Chapter 111

Su Yu writes quickly, and finished the first draft in just one afternoon.

She didn't bother to study Chu Hong's writing style. Everyone has their own writing style, and she didn't want her final work to incorporate Chu Hong's style. That way, even if her superiors thought her writing was good, it still wouldn't be as good as Chu Hong's.

After finishing the first draft, Su Yu carefully rewrote it on special letter paper, making sure the strokes were neat and tidy, using regular script as much as possible. Her aim was to make it easy for the leader to understand at a glance, so they wouldn't have to guess which character she was referring to.

Li Mei watched her finish writing, glanced at it, and said in a low voice, "Su Yu, aside from everything else, your handwriting is much better than Chu Hong's."

Su Yu smiled and said, "I'm just afraid that my draft won't be as good as theirs and will embarrass our secretariat."

"What's there to be afraid of? If it's not good, just rewrite it. Nobody can pass on the first try."

"I'll take it to Deputy Director Liu for his opinion," Su Yu said, getting up and going next door to show the manuscript to Deputy Director Liu.

Deputy Director Liu next door was surprised that Su Yu actually showed him the draft, clearly taking his words to heart.

He looked at it carefully while wearing his glasses.

First, the neat and tidy handwriting caught his eye. After reading the content, Deputy Director Liu felt that the draft was quite mature. It didn't seem to be written by a novice. The writing was very clear and logical, and the line of thought was correct. He had read several of Chu's drafts before, and compared to Su's, there wasn't much of an advantage. The only difference was that Chu's vocabulary was richer than Su's, making it seem more cultured. It was obviously written by a college student.

After reading it, he said, "It's well written, but isn't the content a bit too simplistic?"

Su Yu said, "The participants in this meeting are worker representatives, most of whom haven't read many books, so when writing this, I took that into account and tried to use simple words."

Deputy Director Liu hadn't expected Su Yu to have considered these things when writing the draft. "Hmm, your idea is quite thoughtful. Everything else is fine. Take it to Secretary Shi and get Mayor Chen to review it as soon as possible so we can finalize the draft. If it's not suitable, there's still time to revise it."

"Okay, I'll go right away." Su Yu nodded with a smile.

Before leaving get off work, Su Yu handed the manuscript to Secretary Shi.

Secretary Shi was quite surprised that Su Yu had finished writing so quickly. He had thought Su Yu would have some difficulty. After all, not just anyone could write the drafts requested by the leaders.

Who knew the article would be published so quickly?

He glanced at Su Yu's manuscript and noticed that the handwriting was neat and tidy. However, he felt it wasn't as good as Chu Hong's; Chu Hong's handwriting clearly belonged to a cultured person, unlike Su Yu's meticulous, stroke-by-stroke writing.

That's the difference.

"I'll take it in and show it to Mayor Chen first," Secretary Shi said as he entered Mayor Chen's office with the manuscript.

Mayor Chen has always been a very cautious person, so over the years he has developed a habit of preparing in advance for everything he does. For example, if there is a meeting tomorrow, he will prepare the meeting agenda today. He will also read through his prepared remarks beforehand, just in case he encounters unfamiliar words or sentences he doesn't understand, lest he make a fool of himself.

Upon hearing that Secretary Shi had finished writing the draft, he looked up and said, "So fast! Let me see it."

His eyes lit up at first glance. "These characters... are quite neat. Wasn't written by Chu?"

Seeing the relaxed expression on Mayor Chen's face, Secretary Shi felt uneasy. He forced a smile and said, "No, it's Comrade Su Yu from the Secretariat. I thought that since she came from a working-class background, she would have a deeper understanding of the theme of Ming's memories, so I asked her to write it."

"oh."

Mayor Chen didn't hesitate and continued reading. The content was rich, containing everything that needed to be included, and it read smoothly without any tongue twisters. There wasn't a single unfamiliar word from beginning to end.

The key point is that the handwriting is really neat, unlike Chu's manuscripts, which sometimes he has to read slowly and recognize each character as he reads.

After reading it, Mayor Chen was quite satisfied. A draft should be concise and clear like this.

Secretary Shi said, "If it's not suitable, shall I ask Comrade Chu Hong to write another one?"

Mayor Chen put the draft aside. "No need. This draft is very suitable. We'll use this one tomorrow. Shi, you did a good job this time. You even knew to find the right person to write the draft based on the theme of our meeting."

Secretary Shi: "...Then, shall we use this one? We don't need to write anything for Comrade Chu Hong?"

"No need, this is fine. You can go back to your work." Mayor Chen continued working at his desk.

When Secretary Shi came out of the office, her head was a little hot.

Seeing Su Yu waiting at the door, he even felt a little reluctant to speak.

Seeing that he wasn't holding a draft, Su Yu knew things had gone well. She still deliberately feigned nervousness and asked, "Secretary Shi, Mayor Chen, does my draft need any revisions?"

Secretary Shi forced a smile and said, "No need to change it, Mayor Chen... just use it like this for now."

Su Yu patted her chest. "Oh, this is wonderful! I was worried that I wouldn't write well because I lacked experience." Then she looked at Secretary Shi with gratitude. "Secretary Shi, thank you for giving me this opportunity. If you need anything like this in the future, please come to me again. I promise to write carefully and do my job well."

"..."

Back in the secretariat, Su Yu first reported her situation to Deputy Director Liu.

Knowing that Su Yu's manuscript had been approved, Deputy Director Liu gave Su Yu a proper look once again.

Looks like he's really talented. His first draft for the leader was approved on the first try. No wonder Vice Mayor Qiu was transferred to the secretariat. It seems he didn't get in through connections; he earned it through genuine ability.
