Back in her office, Su Yu deliberately took the documents to deliver to Secretary Hao.
"You're back from Mayor Chen's place?"
"Just got back." Su Yu smiled and placed the documents on his desk.
Secretary Hao asked casually, "Is there something wrong? Is there a mistake in your work?"
Su Yu quickly shook her head, "No, no, he just asked me a few questions."
Questioning? Secretary Hao was already feeling uneasy. What could they possibly ask the people around him?
"What did you ask?"
"..." Su Yu hesitated, wondering whether she should or should not.
Secretary Hao said sternly, "Speak your mind directly. Party members must act with integrity and uprightness."
"They were asking me what my thoughts were on the proposals that Vice Mayor Qiu and his team had put forward earlier."
Upon hearing this, Secretary Hao frowned. What was there to ask? It was all already decided; what other thoughts could he possibly have? He probably wanted to glean something else from this question, like who he planned to recommend.
Su Yu continued, "I didn't do anything. I thought that if I said this, people outside would definitely misunderstand and think it was your idea, so I didn't do anything. I had no idea."
Hearing Su Yu's words, Secretary Hao felt a little irritated. Wasn't the reason he asked the people around him to find out what Su Yu meant?
What are they trying to do? Are they trying to control his thoughts?
Secretary Hao slammed his pen on the table, clearly looking angry.
Su Yu looked worried. "Please don't be angry. I don't have anything. You asked me before, and I didn't have anything either, let alone anyone else."
"I'm not angry with you. Did you return anything else?"
"That's all, just some words of encouragement from Chairman Chen."
Secretary Hao nodded, "Okay, then you can go out and get back to work. If anything similar happens again, just let me know."
"Okay." Su Yu quickly replied, then turned and went out.
...
After getting off work in the afternoon, Su Yu had just gotten into Su Dazhi's car and left the compound not far when Secretary Shi stopped her.
"Comrade Su Yu, were those words you said to my leader today intentional?"
Su Yu got out of the car and said with a smile, "Please don't say that. What I said was all true, just praising Comrade Chu Hong. By the way, I haven't been to the Secretariat in a long time. How is Comrade Chu Hong?"
"..." Secretary Shi's face darkened. "I advise you not to think that just because you have a good relationship with Secretary Song, you can act with impunity. In terms of rank, I am higher than you."
"Yes, I've always known you're the leader." Su Yu nodded earnestly.
Secretary Shi felt like he had punched cotton.
Su Yu looked at him and said, "Secretary Shi, there are some truths I need to tell you."
"Your abilities are really not up to par. You can't compare to Secretary Yan in terms of ability. In terms of education, you can't compare to Secretary Song, or even your sister-in-law Chu Hong. Do you really think you have the confidence to become the future secretary?"
Secretary Shi's face was grim.
"The truth is never pleasant to hear, but don't be angry. After all, not everyone is as honest as me. At your age, you're still not thinking about being transferred to a lower-level position, and you're still working as a secretary. What's the point? If Secretary Yan is smart, she's already thirty, and she'd be transferred directly. Before she turns forty, we'd see her results. Secretary Shi, how old are you?"
Secretary Shi: "...What's your purpose in doing all this?"
"What motive could I possibly have? I'm about to go to university; I can't take your place. I'm just trying to avoid being watched like this. I just want things to be good for everyone, right?"
After Su Yu finished speaking, she waved her hand and said, "Never mind, I'm going back to eat first. Secretary Shi, you can think about what I said yourself. You can't be smarter than Secretary Yan, can you?"
Then he got on the bicycle and told Su Dazhi to ride away quickly.
Secretary Shi's mind was in turmoil, and she felt somewhat lost.
When he finally remembered that he had gone to see Su Yu to warn her to behave herself in the future, he found out that it wasn't over yet, but instead, he got a beating from Su Yu.
"..."
In Shanghai, Secretary Song stayed there for five days before finally getting the matter done.
After finishing their business, the comrades in Shanghai took Secretary Song around, saying, "Comrade Dongzheng, if you have the chance to come here sometime, look how lively it is! You can buy anything here."
Secretary Song said with a smile, "I can buy anything, except for the money."
"You're being modest. Look at what you've bought, you've bought quite a lot," the comrade who was strolling around with you said with a smile.
“It’s a rare opportunity to get out of town, so I brought some gifts for my parents and my partner. I can’t afford to buy anything for myself. We’re all tightening our belts right now, and we’re counting on you guys to give us hope.”
Men who love their families always earn respect and admiration from others.
The comrade who was with him laughed and said, "Oh, Comrade Dongzheng, you're such a good comrade. But were those mushrooms you had with that person really a rare variety?"
"Yes, it is indeed a rare species in our Jiangdong Province. It is very precious. Especially after it is dried, it weighs almost nothing."
"I hear it all over the mountains."
“Mushrooms come in different varieties, and yours is a different variety. We’ll need to ask a botanist to help us identify it. We’re international friends, after all; we need to be scientific. We’ll also find pharmacologists to go into the mountains with us to find medicinal products. These are all important human resources.” The old farmers in the countryside are all botanists and pharmacologists.
