Chapter 51

Early Monday morning, Su Yu and Chairman Sun arrived at the factory early, and the two entered the office at almost the same time.

Cheng Li was wiping the table, and Gao Ming was making tea. The two of them looked like they were working hard without complaint.

Chairman Sun was in high spirits over the happy occasion and praised them directly, saying, "The two new comrades are doing a very good job."

Su Yu sat down in her chair, picked up her teacup, and said, "Yes, they've been working very hard ever since they arrived. Young people have a lot of drive."

Chairman Sun also took a sip of tea and said with a smile, "You all work hard, the union has a lot of room for development in the future."

The two young men immediately blushed with excitement, their eyes shining.

Officer Su was absolutely right; working hard is definitely the best way to get ahead.

Chairman Sun and Su Yu quietly drank their tea, their minds still processing their emotions. After finishing their tea, they both looked refreshed.

Chairman Sun stood up. "Su, let's go."

"Okay." Su Yu stood up as well, picked up her notebook, and left.

The two left one after the other, acting mysteriously, as if trying to attract attention. Anyone with eyes could see they were going to do something important.

Cheng Li said enviously, "Chairman Sun really trusts Secretary Su a lot."

Gao Ming said, "I heard that Secretary Su has only been with the union for a little over two months."

"You're really capable."

When Su Yu arrived at the factory committee with Chairman Sun, she once again received a high-level "reception".

Factory Director Gao has been quite smug lately. Although he's lost out in his competition with the labor union, he still enjoys considerable prestige in public.

While other factories are struggling to find enough grain, his factory is just waiting for a steady stream of grain to be delivered.

To solve one's own problems without relying on government relief supplies—what a huge achievement! One could laugh out loud just walking down the street.

However, after Chairman Sun threw him the house-building plan, his smile vanished.

"..."

Chairman Sun said, "Old Gao, I'm doing this for the factory's sake. I've already reported it to the city, and the leaders there support me. Now, with our union taking the lead and your assistance, we'll get this done."

Factory Director Gao nearly coughed up blood. Such a serious matter, and the labor union reported it directly to the city without even consulting them?

"Old Sun, why didn't you discuss this with me?"

Chairman Sun took a sip of tea. "You're all busy with the grain exchange, so I won't trouble you further. Su and I have discussed it at length, and the plan is excellent. There's nothing for you to worry about. Just have your finance department coordinate the disbursement. Following my plan, the factory won't need much money." (Isn't discussing this with you just letting you reap the benefits?)

Factory Director Gao knew, of course, that it didn't cost much, but he still felt a pang of heartache.

Building houses, such a big thing, and the labor union is taking the lead!

How embarrassing! So embarrassing!

How is he supposed to fight the labor union now? They're the ones who get the food, they're the ones who build the houses. What standing does he have left to compete with them?

Chairman Sun, seeing his humiliated expression, almost burst out laughing.

Once this building is built, who in the factory will not speak well of him? No matter which union chairman comes after, they will never surpass him.

He might even be able to go even further!

"So, Lao Gao, what's your opinion? The city leaders are already urging us to implement it as soon as possible and achieve results, which can also serve as a reference for other brother units."

Su Yu also smiled and said, "Let me chime in too. I think this is a historically significant event for our Jiangdong Textile Factory. Anyone who tries to do what we do in the future will need to know the reputation of our Jiangdong Textile Factory, and also the names of Chairman Sun and Director Gao."

Since things had come to this point, even though Director Gao was unhappy, he couldn't refuse.

After all, the city leaders have agreed.

Moreover, Su is absolutely right. From a broader perspective, if this matter is successfully resolved, it will be a great benefit to the entire textile factory.

"Alright, I'll call a meeting right away and finalize this."

Chairman Sun smiled and said, "Su, go next door and tell our comrades to go to the conference room for a meeting."

Half an hour later, all the factory's management cadres, including workshop directors, as well as those from the labor union and logistics department, gathered together in the conference room.

Some people didn't even have a place to sit and had to stand.

The meeting room was buzzing with discussion as everyone talked about what they were going to do this time.

Since Chairman Sun was in charge of this matter, Director Gao didn't want to steal his thunder, so he invited Chairman Sun to the stage to preside over the meeting at the beginning.

Chairman Sun, beaming with pride, held his project plan and looked at all the management cadres in the conference room, his face flushed with excitement. "Comrades, I have gathered you all here today to discuss a very important matter: the plan for our Jiangdong Textile Factory to build its first batch of employee housing!"

A moment of silence fell over the conference room after those words. A few seconds later, the room erupted into chaos again.

"Quiet down, quiet down. Let me finish explaining our house-building plan first. Whether the houses can be built, and how many to build, depends on everyone's performance."

The crowd immediately fell silent; no one dared to delay such an important matter.
