her and said, "It's okay." She was only doing this for Song Jianshe; Xia Niu wasn't currently on her mind.

"Sister-in-law, you don't need to worry about the kitchen. You and my brother can clean it up. I'll take care of things here," Song Lili said calmly.

The second day of the Lunar New Year is when Xia Niu goes back to her parents' home, and Song Lili won't make things difficult for her in this matter; she's not that tasteless.

As long as Xia Niu doesn't cause her trouble, she's generally very easy to talk to, just like now.

"Okay, then I'll trouble you, Lili. I'll go help your brother." Xia Niu happily wiped her hands on her apron and left with a smile.

Song Lili beckoned Song Fang, who was standing under the eaves, to come over and "Come and light the fire for me." Fangfang had nothing else to do anyway.

Many people probably had trouble sleeping yesterday because they were all frightened, which is why they all woke up late today and haven't had breakfast yet.

Song Lili didn't intend to do anything special; she just heated up some steamed buns and cooked some porridge.

Well, there's a lot of oily food during the Lunar New Year holidays, so eating something lighter occasionally is better for your health. It's definitely not because she's too lazy to exercise that she does this.

Song Lili comforted herself with this thought in her heart, and after repeating it two or three times, she began to believe it was true.

There's no way around it, I didn't expect self-suggestion to be so effective. It seems I'm just too good for myself.

And so, with a sense of self-satisfaction, Song Lili prepared breakfast for the whole family, just enough to eat a few bites haphazardly.

After breakfast, Song Lili was completely free. She didn't need to pay New Year's visits; with Song Yongren and Song Jianshe there, she only needed to entertain the people who came to her house.

However, it's the second day of the Lunar New Year, and her father isn't her father-in-law yet, so no one came. I guess only her two uncles are home today, and that's it.

Song Lili's prediction was correct. Around noon, her two uncles arrived together. Just as Song Lili was about to pour them water, her two uncles were about to leave.

The main reason was that Song Yongren wasn't home, and his two uncles didn't want to stay any longer. Song Lili tried to persuade them to stay, but to no avail, and could only helplessly watch them leave while she looked at their clothes.

With the two guests gone, Song Lili finally relaxed completely, since no one was home today anyway.

Suddenly, I felt a strong urge to eat scallion pancakes. Just thinking about the aroma of scallions made my mouth water.

Her eyes sparkled as she stared at Song Fang. "Fangfang, let's make scallion pancakes. I want some." She then licked her lips, looking very hungry.

Song Fang's eyes lit up, because Song Lili always made delicious food, and this time, it was something she had never heard of before, so Song Fang became interested.

She nodded happily, "Okay, I'll help you, sister." With that, she skipped and hopped into the kitchen, seemingly even more eager than Song Lili.

Song Lili followed Song Fang quickly into the kitchen, kneaded the dough, and then instructed Song Fang, "Fangfang, go to the field and pick some scallions."

The most important part of scallion pancakes is the flavor of scallions, so they are indispensable. However, scallions are readily available in our gardens and fields.

Because she didn't plan to sell her vegetables at the town's purchasing station, Song Lili increased the variety of vegetables she grew, but reduced the quantity, just enough for her family to eat, with no surplus.

So she planted all sorts of small things too.

After Song Lili kneaded the dough, Song Fang also came in with a handful of fresh green scallions and washed them conscientiously.

"Fangfang, chop it up, the finer the better. It'll taste even better this way." The aroma of scallions can be quite enticing sometimes.

Song Fang obediently chopped the scallions into small pieces, then tended the fire for Song Lili, all the while eagerly awaiting the scallion pancakes to be ready.

Song Lili first wiped the pan with oil, then poured in a small amount of oil. Once the oil was hot, she put the noodles in, and then added the scallions.

When it was time to flip it over, Song Lili suddenly realized that this was not how scallion pancakes were made. This... seemed to be the way to make multigrain pancakes, and the pan was wrong too.

As you can imagine, this scallion pancake ended in failure.

The second time, Song Lili used the right method, and of course, the scallion pancakes she made were successful.

When the aroma of scallions wafted out, the two sisters couldn't help but sniff. It smelled so good that it made their mouths water and they couldn't stop swallowing.

Song Fang stared intently at Song Lili's movements, as if she wanted to rush over and snatch the object away, then stuff it into her own mouth.

Song Lili found it amusing; it was the first time she had seen Fangfang so flustered, it seemed she was quite the foodie.

However, this kind of younger sister is more popular and more vibrant.

So, she squinted and used a shovel to pick out the best piece and gave it to Fangfang, saying, "Okay, keep an eye on the fire, don't stare at it."

"Here, have this to satisfy your craving, but be careful it's hot," Song Lili said, handing it to Song Fang while reminding her.

Song Fang nodded happily, then eagerly and carefully grabbed the scallion pancake with her hands, slowly blowing on it and putting it into her mouth.

Then, those clear eyes narrowed, like curved willow leaves, a smile that made people happy.

Song Lili was also delighted. Her little sister's expression was so adorable that she wanted to hold her in her arms and rub her cheeks.
