After the Lunar New Year, almost no one celebrates the Lantern Festival; farmers begin preparing for spring planting.
The men hauled manure into the fields, spreading it out to mix with the soil and increase its fertility.
The women and children picked out all the bad broad beans that had been found in the production team as seeds to increase the germination rate.
And so, everyone got busy.
Song Lili didn't stay idle either; she joined the production team in their work.
After the Lantern Festival, it will be time for sowing. At this time, the production team will go to the town to collect seeds and then distribute them to each brigade.
In Hongqi Village, seeds were distributed to all production brigades by the production team.
Perhaps because of the previous incident of escaping the thief, Yang Weimin felt a deeper connection with the Song family, so he asked Song Jianshe to go with him to get the seeds.
Because of his broken leg, Song Yongren had difficulty moving around, so he asked Song Lili to come along as well.
Song Lili didn't care. She was strong enough that she could carry the seeds back without any problem.
Anyway, there's nothing else to do right now, and her greenhouse hasn't been rebuilt yet, so she has plenty of time.
Following Yang Weimin and Song Jianshe to the stage, each production team leader brought their own people to wait for the village chief, village party secretary, and accountant to arrive.
The captain of the first brigade was Zhang Qinghua's father, Zhang Shengtian, so both Zhang Qinghua and Li Qinghua were present.
Song Lili saw the two people before she even got close, but she didn't greet them. She just smiled and stood behind Yang Weimin to wait.
When Li Qinghua saw the group, he quickly came over to greet them. After all, Yang Weimin was now his future father-in-law, so he had to be polite.
Zhang Qinghua came along too.
"Uncle Weimin, you've come too?" Daqing Li Qinghua said respectfully.
"Qinghua is here too? To help Zhang Shengtian?" Yang Weimin glanced at them and knew why the two were here.
"Yes, I happened to be free, so I came to help out." Li Qinghua nodded quickly.
"Not bad," Yang Weimin nodded, but it was unclear whether he was referring to Li Qinghua or something else.
The two spoke with a distant yet somewhat polite tone, and Zhang Qinghua took the opportunity to stand in front of Song Lili.
"Why are you here too? Can't the Fifth Brigade find anyone?" Otherwise, why would they send a little girl to carry the seeds?
To be honest, Zhang Qinghua was surprised to see Song Lili here, and then anger welled up from the bottom of his heart. He also felt a little dissatisfied with Yang Weimin.
They were unhappy that he had brought Song Lili to collect the seeds. There were so many people in the Fifth Brigade, why did he have to send Song Lili?
They were also dissatisfied with Song Jianshe, who actually brought his younger sister along. Didn't he feel sorry for her? Didn't he know she was young and weak?
Song Lili couldn't help but roll her eyes. Had this guy forgotten how strong she was?
However, this was a secret known only to the two of them, and she wouldn't reveal it. She could only say, "I just came along to see what was going on and join in the fun."
So please don't think I shouldn't have come.
"Really?" Zhang Qinghua was skeptical. He didn't believe that Song Lili would really do nothing for a while.
"Really?" Song Lili said helplessly. Was her reputation really that bad?
Zhang Qinghua was still not quite convinced, but he didn't say anything. He thought to himself that if Song Lili couldn't hold back in a little while, he would help her.
If all else fails, Song Jianshe can be pushed out.
Having made up his mind, Zhang Qinghua stopped talking and stood there waiting for the village party secretary and village director to arrive.
They didn't have to wait long, only about ten minutes, before Luo Weijia and Xu Youcai arrived at the stage in their oxcart, calling for help unloading the cart.
After all the seeds were unloaded, accountant Xu Youcai opened the ledger and prepared to distribute the seeds to each brigade.
Village Party Secretary Li Weiguo also arrived while the truck was being unloaded.
"The same as before, the five brigades will divide the seeds equally. Go back and plant them first. If there aren't enough to live on, we'll exchange them later," Li Weiguo said.
It's the same every year, and everyone has learned from experience, so they have no doubts about the village secretary's statement.
It was only at this time that Song Lili realized that seed distribution was actually like this; she had thought it was some kind of complicated or tedious process.
It's that simple.
Looking at the dozens of sacks lying around, a brigade should be able to get four or five.
These are just wheat seeds; other seeds like broad beans, potatoes, and peas haven't been collected yet.
And these seeds can fill most of the land.
Song Lili didn't understand what was going on here; she had only come along to take a look and help out when needed.
No one needed Xu Youcai to divide the load; everyone volunteered to move it themselves, and Luo Weijia and Li Weiguo also helped.
Luo Weijia was the closest to Song Lili and the others, so it was only natural that the sacks he was carrying were given to the Fifth Brigade.
Song Jianshe took the sack from Luo Weijia, moved behind the group, and went to move the other sacks.
Song Lili didn't intend to help; she just stood in front of the sacks and watched until they were divided, then listened to what Yang Weimin had to do.
Since both Zhang Qinghua and the other two had taken action, they felt embarrassed to stand still.
Song Lili was bored; there was nothing interesting to see while moving sacks, so she just looked around aimlessly.
However, it was still the transition from winter to spring, and nothing had yet come back to life. It was still a dull yellow, and there wasn't much to see.
Song Lili idly placed her hands on the burlap sack and squeezed it. She could feel the grains of wheat even through the sack, each one distinct.
