Chapter 116

Because she needed to hand over her work to Secretary Yan, Su Yu also needed to temporarily hand over her work at the Secretariat.

She joined the secretariat relatively late and didn't have much work to do. Her main task was handing over materials for Mayor Chen's drafts.

Su Yu handed everything over to Li Mei.

Although she had a good relationship with everyone in the secretariat, she was closest to Li Mei because of their gender. This was something the secretariat staff tacitly agreed upon.

After a few days, Su Yu had almost finished handing over her work. She then prepared to report to Secretary Hao's office on Monday.

On Saturday evening, Secretary Song intercepted her on her way home from work.

Both of them have been busy lately, and sometimes they don't even have lunch together. Seeing each other now, Su Yu was happy even though she wasn't really there.

Secretary Song smiled and said, "I know you're now in a higher position than me, so I'm here to build a good relationship with you."

Su Yu pouted and said, "My position hasn't changed."

"It's all the same. Anyway, I'll have to curry favor with you from now on. Secretary Su, would you do me the honor of having dinner with me?"

Su Yu glanced at him sideways, her face full of disdain, "Where did you learn these tunes?"

"I recently went to the provincial capital and met a few people from Shanghai. They're very articulate; a single sentence from them carries a completely different meaning," Secretary Song said with a smile. He's always eager to learn, filling in any gaps in his knowledge.

"Alright, then I'll reluctantly have a meal with you."

The two went out to eat together, while Su Dazhi was sent home to report the news.

Hearing Su Yu's arrangement, Secretary Song was overjoyed, finally free from having to deal with that annoying burden.

Upon arriving at the restaurant, Secretary Song ordered a plate of stir-fried vegetables and two bowls of lean pork noodles. Then, she asked the chef to bring out the stew she had previously placed there.

Upon seeing the white, gooey bowl, Su Yu immediately covered her mouth. "What is this?"

"...A tonic. Eating this will be good for you." Secretary Song used a spoon to put the soup into her bowl.

Su Yu tried a bite; it was soft and a bit greasy. Just one bite, and she couldn't eat anymore. "What is it? If you give me something weird to eat, I'll stuff it all in your mouth."

"Pig brain."

Su Yu: "..."

Secretary Song picked up a spoon and put some in her mouth to show Su Yu. "It really works. I don't know if it will be effective, but my mom listens to the older generation. There's always some truth to what they say. Let's give it a try. Actually, I wanted to buy you some milk tablets, but I couldn't find any. Those are good for brain health. You've been studying so hard lately, and the college entrance exam is in a few days. I hope I can give you some last-minute cramming."

Su Yu watched as he actually swallowed it, and she swallowed hard, feeling a little uncomfortable. However, hearing his words, she was somewhat moved.

At this moment, Secretary Song really resembled a parent who was extremely worried about their child's college entrance examination.

She's clearly older than her.

Secretary Song gave her another spoonful, "Just a little bit. This stuff isn't easy to buy. You can't find it in the market; you have to get it from the slaughterhouse. To get it fresh, I ran there before dawn. I stepped in pig's blood."

Hearing this, Su Yu looked down at his feet. "Where's the pig's blood? Let me see? Pig's blood is edible, so don't waste it."

“…I’ve washed everything clean. How could I come to see you dressed all dirty? But my hands still smell a bit bloody. Would you like to smell them?” Secretary Song said, extending her hand for her to smell.

Su Yu pushed it away with disdain, "Fine, I'll eat some."

Then he lowered his head and started pinching his nose to eat the pig brain.

Well, after pinching my nose and taking a few bites, I got used to the taste and it didn't seem so bad after all.

After eating one, Su Yu couldn't eat anymore. Secretary Song then ate the remaining half.

The two then started eating vegetables again.

Su Yu said, "Why haven't you been eating your braised fish and white flour dumplings lately?"

"This restaurant doesn't serve it. If you want to eat it, we'll go to Zhu's restaurant next time."

"No, I thought you were a vegetarian," Su Yu said with a smile, looking down at her food. She had noticed it a long time ago; she didn't know when it started, but whenever they ate together, Secretary Song always seemed to order vegetables. This man was really quite thoughtful.

After finishing their meal, the two didn't get into the car. Instead, they walked and chatted while pushing their cart.

They talked about work-related topics.

"As the first vice mayor, it's possible for Vice Mayor Qiu to succeed Secretary Hao, but it's quite difficult. We've been working hard to get him to take over. If we can't, many tasks will be difficult to carry out. Given Mayor Chen's conservative nature, he might even cut off the construction of staff housing."

Su Yu was certainly aware of this situation. Just like a company boss, the successor always has his own ideas and won't do things the way the previous boss did.

Therefore, sometimes competition is not simply for personal gain, but to ensure that things can be done in one's own way.

Secretary Song sighed, "From now on, I won't be able to see you as often at work. Secretary Hao is quite strict and doesn't like his colleagues getting too close to others. For your sake, I'll be looking for you on the street from now on."

Su Yu's face flushed slightly, but she said with a straight face, "It's okay, I'm not a clingy person. Besides, I'll wait until I pass the exam."

Secretary Song looked at her suspiciously, "...You're not really going back on your word, are you?"

"If you keep buying me those weird things to eat, I think I'll..." It's one thing to appreciate his kindness, but I can't force myself to eat random things.
