Remember [67♂] in one second, thank you everyone for your support. Her family's idea is to come to her husband's older sister's house and talk to her then. Anyway, as long as Dazhi and she are on the same page, it'll be easy to handle. They'll just scare her older sister a little. If they don't separate the family, she'll go back to her parents' house and leave Dazhi to live alone. Given how much her older sister cares for Dazhi and his family, she definitely won't be able to handle it.
As for where they would go after the family division, and the arrangements for her husband's older sister and younger sister, she wasn't worried. Her older sister could live in the factory's single dormitory, and her husband and younger sister could live in the school dormitory. In the future, her older sister would marry into a family, and her husband and younger sister could also live in the single dormitory provided by their workplaces.
Liu Mei didn't think she was heartless. She was fed up with the feeling of a large family crammed into one house. She had finally gotten married and no longer had her in-laws to weigh her down. Of course, she had to find a way to make her future life better and give her children a better living environment.
Does having children mean you'll make them suffer too?
As soon as she got home, she saw Su Dazhi and Su Lin sitting in chairs with their eyes closed. The house was dark and quiet.
"Why aren't the lights on? Where's the older sister?"
"My eldest sister is sick," Su Dazhi said in a muffled voice.
Liu Mei asked in surprise, "How could you get sick? You were perfectly fine before!"
"She collapsed from exhaustion and malnutrition." Su Dazhi felt even more distressed thinking of Su Yu in the hospital. "Liu Mei, why are you only coming back now?"
"I went to my parents' house," Liu Mei said, putting down the newspaper and turning on the electric lamp. Her older sister paid the electricity bill, so she wasn't particularly reluctant to part with it.
Hearing Liu Mei's words, Su Dazhi felt a pang of sadness. He rubbed his flat stomach, which was rumbling with hunger, and said, "Have you eaten? Lin and I haven't eaten either."
"Why haven't you eaten yet?" Liu Mei asked in surprise. "I ate at home. I thought you guys had already eaten."
Su Dazhi's eyes immediately welled up with tears.
He was still hungry, while Liu Mei had already eaten her fill. She only just returned. Even if you had money and tickets, all the restaurants outside were closed.
"I'm so hungry, brother," Su Lin said weakly from hunger.
She regretted it. She'd never torture herself again, and she'd never have to starve herself to spite someone again. It was all self-inflicted suffering.
Su Dazhi got up and walked out.
"Hey, where are you going?"
Liu Mei looked at her husband with a puzzled expression. She felt that something was wrong with the situation at home. Why had her sister-in-law suddenly fallen ill, and her husband was acting strangely too?
"Go get the keys from my older sister," Su Dazhi said without turning his head. He was incredibly frustrated.
Bai had boasted to his older sister, and now he was asking her for food.
As he walked, tears slowly welled up in his eyes.
My older sister is right, I really am a coward.
Inside the hospital, Su Yu and Su Zhi had just eaten meat buns, which they bought from a state-run restaurant. They had used Su Zhi's savings.
Su Yu felt that lying in the hospital, she needed someone to take care of her. She hadn't trained that girl yet, so she wasn't counting on her for now.
The older one is still in a daze, and she really can't stand her cowardly behavior. It's Su Zhi, this immature teenager, who's barely managing to take care of her. So that afternoon, she asked Yan Fang to inform Su Zhi that his older sister was hospitalized.
In the past, Su Zhi probably wouldn't have been this enthusiastic. However, after Su Yu's words that morning, and the fact that they had eaten alone together, Su Zhi felt that he and Su Yu were on the same side. Plus, Su Yu promised to find him a job, so upon hearing the news, he immediately came running over.
Especially after Su Yu's tearful performance, he obediently took out his savings, bought meat buns, and then bought porridge in the hospital cafeteria. The two of them enjoyed a delicious meal together.
After finishing her meal, Su Yu sighed, "Zhi, this is the first time in years that I've eaten so well. I miss our parents. When they were alive, we could occasionally have a good meal together. After they passed away, I couldn't bear to eat anything good. I just wanted you to eat more."
Su Zhi wiped his mouth. "Sister, don't worry, after I start working, we'll eat meat buns."
"Whether you eat meat buns or not doesn't matter. I just hope I can be discharged from the hospital soon. You're all grown up now. I'm going to earn more money to help you get married."
Su Zhi's face immediately turned red.
Su Yu said, "Don't worry about anything. Your older brother came to the hospital today. He saw that I was exhausted and probably had a change of heart. He promised me that he would let me manage his money from now on. I know what he's thinking. He feels ashamed to use my money to get married. He's a man now and cares about his reputation. After all, relying on a woman is not right. Anyway, with him sharing the burden, I can take better care of you."
"I don't need you, sister. I'll earn my own money to get married."
Su Zhi immediately replied. He was also a man who cared about his reputation!
Su Yu smiled slightly, "What nonsense are you talking about? You're my own brother. We're the closest people in the world. Of course, I'll take care of you wholeheartedly. Besides, I don't expect you to save money. Boys can't save money. Your older brother has been trying to save money all these years, but he hasn't saved a single penny. In any family, the woman in charge needs to manage the money to keep it. If Mom were here, she could manage the money for you. Fortunately, your older brother is sensible now and is planning to let me manage the money. I will definitely save it for him carefully from now on."
"Sis, from now on, you can save my money for me."
Su Zhi blurted it out, then immediately regretted it. If he gave the money to his sister, how would he live? But seeing his sister's touched expression, he suddenly felt that giving the money to her to save wasn't such a bad thing after all. He was a man, after all. How could he be worse than his older brother? He wasn't going to be like his brother, so cowardly under his sister-in-law's thumb.
