Chapter 471 Should we go up the mountain?

This is why Song Lili still needs Zhang Qinghua to explain these simple things.

"In that case, we should be able to find a lot of good things today, right?" Song Lili asked expectantly.

"Probably." If nothing unexpected happens, we should be able to find some.

Song Lili was even happier. "Then let's find more and have a big meal when we get home. If there's any left over, we can make it into salted meat. It's good to store it or use it for other things. It's good stuff anyway."

Zhang Qinghua nodded, "Okay, whatever you say." Since she's so interested, let's find more.

Zhang Qinghua wanted to carry the basket on his back, but Song Lili refused, saying, "You're looking for something, this will slow you down. I'll do it."

"Besides, you know I'm strong, these things are no problem for me, I can carry them."

If Zhang Qinghua spots his prey, he must give chase; nothing can hinder his speed.

Zhang Qinghua agreed, so he went along with Song Lili. After all, just as she said, this weight was no challenge for her.

He can just carry it back when he gets home.

The two worked together seamlessly and actually found quite a few good things that day.

There were pheasants, rabbits, and even a nest of badgers, which made Song Lili extremely happy.

Badgers are great creatures; not only can you eat their meat, but their fur is also very useful.

She carried a basket of badgers on her back and followed behind Zhang Qinghua, beaming with joy.

There are five badgers in this litter. She has already planned to give one to her family, one to Mu Shaohua and his family, and the rest will be distributed later.

When they got home, Zhang Qingguo stared in astonishment at the sight of the two carrying so many things.

"Brother, where did you go? How did you find so many good things?" Zhang Qingguo asked, pulling aside a layer of wild vegetables from the top of his basket.

“It’s in the woods. It’s springtime now, so these things are easy to find.” Zhang Qinghua put down the things and closed the gate.

This gate was only installed a few years ago after Song Lili strongly insisted on it.

This is where the benefits come in; once the door is closed, nothing can be seen outside, and some unnecessary trouble is avoided.

“You’re right. We’re not going to go hungry here anymore, and I’ve almost forgotten about these things,” Zhang Qingguo nodded.

Even though he was young, he used to go into the deep mountains with his older brother and knew what it was like there.

"Seeing all the things you brought back today, I'm tempted to go inside and take a look. Maybe I can find a lot there too," Zhang Qingguo said, somewhat eager.

Song Lili laughed as she watched. "If you want to go, you can go another day. Anyway, I'm interested in going recently. Do you want to come with me?"

Having someone around can help each other; she alone doesn't have Zhang Qinghua's abilities, nor does she have Zhang Qingguo's.

That just so happens that she had the same idea.

"Sister-in-law, are you serious? You really want to go?" Zhang Qingguo was overjoyed. Now he didn't need to hesitate anymore and decided to go right away.

“Yeah, I figured I don’t have much to do lately, and the work in the fields doesn’t earn many work points, so I’ll just skip it.”

"Why not go to the mountains and look for these? If we find them, we can not only satisfy our cravings, but also exchange them for other things. Why not?"

Song Lili didn't tell anyone about her plans; only Zhang Qinghua had some vague guesses.

So, upon hearing Song Lili's words, he paused for a moment in the water and nodded, "That's good too. Let's go for walks in the woods more often in the days to come."

He needs to go and check on things more often, otherwise he doesn't know what Lili might do.

And so, everyone happily made the decision, and Zhang Shengtian did not object.

Working in the fields is just a waste of time; you don't put in any effort, it's just a waste of time, and you don't even get many work points at the end of the day.

Since the children didn't want to go, he didn't force them.

Anyway, the family can make ends meet, with the help of their private plot of land, so they won't go hungry.

Besides, the children aren't idle; they only find meat. If they take it to the supply and marketing cooperative, they can exchange it for a lot of things. What reason does he have to object?

"You guys decide what to do. But Lili, did Jinwen cook that rabbit? I haven't had rabbit meat in ages."

This meat, it seems, was brought back by Zhang Qinghua several years ago? I can't remember.

"Okay, then let's make braised rabbit tonight and satisfy everyone's cravings," Song Lili agreed crisply.

Whatever her plans are, she has to make sure her family members are fed first; she can't skimp on herself to save money.

Therefore, Song Lili agreed very readily.

"I'll go help." Lin Xue followed Song Lili into the kitchen.

Outside, the three Zhang family members, father and sons, plus two little ones, were dealing with the pheasant and a few badgers.

"Let's kill them all tonight, otherwise it's not good to leave them alive at home, and it's not good if others see them."

Although the restrictions have been relaxed, there are still Red Guards around, and they can't be caught.

"Alright, kill them first. Send one to my father-in-law's family tomorrow, and send one to Lin Xue's family too."

"Then send one to the village entrance, and we'll see how Lili handles the rest," Zhang Qinghua said after thinking for a moment.

Zhang Qinghua and Zhang Shengtian knew about the situation of those elderly people. Although Zhang Qingguo did not know, he would not object to his father and brother's decision.

Upon hearing this, they all nodded and said, "Okay, let's do it your way."

With this arrangement, no one in the family could say anything else.

The three men made their decision and immediately set to work. Little Baozi, with Little Zhe in tow, squatted in front of the pheasant that Song Lili had tied up, looking at it with great curiosity.

"Chick," he said, pointing to the brightly colored pheasant, tilting his head as if wondering why it looked different from the ones he usually saw.

"No, no, chick..." Xiao Zhe was still small and his squatting was a bit unsteady. He wobbled a few times before waving his chubby little hands, pointing to the cage at the front door of the house, and saying indistinctly,

That means, these aren't chicks; the ones in the cage by the door are the chicks.

Zhang Qingguo found it amusing, saying, "This is also a chick, but it's a wild chicken."

You little rascals are quite something, you even know how to recognize chicks.

"Pheasant?" the little boy repeated, staring intently as if trying to memorize the pheasant's appearance.

“Yes, it’s a pheasant.” Zhang Qingguo nodded, in a good mood.

"No, no!" Xiao Zhe panicked upon hearing this, stood up and ran behind Zhang Qingguo. He hugged his neck and shouted, "No, little chicken, no!"

"Ouch, son, are you trying to strangle your old man? Let go right now!" Zhang Qingguo was caught off guard and almost fell over by Xiao Zhe. He quickly steadied himself, called out anxiously, and grabbed Xiao Zhe's chubby little hand.
