Did Li Qinghua do something? Did she miss the most exciting part? (Child, you've been wrong all along, okay? Wrong from beginning to end.)
However, reason quickly told her that something was amiss with Yang Mei's words: "Sister Yang Mei, aren't you going to earn work points? I need to go too, right?"
In those days, work points were the means by which a family survived; everyone's food, clothing, shelter, and transportation depended on work points.
Especially during the autumn harvest, it's a race against time. Anyone who can move has to go to the fields and do whatever they can.
Not to mention that Yang Mei is now fifteen years old, which means she is already a young woman and a reliable source of labor.
Even Song Lili, who is thirteen years old but looks only ten, has to go to the fields. Her grandmother had told her all this before.
At this point, Yang Mei laughed even more happily, "Have you forgotten that my brother is an apprentice in the provincial capital? He sends grain coupons and money back home, and my uncle said I don't need to work in the fields to earn work points."
"So, all I have to do is pick up some ears of grain, as long as I'm not idle at home."
Song Lili suddenly realized that after Yang Mei's reminder, she really remembered that she had such a successful great-uncle.
I heard that she became an apprentice at the age of fifteen and stayed in the provincial capital without returning. In her previous life, she only met this great-uncle after graduating from university.
However, some of her great-uncle's children and descendants were arrogant and looked down on poor relatives in the countryside, treating them like beggars, so Song Lili didn't have much interaction with them.
However, this isn't the time to criticize her great-uncle's future; she still admires his actions of sending tickets and money to his family.
Yang Mei has some free time now, but what about her? Song Lili really didn't know, and didn't know what she used to do.
However, Song Fang, who was standing next to her, gave her an answer: "Sister, even if the elder doesn't let you go to the fields, I won't go either. I'll just pick up the ears of grain."
Perhaps she had found her new friend; Song Fang was overjoyed and became much more lively than before, which is why she answered so enthusiastically.
Song Lili felt relieved after hearing this, but she was afraid that she would go to the ground and give herself away.
In the past, when we went to the fields, it was all family members, and no one said anything about how much or how little we did. Now that there are so many people around, I'm afraid of losing face.
Song Lili also forgot that it was only the end of the three years of economic hardship. During those three years, the harvest was almost negligible, and the men had no farm work to do, let alone a half-grown child like her.
Once she was sure she wouldn't have to get out of bed, she immediately agreed, "Okay, Sister Yangmei, you must call me then." She also wanted to test Li Qinghua.
This so-called grandfather died too early; she has no memory of him at all, so she must observe what kind of person he is.
Thinking of this, Song Lili paused. Oh right, how could she have forgotten this? In her previous life, her grandfather was in poor health, and her grandmother said it was because of doing farm work.
Now that she has been reborn into this era and met them, she must make sure they take good care of their health and never let her grandmother be alone for more than twenty years.
Thinking about it this way, Song Lili immediately felt that following their decision was absolutely the right thing to do.
"Alright, it's settled then. I'll come find you then." Li Qinghua smiled happily, his eyes turning into crescent moons, but his smile was very bright.
It was only then that Song Lili noticed Li Qinghua's existence and thought that this boy was not bad. If her grandfather "Li Qinghua" could not pass her test, it seemed like a good idea to match him with her grandmother!
The more she thought about it, the better she felt about the idea, and her mood improved even more.
Yang Mei laughed along, but her laughter was more subtle than Song Lili's, though still attracting attention.
Zhang Qinghua glanced at Song Lili's slightly yellowed teeth, a thought flashed through his mind, and he subtly curved the corners of his mouth into a smile, but it was fleeting.
The group had made an agreement, but then a sudden silence fell, a silence that caught Song Lili completely off guard.
Yang Mei felt even more embarrassed, as she felt that Li Qinghua's gaze remained fixed on her face and never left her.
She felt embarrassed, and the temperature of her face gradually increased, turning as red as a tomato, making her otherwise sallow complexion look much rosier.
Yang Mei felt uneasy, as if she were standing on a needle's point. She could only say that they had something to do, and then she dragged Song Lili, who still wanted to chat, away.
By the time Li Qinghua realized what was happening, he could only see the backs of the four girls. He couldn't help but smile helplessly, feeling a little disappointed at the same time.
Looking at his friend's posture, which resembled that of a woman waiting for her husband, Zhang Qinghua felt he couldn't bear to watch anymore. He couldn't help but feel that the person in front of him was not his friend.
Unable to resist, she slapped Li Qinghua hard on the shoulder to wake him up. "Stop looking. Looking won't bring you back."
"I said, is it really necessary to do that? It feels like a life-or-death separation. Can you please not exaggerate like that?" Zhang Qinghua's face rarely showed any expression.
He couldn't understand it. The two of them would only see each other in a few days, yet they showed such an expression. It was really pretentious!
Li Qinghua was furious, feeling that his friend was like a piece of rotten wood, beyond saving, and couldn't help but roll his eyes at him.
"Hmph, that's because you don't know. You'll know when you find a girl you like." He curled his lip dismissively. "But I think it'll be difficult for you to find a girl you like in this lifetime!"
People who are taciturn and mostly expressionless are not popular with girls because they are too boring.
Li Qinghua was a little worried. Would his friend end up a bachelor for the rest of his life? If all else failed, would he try to find someone to help him?
