Chapter 494 Another New Year

It's perfectly normal for a few vegetables to get trampled; you can tell without even thinking about it. You can't always trust a child's promises; they're still young.

Sure enough, after Song Lili finished picking a row of cucumbers, she looked up and saw Xiao Zhe holding a few tomato vines in his hand.

With a helpless smile, she walked over and said, "Alright, let's go home. Xiao Zhe, take the tomatoes, I'll cook you something delicious when we get home."

There are still two bright red tomatoes hanging on that vine. Let's pick a few eggplants and make some eggplant hot pot when we get home.

She brought the two little kids home, but the rest of the family wasn't back yet. "Xiao Chen, you stay and play with your little brother, don't go out."

"I'll go cook. There are some things you both like to eat." She closed the door in the end, afraid that the two rascals would run out on their own.

"Okay," the little bun said without even lifting his head, squatting on the ground, fiddling with something.

Song Lili went into the kitchen, planning to make spicy eggplant salad, then an egg pancake. She also looked at the cucumbers that had been brought in from outside and decided to make some cucumber salad too; that would be quite nice.

Without hesitation, she rolled up her sleeves and quickly got to work.

In the short time that Song Lili was cooking, everyone had returned to the courtyard.

Zhang Qinghua was the first to return. He pushed the gate and found it locked from the inside, so he climbed over the wall and came in. He saw the two little ones playing in the yard.

The little boy was overjoyed to see Zhang Qinghua. He stood up and ran over to hug his leg, calling out, "Grandpa, Grandpa!"

Zhang Qinghua patted her head and asked, "Where is your mother? Where is she?"

"Mommy, make some more delicious food and let me watch my little brother," the little dumpling said, tilting his head back in a very cute way.

"Okay, then you and your little brother have fun." Zhang Qinghua bounced the little boy around a bit before letting him go to the kitchen.

"You're back?" Song Lili smiled when she saw Zhang Qinghua. "It'll be ready in a bit. Go wash your hands first."

Zhang Qinghua came in, hugged Song Lili from behind, and kissed her cheek, saying, "So soft." Then he went out to wash his hands.

Song Lili rubbed her cheek with her hand before squinting and continuing to make lunch.

Soon, everyone in the family returned, and Song Lili had prepared the meal.

After lunch, Song Lili was so sleepy that she kept yawning, looking like she hadn't woken up properly.

"Are you very sleepy?" Zhang Qinghua asked, his eyes filled with a hint of drowsiness.

Song Lili nodded listlessly, "Yeah, I always feel sleepy, like I haven't slept enough, but I went to bed quite early last night, didn't I?"

Lately, she doesn't know what's wrong with her, she always falls asleep while lying down, as if she can't wake up no matter how much she sleeps.

Zhang Qinghua also knew that Lili was lying down talking last night, but then she stopped talking and he looked and found that she was fast asleep.

Thinking about some recent events, he became very worried. "Is he sick? Should we go see Dr. Wang?"

Dr. Wang was an educated youth assigned to Hongqi Village by Qian Liulin. He was skilled in medicine, so over the years, whenever people had a headache or fever, they would go to him for a checkup.

"No need, I don't feel unwell at all, I'm just a little sleepy, that's all." Song Lili was unwilling to go.

I always have a negative feeling towards doctors and hospitals, and I try to avoid going if I can.

"But there's something clearly wrong with what you're doing."

Zhang Qinghua's worries were no longer hidden and were fully revealed.

"It's just that I'm sleepy..."

"Wait, no way?"

Song Lili suddenly thought of a possibility, and the more she thought about it, the greater the possibility seemed. Could this be... possible?

She was a little confused, but she was still trying to remember when her last period was.

I didn't realize it until I thought about it, and now it seems like a month has already passed.

She held Zhang Qinghua's hand tightly. "Do you remember when was the last time I had my period?"

It was Song Lili who told Zhang Qinghua how to address her as a relative.

"It must have been the beginning of last month," Zhang Qinghua recalled that it was that date.

"But it's already the end of May, and it still hasn't arrived."

The two were stunned, because they had both guessed the same result.

"Is...is this true?" Zhang Qinghua asked excitedly.

"If you look at all these recent events together, the possibility is still quite high, but it could also just be an illusion."

"Then...then let's hurry and go see a doctor." Zhang Qinghua said, and was about to help Song Lili to find Dr. Wang.

"What can the doctor possibly diagnose?" Dr. Wang is a Western medicine doctor, and tests are needed to find out. But the conditions in the village are like this; it's good enough that there are medicines available, let alone tests.

So it's better to see a traditional Chinese medicine doctor; at least they can diagnose you by taking your pulse.

"Then... what should we do?"

Zhang Qinghua was also helpless, because what Song Lili said was true, and there was nothing he could do; these were the current conditions.

"Let's go see Dr. Gao. He's a traditional Chinese medicine doctor, so he should be able to tell the difference."

Last time, it was Dr. Gao who could tell.

"Okay, be careful." Zhang Qinghua carefully supported Song Lili, as if she were a fragile thing that might be bumped or knocked.

Song Lili found it somewhat amusing. "You don't need to be like this. It's not like you have an incurable disease, why are you making such a fuss?"

She had only meant to lighten the mood, but instead, she angered Zhang Qinghua. "What nonsense are you spouting? Why are you cursing yourself?"

"Just be careful." He glared at Song Lili, but continued to carefully support her.

Song Lili touched her nose, then shut up helplessly. Oh well, let him be.

He probably has a trauma from almost losing his child last time, which is why he's being so careful.

Since he's willing, she'll cooperate.

"Qinghua, what's going on?" Zhang Shengtian asked curiously as soon as he left the house.

"Oh, we're going out for a bit. Dad, keep an eye on Xiao Chen, he's asleep." Song Lili stopped Zhang Qinghua from saying anything more, afraid that Zhang Shengtian would be disappointed.

Let's not tell him yet. We can wait until we have a result before telling him.

"Okay, you can go out without worry. I'll take care of the child." Zhang Shengtian nodded, not feeling that anything was wrong.

I couldn't help but think to myself again, "You brat, you treat your wife like the apple of your eye, you even have to hold her while she walks? Why don't you carry her on your back?"

I felt very resentful, but I only thought about it.

After leaving the house, Song Lili and Zhang Qinghua went directly to Dr. Gao's house.

Because of Dr. Wang's presence, Dr. Gao is not as busy as before, and only seeks him out for minor ailments.

So, when he's not busy, Dr. Gao is usually at home. When Song Lili and Zhang Qinghua entered, they saw Dr. Gao sitting in the yard, where some herbs were drying.

Hearing a noise at the door, he looked up and immediately stood up with a smile, "What brings you here? Is there something you need?"
