Chapter 64

Su Yu silently looked at Secretary Song.

She had already imagined 108 different ways to whip him and began to do so.

He smiled understandingly. "I know you're very busy, Secretary Song, in the dead of winter. How could I possibly disturb your work? By the way, Secretary Song, are you coming to the municipal government again tomorrow?"

Does Ming still want to come?

Secretary Song raised an eyebrow, looking smug, and said, "No, I want to take a holiday to celebrate the great New Year's Day."

"So, Secretary Song, you're not working tomorrow? Then let's go out for lunch. Since you're not working, you might as well have some free time. After lunch, we can go get the bicycles. Isn't that convenient, Secretary Song? That way, we won't interfere with your work," Su Yu said expectantly.

Secretary Song looked troubled. "...This dinner might not have a big impact, I actually rarely go out to eat with people."

"Secretary Song, you're a cadre, you need to follow the mass line. Besides, as the saying goes, 'reciprocity is key,' and we should repay kindness with gratitude. You've helped me so much, I must repay you, this meal is a must. Otherwise, I'd be taking advantage of you, Secretary Song. The organization forbids taking even a needle or thread from the people, and even though I'm a probationary Party member, I must abide by that rule."

"..."

Looking at Su Yu's mouth that kept opening and closing, Secretary Song had only one thought: to stuff it shut with a shoe!

He said blankly, "Alright, let's go eat tomorrow. But Comrade Su, don't wear that outfit to dinner tomorrow, it hurts people's eyes. The people are working hard right now, and it's not appropriate for you to be dressed like that."

"..." Su Yu touched her hat and said with a smile, "Secretary Song, my family is poor, so I didn't have a choice. To be honest, this yarn was left to me by my parents, and they've been reluctant to use it all these years."

Secretary Song drank the water in the enamel mug in one gulp, the words "Serve the People" on the mug standing out prominently.

He felt that if he didn't finish the water, the anger in his heart wouldn't subside.

Chairman Sun walked out of the union office with a big smile on his face.

Seeing Secretary Song and Su Yu talking, he came over with a smile, "Secretary Song is here too."

Secretary Song glanced at Chairman Sun, "Comrade Shuchun, are you here today to give a summary?"

"Yes, it's the end of the year, so we have to report on our work." Thinking of the good relationship between Su Yu and Secretary Song, she added, "I must say, Su's side prepared everything very well. Comrade Su is truly remarkable; she's capable and meticulous."

Secretary Song immediately squinted at Su Yu.

Su Yu: "...This is just my job."

Secretary Song smiled and said to Chairman Sun, "I still have work to do, so I won't keep you company any longer. I'll be leaving now."

He turned and left.

Su Yu said, "Secretary Song, you must keep your word. Remember our agreement."

Secretary Song waved his hand without turning his head.

Chairman Sun asked, "What did you and Secretary Song agree to?"

Su Yu said without changing her expression, "Isn't it because I'm not working tomorrow? I have some work-related issues that I need Secretary Song to help me with."

"Oh..." Chairman Sun looked like he understood.

Seeing his expression, Su Yu knew that the old leader had misunderstood. She wondered what the leader was thinking, always watching his subordinates and causing trouble.

"Chairman Sun, it's really nothing. Secretary Song and I were just having a meal together, along with other people."

"Oh," Chairman Sun nodded.

By the time they got back to the factory, it was almost time to leave work. The other union members were quite envious of Su Yu for going with Chairman Sun to do the work summary.

Committee Member Hu asked Yan Fang to invite Su Yu to the union office so that he could find out if their union also needed to prepare a work summary for Chairman Sun.

Su Yu said, "As long as it doesn't affect my work, I think it's a good idea to make a summary."

Committee members Hu and Zhang understood what she meant. So they both prepared to write work summaries.

Su Yu also personally guided them on how to write it better.

She was Chairman Sun's right-hand woman, and now she was practically his confidante. Therefore, Committee Members Hu and Zhang trusted her implicitly. They planned to write exactly what Su Yu wrote.

Su Yu didn't finish her story until after get off work, and then she prepared to go back to her office to pack her things and go home.

As soon as I stepped out of the union office, Officer Lin chased after me.

Su Yu noticed that Officer Lin looked even worse than before. He used to be averse to interacting with people, but now he seemed to be being ostracized.

Lin, the clerk, looked pale. "Su, you've been doing quite well lately, following Chairman Sun around."

"Yes, that's all thanks to Chairman Sun's guidance and trust," Su Yu said with emotion.

Lin, the clerk, looked distressed. "Su, I'm actually quite regretful now. Why didn't I insist a little more back then? If I had, things wouldn't be like this now."

Su Yu looked surprised. "Officer Lin, what's wrong? You're perfectly fine now."

"What? The work you left me was gradually taken back by Committee Member Zhang and the others and given to Yan Fang. I'm just doing odd jobs now."

Su Yu immediately disagreed. "Don't talk nonsense! What do you mean by 'odd jobs'? Every job is honorable and has great significance,"

“I know, but I really feel like I’m not as good as I used to be. Su, can you help me? Look, Chairman Sun is giving a lecture to the workers right now, and someone has to coordinate things in the class. Cheng Li and Gao Ming are so young and inexperienced, they definitely won’t be able to do the job well.”
