It was almost dark when Liu Mei returned from outside, still smiling.
She had been extremely worried about the division of the family property these past few days. Seeing that the Su family seemed to be facing some difficulties, she simply went to discuss it with her own family.
Her family's idea is to come to her husband's older sister's house and talk to her when the time comes. Anyway, as long as Dazhi and she are on the same page, things will be easier; they can just scare her older sister a little. Liu Mei asked in surprise, "How could you get sick? You were perfectly fine before!"
"She collapsed from exhaustion and malnutrition." Su Dazhi felt even more distressed thinking of Su Yu in the hospital. "Liu Mei, why are you only coming back now?"
"I went to my parents' house," Liu Mei said, putting down the newspaper and turning on the electric lamp. Her older sister paid the electricity bill, so she wasn't particularly reluctant to part with it.
Hearing Liu Mei's words, Su Dazhi felt a pang of sadness. He rubbed his flat stomach, which was rumbling with hunger, and said, "Have you eaten? Lin and I haven't eaten either."
"Why haven't you eaten yet?" Liu Mei asked in surprise. "I ate at home. I thought you guys had already eaten."
Su Dazhi's eyes immediately welled up with tears.
He was still hungry, while Liu Mei had already eaten her fill. She only just returned. Even if you had money and tickets, all the restaurants outside were closed.
"I'm so hungry, brother," Su Lin said weakly from hunger.
She regretted it. She'd never torture herself again, and she'd never have to starve herself to spite someone again. It was all self-inflicted suffering.
Su Dazhi got up and walked out.
"Hey, where are you going?"
Liu Mei looked at her husband with a puzzled expression. She felt that something was wrong with the situation at home. Why had her sister-in-law suddenly fallen ill, and her husband was acting strangely too?
"Go get the keys from my older sister," Su Dazhi said without turning his head. He was incredibly frustrated.
Bai had boasted to his older sister, and now he was asking her for food.
As he walked, tears slowly welled up in his eyes.

Inside the hospital, Su Yu and Su Zhi had just eaten meat buns, which they bought from a state-run restaurant. They had used Su Zhi's savings.
Su Yu felt that lying in the hospital, she needed someone to take care of her. She hadn't trained that girl yet, so she wasn't counting on her for now.
The older one is still in a daze, and she really can't stand her cowardly behavior. It's Su Zhi, this immature teenager, who's barely managing to take care of her. So that afternoon, she asked Yan Fang to inform Su Zhi that his older sister was hospitalized.
In the past, Su Zhi probably wouldn't have been this enthusiastic. Su Yu said, "Don't worry about anything. Your older brother came to the hospital today. He saw that I was exhausted and probably had a change of heart.
