Chapter 84

"Oh, Secretary Song is here too," Secretary Gao greeted with a smile.

Secretary Song smiled and said, "I knew you were here, so I came to see you."

After directing everyone to set up the beds, Su Yu also ran out. Seeing Secretary Song arrive, she greeted her warmly, "Secretary Song, welcome, welcome! I was just thinking of inviting you to dinner."

"Ahem, I didn't come here for a meal. I came to see Gao and Zhou."

Su Yu said, "Oh, then you two have a good chat."

"Never mind, let's get to work." Secretary Song walked into the room with his hands behind his back, then saw the wood scattered all over the floor and asked in surprise, "What are you doing with all this?"

"This wood smells nice; it'll make the house smell good," Su Yu said with a smile.

Secretary Song chuckled. "Who are you trying to fool? Back in the base area, I'd had my share of dealings with landlords and wealthy people; I'd seen plenty of this kind of wood. Those traitors had plenty of furniture made of this kind of wood in their homes. How could the things in those houses be of poor quality?"

So you like this style.

“Come on, Zhou, let’s help Comrade Su move this fragrant wood to her room so she can smell its fragrance.”

Secretary Zhou quickly came over to help, and the two of them moved the pile of planks and wood together.

Secretary Su quickly led the way, muttering, "I can't accept this. It's such a hassle."

Su Yu's room was the largest and sunniest in the house. Nothing was set up yet, and the bed wasn't even made.

Secretary Song glanced at the room; it was only slightly larger than her own. She immediately felt a pang of sadness.

He felt it was necessary for him to fight for the house.

Secretary Gao looked around the house and laughed, "Secretary Su, all you're missing is a large wardrobe."

Su Yu said, "This stuff is hard to buy."

Secretary Song said, "Of course they're hard to buy. These are wedding supplies; people buy them for their weddings."

Secretary Gao: "..."

Su Yu glanced at him and said, "Secretary Song, you must have a wardrobe at home, right? Your clothes are so neat."

"Of course, Ying," Secretary Song immediately replied.

Su Yu smiled and said, "Secretary Song, have you been preparing for the wedding for a long time?"

"..."

Su Yu laughed and said, "Just kidding, just kidding. What I meant was that I also want to use the wardrobe in advance, since I'll need it sooner or later anyway. But these things are really hard to buy; they're all pre-ordered in the market."

Secretary Gao chuckled and said, "Well, if we can't buy a new one, a used one will do. We'll have the driver see if he can buy a used one when he goes on a business trip to another place."

Secretary Song, with his hands behind his back, said, "What's so useful about the old stuff?"

"I don't mind. We working people are the most simple and unpretentious. Secretary Gao, could you help me find one if you have the chance?" Maybe you can even find an antique.

Secretary Gao smiled and said, "Okay, I'll help you bring one when I have the chance."

Secretary Song walked out of the room with his hands in his pockets. He didn't want to talk to this woman anymore. He was even planning to ask someone to make a call for her. Never mind!

After everyone finished moving, Su Yu prepared to take them out for a meal. However, since they weren't familiar with each other, Liu Mei's brother and sister-in-law were even more hesitant to join them when they heard that the municipal party committee secretary was there. So Su Yu told Liu Mei to take Da Zhizhi and the Liu family to the meal, while she led Secretary Song and the others.

After Su Yu and the others left, Liu Mei said, "Where should we eat? Let's just cook at home. We just moved, so let's save money, Lin, right?"

Su Lin: "..." She didn't want to cook!

Outside, Secretary Song patted his pockets, looking at Secretary Zhou and Secretary Gao with disdain. Those two bastards, really! They wouldn't go to dinner before, but now they're here again. Hypocritical!

This time we didn't go to the Oriental Hotel; it's too far. We found a small state-run restaurant nearby. Secretary Song's white flour dumplings and braised fish were all sold out. So we just ordered a plate of braised pork, a plate of cabbage, a bowl of egg drop soup, and a few bowls of white rice.

This meal was considered quite good by others.

Su Yu smiled and said, "Secretary Song, I'm really sorry, we really don't have any supplies here." It wasn't that she was deliberately upsetting anyone.

Secretary Song ate white rice while picking at braised pork, saying, "There's nothing to be embarrassed about. I'm not that picky about food; I'll eat whatever's available." He's very easy to please, you know.

After he finished speaking, he called to Secretary Zhou and Secretary Gao, "Eat up, eat quickly. Aren't you working this afternoon?"

The two of them ate their rice without any hesitation.

The meal was quickly finished, and Secretary Zhou and Secretary Gao went to work. Su Yu said, "Secretary Song, I'm going back too. There are still some things at home that I haven't finished tidying up."

Secretary Song said seriously, "No need to rush, there's something I need to tell you."

"What's up?"

"A friend gave me two movie tickets, and I've been thinking of going since I'm bored. But I can't find anyone to go with. Since you're practically a friend, I was thinking of asking you to come along. Are you free tomorrow night?"

Su Yu was taken aback when she heard this. Why did those words sound so familiar? It was as if she had heard them somewhere before.

And more than once.
