Chapter 122

Su Yu felt somewhat annoyed, but not ashamed. As a modern woman, she felt it was normal to have these thoughts. She blamed Secretary Song for being too naive.

It's fortunate that this kind of gay man lives in this era; in the future, he'd have an incredibly hard time finding a girlfriend. Only she wouldn't mind.

Upon arriving at his doorstep, he waved goodbye to Secretary Song without turning back.

Secretary Song scratched his head, wondering if he had done anything wrong. He called out, "I'll pick you up tomorrow morning."

"Okay!" Su Yu replied without turning her head. Her partner was hers to use however she wanted.

Secretary Song smiled.

But remembering Su Yugang and his things, he immediately got on his bicycle and went home, ready to make some plans.

This was indeed an oversight; fortunately, Comrade Su reminded him. Otherwise, the matter wouldn't have been handled perfectly.

For the first two days in a row, Secretary Hao didn't give a definite answer. He also didn't call a meeting. Instead, Mayor Chen brought Secretary Shi to his office to talk to him about something.

However, Su Yu could tell that Secretary Hao seemed rather uninterested.

Secretary Shi was waiting for Mayor Chen outside. When he saw Su Yu come out of Secretary Hao's office, he said, "Secretary Su, you haven't been having dinner with Secretary Song lately. There's really no need to be so careful. After all, you can't hide it from us forever."

"What am I hiding?" Su Yu asked curiously.

Secretary Shi thought this woman had remarkably good mental fortitude; if she were a spy in the past, she might have been a formidable one. He said, "Secretary Su, don't you know Secretary Hao's habit of using Rao?"

Su Yu smiled and said, "I am upright and have a clear conscience."

Then he continued working with his head down, completely unaffected by Secretary Shi.

Secretary Shi pursed his lips as he looked at her. He was warning Secretary Su not to try to use her position to do favors for certain people.

After a while, Mayor Chen came out of his office. Clearly, the conversation hadn't gone well, and his face remained stern. He walked straight out, and Secretary Shi quickly followed.

After watching them leave, Su Yu went into Secretary Hao's office and poured hot water into his teacup.

Secretary Hao sat in his chair and just sighed.

Su Yu didn't ask about any official business, but instead said with concern, "Why don't you take a rest? You've been busy all day and haven't had a chance to relax."

Hearing this, Secretary Hao felt a warmth in his heart. "You're almost retired, you'll have plenty of time to rest in the future. It's actually you who will be busy now."

“You have been busy and dedicated your whole life. There will always be someone to take over and continue to contribute. You are a leader, but you are also an ordinary person, and ordinary people also need to rest.”

"Succession? Who knows if the person who succeeds me will be able to do things according to my ideas?"

“The person you chose must be just like you, so what are you worried about?” Su Yu said.

Secretary Hao seemed to be deep in thought.

He suddenly said, "I heard you were transferred here from Vice Mayor Qiu's side?"

Su Yu said frankly, "Yes, I was fortunate enough to participate in the provincial capital employee housing plan group back then."

"Oh, I remember, it was the textile factory that took the lead. It was you who suggested it back then, Qiu."

"It's all thanks to the trust of the leaders of the textile factory. Without their trust, I wouldn't have been able to get anything done. The establishment of the task force in our city is also thanks to Secretary Hao and Mayor Qiu."

"So, do you think Mayor Qiu is better, or Mayor Chen?" Secretary Hao asked with a gentle smile.

Su Yu smiled and said, "It's not appropriate for me to ask you that. As you know, Mayor Qiu introduced me to this position, and I don't know Mayor Chen very well. If you were to ask me, I would definitely have some subjective opinions."

Her honesty made her seem quite open and honest.

Secretary Hao's smile faded, replaced by a serious expression. "You're right. I shouldn't have asked you. Go on with your work."

"Okay," Su Yu said with a smile, and walked out of the office.

She breathed a sigh of relief as soon as she left the office.

She truly lives up to her position; her words are like a battle cry. She must have heard something from Mayor Chen, so she came to test her. Luckily, she has a strong enough mentality.

The second Deputy Mayor Qiu arrived with Secretary Song.

Secretary Song, holding some documents, followed Vice Mayor Qiu into the office.

After pouring them water, Su Yu obediently went out.

Then I checked the time.

If they had come out in just a few minutes, the whole thing would have been off. Fortunately, the two of them stayed inside for an hour.

When she came out, Vice Mayor Qiu had a slight smile on her face. Secretary Song nodded to her, but didn't even look at her.

As Su Yu went in to pour water, Secretary Hao said again, "Su, if you were an ordinary citizen, wouldn't you want to do things the way Song did last time?"

“I know Secretary Song, and I’m worried that if I come out, it might be influenced by my own biases.”

"Then just pretend you don't know me."

"Then I have to thank the organization for letting me have an extra bite to eat. Isn't that what we ordinary people all about—having enough to eat?"

Secretary Hao looked at her seriously and said, "Su, you are much bolder than Yan. He wouldn't dare say a word in front of me."

"I wouldn't dare, but if I were in the position of an ordinary citizen, I'd dare to do anything. We ordinary people, what are we to each other?"

Secretary Hao thought Su Yu's words were right. As ordinary people, of course they have their own ideas and beliefs. If ordinary people dare not do anything, what kind of people would they become?

Perhaps it was because he was about to retire, or perhaps it was because Su had played the role of an ordinary person and talked to him last time, which he found novel, so he also wanted to find someone to chat with, to talk about whatever it was like.
