She lowered her head and shrank back, trying to minimize her contact with the bushes and suffer less pain, but she didn't see Zhang Qinghua exerting force in front of her, leaving red scratches on the back of his hand.
As soon as Song Lili went through, Zhang Qinghua immediately let go, rubbing the back of his hand hard against the clothes a few times, and immediately felt a burning pain.
Then, as if nothing had happened, he picked up the rabbit from the ground and continued to lead the way. Song Lili watched Zhang Qinghua's back with inscrutable eyes, and it took her a long time to catch up.
The road ahead became more difficult, not only because there were many bushes around, but also because the path beneath our feet was much steeper.
Zhang Qinghua grabbed Song Lili's hand directly. Song Lili instinctively tried to shake him off, but Zhang Qinghua held her tightly.
"The road here is difficult to travel. You said you had to listen to me, otherwise I wouldn't dare take you there." He said, looking at Song Lili.
Song Lili struggled, but finally made up her mind. Oh well, this is her future grandfather. There's nothing wrong with a grandfather and granddaughter holding hands. She'll just treat him as family.
However, no matter how Song Lili tried to comfort herself, she always felt a burning sensation in their clasped hands.
It seeps into every pore, seeps in, and begins to boil and surge through the blood, raising the temperature higher and higher.
She moved her hands awkwardly and shrank her neck, trying to pull away, but Zhang Qinghua held her tightly. It wouldn't hurt her, but she couldn't break free.
The two remained silent the entire way, feeling awkward, with Song Lili unsure of what to say to ease the tension.
Zhang Qinghua was so excited that his whole body was trembling, and he was afraid that his voice would also tremble if he opened his mouth.
After walking for about ten more minutes, Zhang Qinghua took off the rope from his waist, tied one end to a bush about the thickness of an arm, and gestured for Song Lili to come over.
"What?" Song Lili looked around. Could this be the secret base he was talking about? What kind of hidden place is this? It'll be discovered soon, won't it?
“If you can’t go any further, you need to follow the rope. Come here, I’ll guide you.” Zhang Qinghua’s eyes and actions revealed his seriousness.
Song Lili was very skeptical. She walked over with a half-believing heart, and only when she got closer did she see that behind Zhang Qinghua was a cliff, which had been hidden by bushes and had not been seen before.
Song Lili was horrified. "You mean we're going to go down the cliff? Are you kidding me?" That's a cliff! One wrong step and you'll be smashed to pieces.
"Yes," Zhang Qinghua nodded. This was an accidental discovery; otherwise, who would willingly jump off a cliff? Would they be courting death?
He risked coming here because his family hadn't eaten for four days, hoping to find some wild vegetables or something, and unexpectedly discovered a small hole.
Song Lili was torn once again: should she go down or not? To be honest, she was quite scared; her legs felt weak.
But... thinking of what she had discovered at home some time ago, she gritted her teeth and stood beside Zhang Qinghua with a heroic air.
Zhang Qinghua was actually nervous, afraid that Song Lili would turn away and leave, but seeing that she had come over despite her fear, she would smile.
Her voice softened unconsciously. "Don't be afraid, just follow me." With that, she lowered herself down the rope and hung in mid-air.
Song Lili took a deep breath and then exhaled heavily. After doing this several times, she was less nervous and slowly grabbed the rope.
"Qinghua, is this rope strong? Will it suddenly break?" Song Lili was still scared and didn't even know what she was saying.
"No, don't worry, I've checked it, the rope is very strong."
"The one that's tied up..."
"I've checked everything. They're all very sturdy and can support the weight of both of us. They won't break. With me here, there's nothing to be afraid of."
Song Lili was speechless. What should she do? Zhang Qinghua had said everything and had no more excuses.
There was no other way but to close my eyes and get to work!
However, looking at the cliff that seemed to have been cut cleanly with a single stroke, she still chickened out. Her legs trembled uncontrollably, as soft as noodles, and she couldn't stand up.
Suddenly, Zhang Qinghua's head popped up from below, looking at her encouragingly, "Don't worry, come down here. Look, I've been up here for so long and I'm fine. I'll catch you from below, don't worry."
Whether it was Zhang Qinghua's encouragement or not, Song Lili was holding onto the rope, half her body was down, and she was hanging in mid-air, but her feet stubbornly refused to leave.
Zhang Qinghua loosened the rope with one hand and was about to climb up to take a look when Song Lili caught a glimpse of him out of the corner of her eye and immediately screamed in fright.
"What are you doing? Hold on tight! Why are you letting go? Do you want to die? Hold on with both hands."
Seeing Song Lili's nervousness, Zhang Qinghua could only grip the rope with both hands, tilt his head back, and speak in a muffled voice, as if coming from inside a jar.
"I just wanted to see what was wrong with you. Are you still scared? Do you need my help?"
"Yes!" Song Lili screamed in her heart, but her reason told her that she couldn't say that. Zhang Qinghua was in great danger, hanging in mid-air at least twenty meters high.
She closed her eyes and said loudly, "No need, I can do it. Just hold on tight, I can manage on my own."
While telling Zhang Qinghua, I was also trying to tell myself, "I can do it."
"Okay, I believe in you, you can do it," Zhang Qinghua said, though there was a hint of heartache in his eyes.
Without further hesitation, Song Lili tentatively lifted one foot off the rope, which suddenly swayed, startling her so much that she immediately gripped it tightly with both hands and pulled her foot back.
Upon seeing this from below, Zhang Qinghua immediately braced himself against the cliff face with his feet to secure the rope, saying, "I'll secure it from below, this time it's alright."
