The municipal party committee canteen was quite crowded. Besides the office workers, there were also some family members of the municipal party committee members. They didn't want to cook at home, so they came here to get food.
When Sanran arrived at the cafeteria, there was already a queue.
Secretary Song immediately took Su Yu's lunchbox, saying, "Comrade Su, please go and sit down. I'll go queue up; I know them well."
Su Yu looked around. "This isn't a good idea."
Zhu Gaoxin said, "Secretary Song is familiar with those chefs, so they give him a lot of food when he goes there." Then she said to Secretary Song, "Secretary Song, could you bring me a portion? Sister Su and I will go find a place to chat." Finally, they could eat a little more.
Secretary Song glanced at her lunchbox, then held it up in her hand. "Sorry, I only have two hands. Zhu, you'll have plenty to eat and wear yourself."
Zhu: "..."
Su Yu raised an eyebrow, secretly amused. "So realistic."
She smiled and took the lunchbox from Secretary Song's hand. "Let's go together. There's no rush. Besides, I'll be eating here more than once. I'll be coming here often in the future. How can I trouble Secretary Song so often? It's not a good look."
Zhu asked, "What negative impact?"
Su Yu: "..."
Secretary Song pursed her lips. "What are you asking? Go get your food. I usually don't see you at mealtimes, but it's quite lively today."
Zhu: "..." I just wanted to join in the fun, what did I do to deserve this?
As soon as the three of them went to queue up, Secretary Shi at the next window saw Secretary Song. He was someone who worked for Mayor Chen and had been there for several years. He was more senior than Secretary Song, but he lacked any formal education.
Upon seeing Secretary Song, he said with a half-smile, "Secretary Song, it's rare to see you here. I rarely see you eating here; you're always having dinner parties."
Secretary Song laughed and said, "I'm popular, there's nothing I can do about it. How about I have someone treat you to a few meals next time, so your teeth don't get sore."
Secretary Shi's face stiffened slightly, his brows furrowed, and he smiled, "Forget it, I can't eat all that good food. The common people are still starving, while you seem to be eating quite well."
Secretary Song laughed and said, "Look at what you're saying, carrying this food, that doesn't sound very convincing."
Secretary Shi felt an itch in his chest from anger.
Seeing that he was unhappy, Secretary Song laughed it off, "Just kidding, just kidding, don't take it seriously."
"Hey Shi, time to eat. After you eat, go out and do some walking around the area. The common people are useless here," an auntie from the Municipal Women's Federation shouted.
I don't like people who talk big; they talk a lot and eat a lot too.
Secretary Shi took the lunchbox and left.
The women's federation auntie pulled Secretary Song aside for a chat, "Song, you didn't come home for dinner? It's been a while since I've seen you. How's your mother?"
"My mom is fine, everything is fine. I've been so busy with work lately, I've been neglecting my meals and sleep."
Director Xiao looked at him with concern, "Take good care of yourself."
Then, looking at Zhu and Su Yu, she asked, "Is that woman behind you unfamiliar? Is she new to the municipal party committee?"
Secretary Song introduced, "Oh, this is Consultant Su, the consultant our group invited." Then she said to Su Yu, "This is Director Xiao from the Municipal Women's Federation."
"Hello, Director Xiao!" Su Yu greeted her with a smile. Leaders these days are quite approachable. Otherwise, you'd think she was just an ordinary housewife.
Director Xiao said, "These women are remarkable; they are so capable at such a young age. Now women have finally stood up."
Secretary Song nodded, "He's standing up," then glanced at Su Yu, "He's practically standing taller than the men."
Su Yu smiled.
Director Xiao looked at Su Yu carefully. She was dressed neatly, her eyebrows were groomed, and her face was clean and fair. He said, "Su, judging from your appearance, you're not married yet, are you?"
Su Yu looked at herself. "How did you know?" Her outfit was perfectly normal. She'd seen several female colleagues from the municipal party committee dressed like this; it wasn't out of line at all. She'd even noticed some of them wearing lipstick.
Director Xiao seemed very experienced. "I can tell from how neatly you're dressed. Married women don't have time to take care of themselves. It's not easy being a woman. Once you're married, your life revolves around your family. You have to work, take care of your husband, and raise your children. It's not easy at all."
Secretary Song's face grew increasingly dark. "Director Xiao, that's a generalization. Look at my mother..." His mother was the absolute authority at home.
"Your mother works hard too. Doesn't she have to take care of you two when she comes home?"
Secretary Song: "..."
Su Yu wholeheartedly agreed, "In that case, women really have it tough. It gets even tougher after marriage."
Secretary Song wiped her face.
A few more people moved forward in the group. After they walked a bit further, Director Xiao started chatting again, "By the way, Su, I have a few suitable men in my contacts. I'll introduce them to you later. How about you take a look?"
Secretary Song said, "Director Xiao, it's not good that you just got married."
"But you have to be selective. The people I find are all hardworking, they've grown up working hard, they're from impeccable backgrounds, and they can do everything. Our Women's Federation is here to protect the rights of women, how could we possibly choose the wrong people?"
Secretary Song pursed her lips. "I'm still single. Why didn't you show any concern for me?"
Director Xiao's face twisted in disbelief. "What are you saying... If you don't even let your mother manage things, why should I manage your affairs?"
Su Yu and Zhu secretly laughed behind them.
The more Director Xiao looked at Su Yu, the more he liked her. She was handsome and had a dignified air about her, without being overtly seductive. Instead, she had a dashing and heroic feel to her.
"Su, what do you think about us?"
Su Yu smiled and said, "Director Xiao, you're too kind to me. But I've been busy with work and studies lately, so I don't have the energy to think about these things right now. Once I'm done with my work and have some ideas, I'll take the initiative to bother you."
