Secretary Lin would certainly not agree to Song Dongzheng actually punishing those people. These people had just come to him, and then Song Dongzheng punished them. He, as the secretary, would really lose all his authority.
"It's not a big deal. After all, the people below are just grumbling. We also need to learn to listen to different opinions."
Director Jin of the County Public Security Bureau said, "County Chief Song, I think Secretary Lin makes a lot of sense. We can't punish cadres for every little thing."
Director Liu of the Agriculture Bureau said, "We're busy with spring planting now, so let's not make the people below feel anxious."
After the two finished speaking, they looked at the others, hoping that they would also speak up.
However, the others hesitated and did not speak.
Undeniably, the newly arrived County Head Song's assertive style has begun to sway their morale. So young, and just like his wife back home, he'll definitely be staying in the county for a long time. With such a domineering personality, if Secretary Lin retires, it'll be a piece of cake for him to deal with whoever he wants.
Didn't you see that even Secretary Lin has been forced to retreat by the counterattack?
Seeing that no one else spoke, Director Jin and Director Liu both regretted their actions. Secretary Lin, seeing this, turned red with anger.
A bunch of traitors!
Song Dongzheng said earnestly, "I have listened to everyone's opinions. At present, it is indeed not appropriate to punish people on a large scale. I suggest that we punish one or two bad apples. This way, it will not affect the spring planting work, and it will also serve as a negative example for others."
Seeing that Secretary Lin was about to speak, Song Dongzheng said, "Secretary Lin wouldn't disagree, would he? If punishing one or two people affects the work below, wouldn't that make us leaders seem useless? Would we have to eat hairy pork without Zhang the butcher?"
"..."
Director Chen of the Education Bureau, holding a pen, smiled and said, "County Chief Song's words make sense. I agree that the bad apples should be punished. Otherwise, everyone will follow suit, and we can't keep holding large meetings about this kind of thing."
Everyone else stared at him in surprise when they saw that Director Chen of the Education Bureau, who usually didn't get involved, was openly helping the county head.
Secretary Lin also stared at him with pursed lips.
Director Chen, however, remained calm. He had already been instructed by Secretary Hao to support Song Dongzheng. Now that Song Dongzheng had demonstrated his abilities and strength, he naturally had to take sides completely.
No one else objected, nor did anyone agree, and Secretary Lin remained silent. Song Dongzheng gained supporters again, and the matter was considered settled.
Soon, Song Dongzheng issued a disciplinary notice directly in the name of the county party committee, punishing two of the commune secretaries. Although it was only a major demerit, without demotion or anything like that, these two would never have the opportunity for promotion again.
After all, there are plenty of competitors, and opportunities are unlikely to be given to someone with a serious record.
This silenced the other commune secretaries who were still planning to cause trouble.
They realized that Secretary Lin couldn't protect them.
Although County Chief Song wouldn't punish everyone at once, who knew that if things continued to escalate, they might be the ones punished instead? Nobody wanted to be the one to stick their neck out.
"They've finally all behaved themselves."
In the county office, Song Dongzheng breathed a sigh of relief.
Luo Wei made him some tea. "Boss, please take a good rest. You've been working hard lately."
“It’s time to rest,” Song Dongzheng said while sipping his tea. “If it weren’t for needing a few days off, I wouldn’t be in such a hurry.”
He hadn't seen Comrade Su for almost two months. But he couldn't leave without resolving the issues in the county. Now, he could finally go back to the city to report on his work.
"Luo, I'll be going back in a couple of days. I'll be back before May Day. Keep an eye on things in the county. If anything happens, call the city. Remember the numbers I gave you?"
“I’ve got it,” Luo Wei said.
At Jiangdong University, Su Yu had already completed her new semester's courses. She then asked her professors if she could take the exams ahead of schedule.
This was something the professors had all agreed on beforehand. Furthermore, the professors weren't surprised that Su Yu had completed the next semester's courses so quickly.
This student truly proved how hard she could endure. Her performance in class was excellent, and after class she was practically never idle; whenever she encountered a teacher, she would bring out prepared questions to ask.
Because of these things, the professors knew how much she had studied in private. Without putting in so much hard work, she wouldn't have been able to compile so many problems.
Several professors each prepared their own test papers to assess Su Yu's learning progress.
On Sunday, everyone else had the day off, but Su Yu was taking an exam in the classroom.
The exam lasted from morning until afternoon.
After the exam, she walked out of the school feeling completely relaxed. She was quite confident about the exam; she had indeed put a lot of effort into her courses this semester to gain the full support of her professors. If she did well on this exam, the professors would have even more confidence in her ability to graduate early.
She was just about to ride her bike home when she noticed an extra bicycle next to hers.
There was a red rope tied to the bicycle.
Su Yu raised an eyebrow. She seemed to have only ever seen one person do this before.
She pretended not to see it, walked over, and prepared to leave with her bike.
Sure enough, before she even got in the car, someone ran out from behind the flowerbed and grabbed the front of her car. The person looked a little aggrieved. "It's only been a short time, and you don't recognize my car?"
Su Yu smiled, pursing her lips. "I recognized the car, but since I didn't see the person, I assumed the owner didn't want to see me. So I wasn't in the way."
